The BK62 is by far one of my favorite knives! I own two of them, one with the original handles and another with the canvas micarta handles that K-bar makes for it. I also have a dogwood custom version. I do wish a 4 inch model would come out. But the simplicity of a Kephart can’t be beat!

I agree it’s one of the best knives out there, what do you think of the canvas micarta? I want to buy a second BK 62 and re-handle it.

@@the_orange_shepherd6938 the micarta scales change the balance just a hair. It moves it back away from the blade just a bit. I bought some rit dye and dyed mine partially green. Made it look cool! They do provide a bit more grip but other than the slight shift in the balance point they do not charge the overall feel of the knife.

Ever since I saw the kephart knife being used by bushcrafters, I've wondered why people like it so much. It has a fairly large following. To me, it resembles the shape of a tongue depressor. It's so basic and simple. This interview helps my understanding of the knife's popularity.

Man you gotta love Mr Ethan Becker. A real legend in the knife world.
My Becker knives are still some of my favourite knives. They will never grow old. I’ve used my Becker knives more frequently and harder than any other knives in my collection and they keep coming back for more

Love hearing any interview with Ethan. The BK62 quickly became my favorite knife. It does everything I could possibly need a woods knife to do.

Thanks for getting that footage. Very interesting. I have often wondered about the quality of knives used by mountain men in the early 1800s but I can’t find much written about it. Some of the drawings from that era show a knife shape similar to the Kephart. Also, thanks for sharing the link to the Knife Magazine article about the original Kephart knife.

Ethan Becker is a great story teller, sharing lots of information and history. I have the BK62 and love it, not only because it’s a great knife but also because of its provenance to Horace Kephart. I’m still hoping that Ka Bar will produce a four inch version of the BK62 that would be closer to Kephart’s personal knife. In the meantime I’m going to order the Old Hickory Kephart on your recommendation. Thanks for another great video.

ka bar kephart saved my life once, was out hunting and my rifle jammed, this 500lb stag i was tracking got spooked and ran at me, barely dove out the way and got my shoulder torn open and dislocated my arm by its antler, on adrenaline i drew my kephart and pretty much tackled the stag and drove my knife into the stag, got it in the neck, i still cant lift my left arm higher than 45 degrees, but thats worth it just to be alive

Great Video! I got a BK 62, and yes it wants to cut... TOO MUCH!! I cut the sheath... Sad. Just enough for it to be noticeable... Maybe this knife needs a special sheath? The sheath that comes with the BK62 is just a little too nice. IMHO
