    AT 6:33 When Ritchie bends the string and parallelly Jon Lord plays a downward smear on the Hammond organs. That combination is electrifying.

    I was born 1962, know this song since 1973/74 from the live album "Made in Japan"...hear it again and again, still today. But watching Ritchie is another world. This unbelievable guitar solo starting about 04:40....... can't hardly follow his fingers with my eyes. That's music, that's art, that's the implementation of emotion, skill and heart. I regret the generation of youth of today who don't get to know real music anymore

    A guitar solo, back in 1969, that came from a place no-one dared to go. Not Hendrix, not Alvin lee, Not Jimmy Page. Only Blackmore went there and he brought back magic, didn't he. Gillan's voice was alreadsy shot here; he couldn't sing the high notes any longer. I've seen him doing it before. I've watched and heard him. It was magical, back in the day. I cried over it and still do at times.

      Fuck yes! I kind of overlooked him for most of my life.Watching him play this solo was astonishing . I was born in 1976 so Deep Purple were not really part of the "generation" of music i grew up on. However , after i stole this compilation cassette called Masters of Metal or something like that and it had bands ranging from Deep Purple to Metal Church, i was completely blown away by the song Perfect Strangers which was featured on the cassette . I was around 14 then i believe . So when my mother and i were in a used record store shortly after heaing the song , and i saw the Vinyl version of th Perfect Strangers LP i talked her into buying it for me. Perfect strangers is a PERFECT song .It is super memorable , filled with emotion and the bad is so tight . But it did not feature any over th top guitar playing like this song here did.Oh and of course when i started playing guitar Smoke on the water along with Iron Man were the firsrt riffs i learned lol. But isnt that th case for all rock/metal guitarists ?

My first concert was seeing Deep Purple at the royal Albert hall with Ronnie James Dio and the London symphony orchestra at the age of 15 and I was obsessed after seeing you live. Dad & I went to pretty much Every UK show after. He loved your music so much and you were his favorite band, he often referred to Jon Lord as "God with sunglasses". My Dad was a true Deep Purple fan and was even wearing one of your T-Shirts when he took his final breath. Thank you so much for the music. Much love!

      @sandeepsreehari9188 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Good observation. But if you analyze deeper, you'll see how Glover and Paice precisely keep up the rhythm section. Ritchie is able to improvise his solo only because of the rhythm section being so accurate. Jon Lord then attacks the guitar solo with his overdriven Rock organs to enhance the instrumental solo. You can listen to the middle section where all three of them go crazy... this is thanks to Jon Lord gradually increasing the pitch and overdrive. What an amazing team work !!!

    Deep Purple live is pure excitement! I have seen and heard Blackmore live many times, but he never sounded better than this. The rhythm section as always drives this machine and are incredible. Only Ian Gillan sounds off on this. The years of screaming caught up to him.

      I somehow think Ian Gillan is great here. Sure he has sounded better but there is something with him not exactly hitting those high notes and resorting to power and brute force that makes it insanely emotional, he is pouring his soul out into the microphone.

    • @robertburke784
      @robertburke784 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@otnoirhc I read an article about Purple, where Gillan didn't want to sing this song at some shows because his voice wasn't up to it. Blackmore, who didn't care for Gillan at this time, would purposely play it just to make Ian look bad.

    • @sandeepsreehari4687
      @sandeepsreehari4687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On the contrary... I feel Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were more influential as bands. Sabbath started the Metal genre and Zeppelin had good and versatile song writing abilities. But Among the three, Deep Purple undoubtedly had the best stage presence and put on some of the best shows. I think Purple was a band that was very particular about paying attention to detail especially Lord and Blackmore. This gave Purple the advantage over the other two in terns of throwing the best live shows.

    • @unacuentadeyoutube13
      @unacuentadeyoutube13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In terms of keyboard and guitar, they were truly influential. Both Lord ans Blackmore changed the perception of the instrument, but as a band itself, Led Zep and Black Sabbath are way more influential. Led Zep is the definition of hard rock, and Black Sabbath gave birth to metal. Bonham was also absolutely influential, the most influential drummer in rock history I must say. John Paul Jones was a great musician in every way, Plant's vocal were something never seen before and Page's riffs were absolutely great. For me, Led Zep is probably the most influential band behind the Beatles, each one of its members were the best on their instruments (something you don't see everyday) and they defined the 70's rock music.

    • @AlexAlexon3897
      @AlexAlexon3897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Black Sabbath are to BLAME for metal. Ozzy Osbourne is a terrible singer who doesn't even write his own lyrics - and he's committed vile crimes against animals. Iommi and Butler are good, but being associated with that singer negates their relevance. The Big 3 to me is Purple, Zeppelin and Mott the Hoople, who were just as heavy but not metal. The press has bigged up Black Sabbath, but in fact they were regarded as a joke pre-stoner culture, with vacant people using the word "like" in every sentence. Purple apparently sold twice as many records as The Sabs, and Zeppelin sold twice as many as Purple, so that tells you something about influence. Uriah Heep were also pretty successful, and Budgie. And there's the small matter of Rainbow, Whitesnake and Gillan...

    • @davidmaddox4376
      @davidmaddox4376 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexAlexon3897 Black Sabbath was great too, you're just very pretentious. I love Zeppelin and Purple every bit as much, and they are all great bands. Ozzy was a great vocalist within the 70s and 80s. His voice did age, but so did Plant's and Gillian's. Ozzy isn't quite as good a vocalist or lyricist as Gillian and Plant sure, but still did great things with the voice that he had. You can't hear songs like Mama I'm Coming Home or Goodbye to Romance and not feel moved by Ozzy's vocals. He is brilliant in Snowblind, Changes, Planet Caravan, War Pigs, and a whole lot of other great tracks. And Geezer Butler is probably the best bass player of the three bands, and a great lyricist as well. Not to mention Tony's riffs and even his acoustic playing and overall songwriting capabilities, are top notch. He can write metal, but also pleasing acoustic segments as well. Of course Page and Blackmore are both capable of this as well, Tony is capable. Fluff is a perfect example, Children of The Sea, Spiral Architect, Heaven and Hell. There is plenty of good within their music, especially with Ozzy and the great Ronnie James Dio as the vocalists. Great music and album sales have nothing in common, because there are thousands of brilliant musicians who aren't selling that many albums, especially these days. You could argue over their influence, but bro, every one knows Iron Man, every one knows War Pigs, and there are thousands of great bands to come from Sabbath and the sound that they created. Their music was great and it helped deepen the sound that rock and roll stared. And lets not pretend that Zeppelin and Purple were perfect bands either. They did a lot of crazy shit too. You think that Jimmy Page or Robert Plant are entirely innocent? Or Ritchie Blackmore? Hell, even John Lennon was a piece of shit at times. And even some of their albums, while brilliant, can have some boring songs. No band is perfect, no matter how brilliant they are. But they all made great and highly influential music that certainly paved the way for thousands upon thousands of musicians all around the world for over 50 years. Whether you like the band's music or not, their influence is there, and it speaks for itself really. And the music is good, that's what should matter overall. Sabbath earned their legacy, no one cares if you don't like them, because they are still with Purple and Zeppelin as the Big 3. Even the 3 riffs every one learns to play on guitar are Iron Man, Whole Lotta Love and Smoke on the Water. That speaks for itself about who is the Big 3.

    • @diffbreak2366
      @diffbreak2366 ปีที่แล้ว

      Debatable because I love all 3 bands with a slight bias towards Gillan on vocals (also because of his solo work esp JCS), Iommi on the guitar, Butler on the bass, Paice on the drums. Lord has no equal except in Manzarek and Emerson. So, of the 3, overall DP for me.
