I should point out Link is considered as a light Heavyweight. I have no clue what the technical name would be but in Mario Kart 7 there was a class known as Cruiser. Which was a lighter heavyweight. Mario Kart 8 does not have a sub-name in each class but I assure you Link's the lightest in the heavyweight class along with Rosalina and King Boo. He actually controls well in my opinion.

As does everyone outside of the E3 build. As for Bikes they turn super sharp so i love bakes in Doughnut Plains. I can drift the turns without going off the track. I also main Metal Mario.
Transformed has an achivement for getting every Sonic character (excluding Metal) in the top 6... in a friend match thats do-able but online with randoms thats a roulette of luck.
I know what you're talking about with the rival system, Johnny. In Super Mario Kart, the racer was specific to your character, but in 64, they were chosen at complete random. I really hated that system because some tracks like Choco Mountain give the AI an unfair advantage, where the jumps at the end of the course don't slow them down like yours do.
And now we move on to the banana cup, with the following selection of returning favorites: Dry Dry Desert, as opposed to a wet wet desert Donut Plains 3, because Donut Plains 1 and 2 didn't get the memo Royal Raceway, it seems even raceways have a monarchy DK Jungle... which I've got nothing for And ending at the battle at Lunar Colony, so the Mushroom Kingdom has achieved space-flight, yet still can't do anything about a turtle in a airship.
If there is a rival system, then in DS, i swear that R.O.B when the AI controls him is just meant to suck. But, yeah, it is consistent with who is on top and who sucks in a grand prix.
