I done my GCSE'S all the way in 2018, and I'm still listening to stuff like this as a podcast. I'm currently at the University of York, studying Business & Management but I appreciate all the help Mr Bruff channels has provided. Other than my English teacher (He was head of department) he is 2nd best English teacher.
‘blackning Church appalls.’ The use of the verb ‘blackning’ may suggest how the Church, which was meant to be a holy and humanitarian institution, is spiritually and morally blackened at the condoning of suffering and causing more people, such as child labourers, to suffer. Also a direct reference to the child labourers who spent up to 19 hours a day swarmed in soot. Blake, although a devoted and religious Christian, despised the church as he also did to the monarchy and other establishments at the time and he might be trying to demonstrate why he believes so. Furthermore, the verb ‘blackning’ is juxtaposed to the verb ‘appalls,’ potentially reflecting how just as these two words shouldn’t be beside each other, so too the church should not be beside the abuse of power on innocent civilians, whom they should be helping. The verb ‘appalls,’ could also indicate how the church is heartless and has had life sucked out of them with the greed and exuberance of power.
This poem is for the 19th century and the industrial revolution caused a bad position for London people they (London people) were suffering and it was so overpopulated stanza 2 focus on the causes of suffering and stanza 1 is about suffering and there's repetition in his poem marks of woe and rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer William Blake was more of and artist then an poet and still he made this poem very good 🎉🎉🎉🎉 hope you all enjoyed the summary 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊
Thanks I'm revising this for my first assessment of year 10 next week and this really helped me get clued up on what was actually going on in this poem lol 😂😊
any poem that presents the power that people have as selfish or not to good use e.g ozymandias, my last duchess, emigree, kamikaze. imo it’s easiest to compare with ozymandias but any of those are alr
PLEASE REPLY SIR!! I HAVE AN EXAM PLEASE IN LANGUAGE PAPER 2, for question 5 you have to strongly agree or strongly disagree with the point, right? But do you need to include COUNTERARGUMENTS TO CREATE A “BALANCED” ARGUMENT ??
Can we compare this poem to "Ozymandias" as a criticism of the Christian church of the time? "Blackning church" or London and the general criticism of the biblical allusion of "King of kings" in Ozymandias. Edit: Also can we compare how the abuse of power leads to the corruption and destruction of society?
Both poets were romantic poets, so they were both very anti-establishment. Blake focuses on the establishments of the Church, whereas Shelley focuses on the inevitablility of Monarchy leading to oppression, as well as the temporary nature of human power. They're basically perfect to compare with each other r
I would be incredibly surprised if Blake really did DELIBERATELY use 7 syllables instead of 8 'to reflect the weakness of those suffering'. Surely he just couldn't think of anything with 8 syllables?
