  • We took a trip to Tirano in Italy and watched Italian Trenord and Swiss Rhaetian railway (RhB) narrow gauge trains go by. The old mechanical bells on the RhB line are still working but unfortunately the old rotating Girandola warning mechanisms have now been replaced with modern red lights.
Bernina Express trains on the RhB line run from Tirano to St. Moritz and Disentis / Mustér in Graubünden, Switzerland.
Rhaetian railways in Rhaeto-Romance is Viafier retica, Ferrovia Rhaetica in Italian and Rhätische Bahn in German.

Really like the bells on the crossings. Just right between a warning and being an annoyance.

Thank you for this video. I watched a video with the view on board the train and it is lovely to see what it looks like from the ground.

    I'm from Tirano.
at about 2'50 "the level crossing passes a tractor that pulls two wagons and then turns back shortly afterwards.
the Swiss station is a few meters on the left, they have to do this every time they have to move wagons, sometimes the entire convoy, from one platform to another because the exchange is beyond the level crossing.
