Interesting I’ll check this company out, I got sugar maple seed grow kit from Sequoia Trees online and currently have them situated in fridge until late Winter. I didn’t soak them beforehand but figured if I keep them moistened and chilled they should be fine. 👍
Morning. Just recieved email back from 1 of my sugar maple seed suppliers. Put seeds into bags individually , if 1 gets moldy you only loose 1 seed . Also keep bag slightly open for some air flow . Thought this might help. Take Care
I have recently started growing JM's from cuttings. I might try them from seed also in the future. I made a short video on my YT channel showing my first Acer Palmatum cuttings I took in late March. I have 12 which made it through summer. I have a few other varieties now taken a few days ago also which I showed at the end.
Hi . Something I just read. Regarding sanitizing potting soil. If the soil temp gets over 180 degrees F. The soil can actually produce toxins over heated. The other is using water other than rain water. Rain water is very soft & it picks up nutrients while falling . So I'm thinking rain or snow water could possibly be better than well or processed water . Take care Doug Stamler
Thanks Doug, All rain water here. I made the mistake of watering with my treated well water one season!! Lost a bunch of patio herbs and a few near the house trees !!
Hi I am from Bangladesh, South Asia. Here our climate is kind of hot and humid. In summer the temperature is around 35-40 degree Celsius with humidity of 70-90%. In winter the temperature varies from 15-25 degree Celsius. During rainy season we have cloudy weather around 2-2.5 months. How can I grow Suger Maple from seeds in such condition? And I have also collected some seeds of Manchurian Maple Tree ( Acer mandshuricum). How can i grow trees from manchurian maple seeds? Your assistance is highly appreciated.
Because these trees grow naturally in your climate, you would not need to go through the steps I have highlighted in this video. I personally would soak the seeds for 12 to 24 hours in clean water and then plant 2-3 seeds into pots with soil. Keep the soil moist but not overly wet and see what happens. Let me know how it goes Mike
@@HagonjonesHomesteadthanks a lot for your kind response. I have already planted some seeds. Kept some of them in the fridge and some in the natural environment. I will definitely let you know.
Hi. Have you had any luck with sprouting & growing these sugar maples? What area do you live? I am considering growing some also. We reside on the southern Canadian prairies. Thank You
Hi Doug, I had mixed success on many of the trees planted that spring. I believe 5-10 of the maples sprouted and I have 5 ish that made it through this summer. I did another 50 seeds this fall and soaked them for 24 hours this time. Hoping that provides better results. Mike
Hi Jason . Have talked with a few seed companies that sell the SM seeds. Their experts & say they can be a real challenge to get sprouted & established. 1 fellow said to work dry seeds between thumb & forefinger to get very slight cracks in outer shell before soaking in water. Best of luck. Thanks for quick response.
I believe vermiculite it's best because other substrates are way to acid for the seed and I recommend you to keep your tree in inside a green house with a temperature of 20 Celsius for about a year... But that's just the conditions I keep cause my country...
2 companies have seeds, winter 2021-22. I live near Winnipeg. Mb. Sugar maples are here . But not very common at all. Hoping I can grow these little darlings .

Cool. Good luck with your seeds. I am confident you are correct.
Thank you for making this informative video!

Hi, I lived in a tropical country. Can I propagate the maple tree seeds direct without going through the process of cold stratification? Thanks
I am by no means an expert. Sugar maple grow in zones 3 to 8. I believe you need to cold stratify to “activate” the seed.
You can put seeds in the refrigerator if they need cold and you live in a warm place.
People buy maple seeds? I got a new business plan.
Do it !! All the Canadian seed suppliers sold out last winter
