Hello Harry, thanks for Your positive feedback and Your question. The big port / opening on the front side is connected to the air bags inside the cartridge. Inside the printer there is an air pump mechanism that connects to that opening on the cartridge - during the printing cycle of that cartridge that air pump tries to press air into the bag inside the cartridge. By measuring the amount of air that goes into the bag the printer can calculate how much ink is left inside the cartridge. At the beginning of a cartridge´s life cycle the air bags are free from air and are fully flat. We also point out to remove the air from these bags before refilling such a cartridge and taping these ports when the refill is done by applying negative pressure to the ink chamber. The background information to these cartridge are quite a lot... 😊
Thanks for the positive feedback ! We really would like to have an answer to Your question. As we do not have a suitable refill ink available yet we were not able to conduct proper testing. We are on it but do not know when the results will be ready.
thanks for the reply.. We have need for same tool. If i send you a picture of the 972 with dimensions, would you maybe see if we can use same technique.. Our business is chip / cartridge resets, but we need partners on hardware / refilling..
You mentioned the opening in the middle of the front and that it is connected to this white piece. What is that good for? Otherwise great video!

Great video, great tool. Will this work on cart 972, for HP Pagewide? It does look quite similar.
