I had this game for the Dreamcast. I thought it was perfection then. Then i played Underground and realized "Wow it can get better". Loved seeing this trip down memory lane. I skated for several years and this game captured the skating culture perfectly. Love this series.
This was another awesome part to the History of Tony Hawk😁. My brother has told me so many stories of his childhood of how he and my cousins used to play the ever living hell out of this game back then, and how it was a quintessential part of their lives, since they were skaters too and they loved how incredible this was to play, especially with the new features and them. Hearing from them, and now after this video, I can see why. Really hope to try these 2 games one day, especially the remaster that combined both classics into 1 game, but also the OGs as well whenever I can. Thanks for another banger, Ian, I hope you and all the DanDans have a lovely weekend, stay safe, and I love you all. Peace✌️😊❤️
THPS2 was a game that introduced me with the franchise back in mid 2001 & I never looked back. & Spider-Man being playable is just an icing on the cake. Without a doubt, 1 of the greatest games ever made.
Yet another phenomenal job here, Ian! Love the infectious enthusiasm, and if you love the Tony Hawk games this much, then you definitely owe it to yourself to grab an Xbox and THPS2X. It's simply one of the best ways to experience the first two games. :)
Part 1. Part 2. Both of these videos have been perfect and so well delivered. I sincerely cannot wait for part 3 to drop, probably my favorite in the series.
My friend and I discovered the first Tony Hawk game through a demo disc he had. Popped it in, fell in love, played it over and over. Like a month later I picked up the actual game and I think we only waited a few months before THPS2 came out. It was an exciting few months. lol. Also, about the internet, yeah my family got a computer and the internet in like 1998. I knew plenty of people into 2000 who still didn’t have internet at home. Also, despite having the internet, I’m pretty sure I learned about THPS2 from GamePro magazine.
I can not wait to see the thps 3 video Also ya know, I really appreciate you man it's really sick to see another person, hell other PEOPLE it seems in the community, who grew up with wrestling, mortal Kombat, GTA, and tony hawk being so influential in our lives. Like yeah those are super popular i.p's but it's almost like a bonding thing over the internet to know other people grew up living the same things. Much love and respect my man
I have more childhood memories of THPS1 because I played it with my stepdad (one of the few games he was eager to play with me), so I can understand having an attachment to the original game. Having said that, I got the remakes of THPS1 and 2 for PS4 back in 2020, and I am instantly reminded of playing the Hanger in THPS2 with my son, and trying to be the first one to grind the helicopter. It's all a matter of perspective, and sometimes memories are more important that improvements in graphics or game mechanics.
Spider-Man as a playable character is always welcome in anything haha. As a guy who never played these games, I love seeing this series and learning all about it. Skate Heaven having Little Machines playing would be fun for sure haha. Great video man! *EDIT* seeing the graphic and hearing about the upcoming GM Showdown season 3 was what I needed today hahaha
I played the hell out of THPS 2x. The extra levels were creative and unique. The biggest advantage it had over its psx brother was custom soundtracks, since the xbox could rip cds, lots of games took advantage of this and it was wonderful
Oh sweet nostalgia, this video was awesome, Six! Pro Skater 2 was easily in my top 10 favorite video games of all time until it was ousted by three later entries in the series. First, it was overtaken by Pro Skater 2X, then by Underground 2, and finally the spot went to '1+2: Remastered'. Over the years, Underground 2 would go on to return to the top of the mountain where it has stayed ever since. Now then, I could do an entire video on just Pro Skater 2X. It is more than it appears. Not only does it have everything from the original Pro Skater 2, and not only does it have what could arguably be considered some of the first DLC content with the 2X Levels and accompanying campaign - it also has everything from the very first game remastered in the same quality as its sequel. I still own my copy of this, and I still play it from time to time. When your ranking video comes, I'll share where these titles fall for me, and yes I do count 2X as its own game for the purposes of that list.
My favorite running joke started in this game. Every game that has a create-a-park has the park Montana. Which is an empty lot with a kicker plant with a tree in the middle. And that's the entire park
Ahh the days of Game Informer, Official PlayStation Magazine and Electronic Gaming Monthly all having demo disks. Had a huuuge collection of them since I was young and money was tight. Honestly some of the best times were getting Dominos and playing the SpiderMan demo with the radio on in the background
Thank you Ian. So many memories.... my brother would steal the controller from me and put on 2xtreme or cool boarders. When Tony Hawk 1 came out, we finally had something we both enjoyed playing. Right when we got home from school, put it on 2 players and play a few rounds of HORSE. He would naturally get upset when I beat him and turn on Baywatch or Pacific Blue lol
I don't know how Rodney Mullen didn't get his own skateboarding video game. The way he skated he looked like he was pulling stuff from the THPS games themselves. Also, THPS music helped me get through grueling workdays at Amazon.
The hours i spend with this game was legendary man! Thank you for bringing us this nostalgia trip my dude💯 #ThanksForWhatYouDo #WeAreTheDanDans #MuchLove #TonyHawkProSkater2
Another fantastic video, man. I would make the point that the warehouse and hanger being similar added some continuity to both installments but I see the other side of that point as well. Still, PS1 Spiderman was fantastic, and his inclusion here was my favorite part of the numbered entries. Keep up the good work, brother.
My favorite Tony Hawk game ever! Ty man and keep the great stuff coming please. I would actually keep restarting the level I was on to get Ace of Spades by Motörhead to play. Awesome game and thanks again Ian!
Pro Skater 2 is always gonna be MY Pro Skater soundtrack, cuz it was the first one I played. I remember begging my friend's dad with my friend to go to mcdonalds so we could eat mcdonalds and play this on the little n64 display they had in the playplace.
Once again you deliverd Ian. The last Friday Epsiode was a little to long for my liking because it was only negative. I like you honesty and your opinions a lot and this Tony Hawk Epsiode was no exception. I confused the starting levels of Pro Skater 1 and 2 so your point is just facts. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to more great videos and storys about our favorite past times.
I am with you on preferring the original. I think it’s largely due to it being the first time I’d had a gaming experience like that. And also the soundtrack was all new to me as well. The THPS2 soundtrack had some unfamiliar stuff but had a lot stuff I was listening to outside the game. But I did discover Lagwagon from THPS2, so there’s that. The GBA port is also worth a mention, I remember seeing the screenshots for it from E3 and it just blowing my mind that graphics like that could be on a handheld. I saved up all summer to get a GBA and THPS2 on launch day and was absolutely thrilled with how good it was.
Spiderman in this game was the highest reward anyone could get after finishing the game!! It was a time without trophies or achievements. Just pure grinding (literally) and unlocks ! What a time to be a gamer !
I remember trying to go back to the first game after playing the sequels and how insanely frustrating it was... due to the simple fact that by that point, my muscle memory refused to remember that you couldn't do manuals in the first game. No matter how many times I would bail, my brain kept expecting to be able to manual lol Eventually I just chose to believe that the first game was simply an unfinished janky prototype. Sort of like how I viewed Twisted Metal 1 & 2.
I almost got fired from my job to play this game with mates 1 Friday night in 2001. Totally worth it to, 4 of us gamed all night, hit up the towns pubs, it was a most awesome weekend, all kicked off with THPS2 splitscreen 😁
speaking of CRAZY and sequel, they should have made Skate Jam ( sequel to space slam) and the Looney tunes skateboarded with Tony hawk and others, that would have been a fun film and great game. but, they had no idea. as for Tony Hawk's 2, AWESOME follow up.
Lo and behold, it's the return of the Radical Cool Skater Boy Birdman! Hawk's back with new technology! Bow down to our new Cyborg Overlord! All Hail Neversoft! All Hail Robo-Hawk!
Man I love your series rock Ian! Been watching you since the original WCW wrestling Vids. Would love to see you do a video on Gun now that we're looking at Neversoft
Hell yeah dude. Loved this game. Played the hell out of THPS until this game released. Then we played the hell out of the sequel haha. Also that remake from a few years ago was just perfect.
If you've got a hankering for an innovative skateboarding game, pick up a VR headset and VR Skater...it's got a steep learning curve but very rewarding. There's even a song called "THPS2"
My all time favourite Tony Hawk game is Tony Hawk's Underground. I know you're only covering the Pro Skater titles in this History Of series. But I hope you'll do retrospectives on the other Tony Hawk games as well. Underground is the best game out of all of them in my books. I played the shit out of that one.
Bro when I tell you THPS2 was my Jam I mean this shit was my JAM…. My cousin owned the First Game but I bought the Second Game, man the times I had playing it! Then playing as Spider-Man from my 2 Favorite Spidey Games on PS1! Kids today just don’t know what they have now with internet the way it is… And cell phones when they’re 7-8. Let me tell you I was lucky just to get a PS1 for my 10th birthday. Then we didn’t have internet till around 2000 America Online the worst Dial-Up service out there the COMPAQ computer we had was slow as a Snail… But it was cool for PC Games from Cartoon Network’s website… to me this was Peak Tony Hawk!
I appreciate your opinion on favorites Ian, like for me, I can say HCTP is a better game perhaps, but SYM is probably my favorite of the SmackDown games. As far as THPS goes 3 and 4 are a toss up due to nostalgia. THUG because of the story topples all though ✌️
I grew up playing the N64 version, that one doesn't have the chopper drop level, no videos, no Mat Hoffman demo (as someone said, the port does have the 1st level of MH Pro BMX) and only snippets of some songs of the soundtrack but has everything else and does look better in the N64 if the expansion pak is used Eventually I also had the original Xbox one and it is pretty cool too
thank you my good sir for letting these kids know how it was, I'm 38 the first time I remember caring about the internet was diablo 1 and I learned the hard way what happens when someone picked up the phone off the receiver to let me know my time was up was a harsh reality 💯🤣🤣😁
Fun facts about THPS2 ports: The N64 port contains the opening level from Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX. The Dreamcast version is a slightly better version of the ps1 version and Private Carrera was swapped for an original punk chick skater. THPS2X let you swap the soundtrack for the one you had put on the internal hard drive, and it also let you have LAN parties.
I'll admit that I completely forgot about the first episode of this series until I saw this one was uploaded I had the first episode in my watch later list so I watched the first one just to get caught up on the series before it got too far along lol
@616Entertainment I just kept telling myself I wanna watch it even tho I'm not much into skateboarding I wanted to see the history of such an iconic series
Never thought I'd here the mention of FinKL in this channel lol. I was a huge Kpop fan back in the late 90's before it ever became a thing in America. Had the biggest crush on the lead singer Hyori. She's still hot today "how you doin'?" lol
Funny how much less tony seemed to care about quality as the series went on 😁 but you cannot blame the dude he isn't a developer after all so I totally get it...but the first few of these games are bangers and that remaster the released a year or two ago was wonderful
Yea he only has so much say. It's weird that another company can own the name 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater' and do whatever they want with it, while Tony Hawk himself has to just be like "oh okay."
Definitely true. I grew up the same no internet. We did have an old ass computer with a minesweeper and jeopardy on it, but yeah, kids, it's true great video
Newly subbed to the patreon! Now time to watch all that Halloween goodness Again!! (For the 100th time) But this time will all the blood guts and gore I can ask for ❤
Does anyone remember the name of that brand of hoodie the characters wearing around 11:20? I've been trying to remember it for YEARS now and just can't lmao
One of my most favorite moments in this entry that surprised me was when I unlocked Spider-Man as a playable character.
Still crazy to me all these years later that one of the greatest video games ever made is a skateboarding video game. What a time it was to be alive.
I had this game for the Dreamcast. I thought it was perfection then. Then i played Underground and realized "Wow it can get better". Loved seeing this trip down memory lane. I skated for several years and this game captured the skating culture perfectly. Love this series.

Rad Rat cameo made me smile. That dude used to be so niche, and I’m so glad to see him becoming more and more popular 🤘
Fax
"Theres a place where everyone can be happy" sums up this game nicely.
Guerrilla Radio is nothing but awesome in THPS2.
Part 1.
Part 2.
Both of these videos have been perfect and so well delivered. I sincerely cannot wait for part 3 to drop, probably my favorite in the series.

Not sure about other versions, but the Dreamcast port had a DOUBLE moon physics cheat that made the game absolutely insane.
You ain’t lying.. demo disks were soooooooo sick!
Holy Shit. Demo Discs. Totally forgot about those. Talk about a blast from the past.
THPS4 is my fav in the series and an all time fav game of mine in general. I would argue its about as flawless as a game can be.
This is the entry in the series I spent the most time with. School 2 was my favorite place to skate and I’ve got so many great memories here.
A friend couldn't wallride properly but could glitch through the floor and walls in the School level to just be floating in undeveloped space
I played the hell out of THPS 2x. The extra levels were creative and unique. The biggest advantage it had over its psx brother was custom soundtracks, since the xbox could rip cds, lots of games took advantage of this and it was wonderful
Great vid. I still remember the first time i played the THPS2 demo, it changed my teen years completely.
Haha I forgot how awesome Powerman 5000 was
I remember killing it with the manuals!!!! Combo after combo
16:00
Same here I was into Dave Mirra too. R.I.P. to Dave. 💐
Oh sweet nostalgia, this video was awesome, Six! Pro Skater 2 was easily in my top 10 favorite video games of all time until it was ousted by three later entries in the series. I played this one so much it was definitely my favorite. Amazing at the time it came out

I like the original THPS too. For me it's the impact of never playing a skating game like that. When I played the 2nd I mean i knew what to expect
Thank you Ian. So many memories.... my brother would steal the controller from me and put on 2xtreme or cool boarders. When Tony Hawk 1 came out, we finally had something we both enjoyed playing. Great vid!! Can't wait for the Friday finale drop!
This game put me on to so much great music and it’s one of my all time favorite games ever
That Jampack disc was legendary
Another fantastic video, man. I would make the point that the warehouse and hanger being similar added some continuity to both installments but I see the other side of that point as well. Love it! Good to see another 616
Much more to come!
Thsp 2, no mercy, smackdown know your role and banjo tooie all came out within 2 months of each other. What an amazing time for gaming
Rodney Mullen is the manual king. It's amazing how Rodney does his tricks by grinding the board upward than the usual spot on the board to grind.
I DO have something to say…
Glad I found this channel last year. Jesus. Christ.
Pro Skater 2 is always gonna be MY Pro Skater soundtrack, cuz it was the first one I played. I remember begging my friend's dad with my friend to go to mcdonalds so we could eat mcdonalds and play this on the little n64 display they had in the playplace.

I’m so glad you mentioned Matt Hoffman. Rodney Mullen, Dave Mirra, they were goats. THPS 1 & 2 made it all happen.
Legends, man
Spiderman in this game was the highest reward anyone could get after finishing the game!! It was a time without trophies or achievements. Just pure grinding (literally) and unlocks ! What a time to be a gamer !
I played THPS 2 and 3 like crazy back in the day. The first one was good, but these games blew it out of the water.
The video game commercials around the '90s were something. ❤
I remember trying to go back to the first game after playing the sequels and how insanely frustrating it was... due to the simple fact that by that point, my muscle memory refused to remember that you couldn't do manuals in the first game. No matter how many times I would bail, my brain kept expecting to be able to manual lol
Eventually I just chose to believe that the first game was simply an unfinished janky prototype. Sort of like how I viewed Twisted Metal 1 & 2.
You could create custom Playlists on Xbox by using the music you download on the hard drive. Added to the original soundtrack it was super dope
School #2 is my favorite level remember hitting a dark side on the picknic table
I had the Dreamcast version, so it was a huge step up from THPS1 on PSX for me. I still think 3 and 4 are the best of the series though.
💯 agree with everything uou said also bam is one of my all time fav skaters too all his shows and movies are my childhood
I played the shit out of the Mat Hoffman's BMX demo that came with one of the THPS games.
THPS2 was my first Tony Hawk game. Man, when Rage Against The Machine starts to play, it is go time.
Soooooo goooooood
I almost got fired from my job to play this game with mates 1 Friday night in 2001. Totally worth it to, 4 of us gamed all night, hit up the towns pubs, it was a most awesome weekend, all kicked off with THPS2 splitscreen 😁
I actually got to play it for the first time with a demo of the PC version. It played just as well and competently as the PlayStation version.
Lola Vice for my skating heaven 😍🤤
Yes. And, YES.
@@TheMCMLXXXVII She's so fire 😍🔥
speaking of CRAZY and sequel, they should have made Skate Jam ( sequel to space slam) and the Looney tunes skateboarded with Tony hawk and others, that would have been a fun film and great game. but, they had no idea. as for Tony Hawk's 2, AWESOME follow up.
Lo and behold, it's the return of the Radical Cool Skater Boy Birdman!
Hawk's back with new technology!
Bow down to our new Cyborg Overlord!
All Hail Neversoft!
All Hail Robo-Hawk!
Enjoyed playing this matt Hoffman and Dave mirra bmx games
Oh man! THPS3 is next! Probably my most played game of all-time!!!
Many hours spent playing custom levels with friends. I still feel like the DC version is the best.
You gotta do the whole tony hawk series
Man I love your series rock Ian! Been watching you since the original WCW wrestling Vids. Would love to see you do a video on Gun now that we're looking at Neversoft
I love Tony Hawk's pro. Secutor especially the first 2.🔥🔥🔥
Hell yeah dude. Loved this game. Played the hell out of THPS until this game released. Then we played the hell out of the sequel haha.
Also that remake from a few years ago was just perfect.
Thank you for this video!!!!!!
In those days, a magazine that came with a demo disk was an insta-buy for me. I had the TH2 one!
Absolutely
I had that Jampack demo disc! Played the hell out of the THPS2 demo. lol
Hell yea!
I have the secret tape as a tattoo (1+2 version)
S tier franchise
S tier series just getting started and I love it
Ps rad rat is awesome and glad i saw him in this for the hidden k pop bit
If you've got a hankering for an innovative skateboarding game, pick up a VR headset and VR Skater...it's got a steep learning curve but very rewarding. There's even a song called "THPS2"
I’m not a VR guy, and I imagine this would make me sick, hahahaaha
And THPS2 had one of the best openings for a video game with Rage Against The Machine. 🥰
Def cant be Heaven without Gigi Dolin

SYM had a great season mode with the draft, the King Of The Ring, playing as Jeff Hardy, and RVD in the season mode. 😊
Yo DANDANS looking forward to this one plus Ian just watched resident evil let's play Friday on pateron damn that's was awesome Sir
FINNAAAALLLLLLYYYYY!!!! PART2!!!!

Every chance I get, lol. She’s tattooed on me.
3:52 I'm 39 didn't get my first computer until 2004 after moving out on my own. My mom still doesn't own one.
I grew up playing the N64 version, that one doesn't have the chopper drop level, no videos, no Mat Hoffman demo (as someone said, the port does have the 1st level of MH Pro BMX) and only snippets of some songs of the soundtrack but has everything else and does look better in the N64 if the expansion pak is used
Eventually I also had the original Xbox one and it is pretty cool too
That commercial was all over the place back in the day.
thank you my good sir for letting these kids know how it was, I'm 38 the first time I remember caring about the internet was diablo 1 and I learned the hard way what happens when someone picked up the phone off the receiver to let me know my time was up was a harsh reality 💯🤣🤣😁
Fun facts about THPS2 ports:
The N64 port contains the opening level from Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX.
The Dreamcast version is a slightly better version of the ps1 version and Private Carrera was swapped for an original punk chick skater.
THPS2X let you swap the soundtrack for the one you had put on the internal hard drive, and it also let you have LAN parties.
Another fun fact about THPS2 ports: the iOS version allowed gyro control. But honestly, would you wanna use those controls?
@@ChaseMC215 funny thing about that version. Nobody knows where it came from or who uploaded it.
I'll admit that I completely forgot about the first episode of this series until I saw this one was uploaded I had the first episode in my watch later list so I watched the first one just to get caught up on the series before it got too far along lol
Glad you circled back, lol
@616Entertainment I just kept telling myself I wanna watch it even tho I'm not much into skateboarding I wanted to see the history of such an iconic series

I played The TJ Lavin’s BMX game
The first Uncharted is my favorite as well
Funny how much less tony seemed to care about quality as the series went on 😁 but you cannot blame the dude he isn't a developer after all so I totally get it...but the first few of these games are bangers and that remaster the released a year or two ago was wonderful

My favourite game of all time
THPS series was the best from 1999-2005
Gigi Dolan is in any version of heaven you can think of 😂
My late cousin is who got me into the series (metal gear too)
RIP to a legend.
Yeah Resident evil the director scott is my I got it on playstation I got it.
From my wife a couple of years ago , she loves it to your favorite one
Definitely true. I grew up the same no internet. We did have an old ass computer with a minesweeper and jeopardy on it, but yeah, kids, it's true great video
