This is my favorite Sarah era. The alternative arrangements and delivery were refreshing and still play beautifully today. This disappeared later in her career as too often happens. She can still sing incredibly but I love the early stuff best.
music is for the young...she has 4 amazing songs...her voice is perfect, she was super hot in a Jewish/Scottish hybrid way...but, writers should be old...but music is connected with sex so after 30 things get less virile...and I can't think of one female act from the 90's that was anywhere as hip and timeless as early Madonna or Cyndie Lauper...GAGA was not inspired by the Lilith Fair.
I would love a chance to see her whatever she sings. Regrettably I think this is unlikely now. However, this performance is monumentally brilliant. I can watch it over and over again. Everyone is amazing. Love and peace.
I don't know why you think it unlikely to see Sarah play live. I am going to see her next week, and doing the entire Fumbling album from start to finish. My fav record!! I am swooning with the thought@@jamesbarrett1583
This was filmed at the theatre just down the street from me here in Montreal. Before this album came out, not even sure it was finished. I think she was still working on the album. It was summer, and there was some summer activities going on at a park here. Sarah did a small concert outside at the park. Just her and her guitar. The was no charge. Anyone could sit and watch. She was sitting on a stool. Us the audience were sitting on the grass. She was known then of course, but she was not yet HUGELY popular yet. She was very approachable. After the show my friend and I were hanging out a bit. As we were leaving the park. Sarah was sitting all by herself against a tree, no one with her, or around her, she was playing her guitar and singing to herself. Wish I had of had a camera then. Great day.
All the fear has left me now I'm not frightened anymore It's my heart that pounds beneath my flesh It's my mouth that pushes out this breath And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it I won't fear love And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it I won't fear love Companion to our demons They will dance and we will play With chairs, candles, and cloth Making darkness in the day It will be easy to look in or out Upstream or down without a thought And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it I won't fear love And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it I won't fear love Peace in the struggle To find peace Comfort on the way To comfort And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it I won't fear love And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it I won't fear love I won't fear love I won't fear love And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it I won't fear love And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it I won't fear love I won't fear love I won't fear love And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it I won't fear love
I saw her several times in the 90s, three times before Surfacing was released. Those were the best shows she did. She, the band, and the music had so much passion. It's often overlooked, but the audience also had more passion than after Surfacing. Everyone knew and loved every song. First show I saw her on the Surfacing tour, some people started leaving after the three radio songs had been played.

Miles O'Neal me too, love her early work, really speaks to me
Yeah, agreed, when she wasn't trying too hard to 'perform' with glitz, glamour, make-up, etc.. And before she got fat (and cut her hair short again).

I was at this show with my then girlfriend and some other friends. You could hear us scream out "We love you Sarah" at 0:10.
When an angel sings about real love ❤️🌹❤️
I LOVE THIS SONG it makes me high. Provokes my nostalgia.
All the fear has left me now
I'm not frightened anymore
It's my heart that pounds beneath my flesh
It's my mouth that pushes out this breath
And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it
I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it
I won't fear love
Companion to our demons
They will dance and we will play
With chairs, candles, and cloth
Making darkness in the day
It will be easy to look in or out
Upstream or down without a thought
And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it
I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it
I won't fear love
Peace in the struggle
To find peace
Comfort on the way
To comfort
And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it
I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it
I won't fear love
I won't fear love
I won't fear love
And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it
I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage, I won't deny it
I won't fear love
I won't fear love
I won't fear love
And if I shed a tear, I won't cage it
I won't fear love

Insane! They missed the best songs!!
The bass sounds great on this track. It is a kind of beating heart for the whole song.
