  • Attempting to Fix my 1998 Honda Accord Rough Shifting issue. Seems to be common with this Era of Hondas.
    1-2 shift is my only issue now contemplating changing fluid soon.

    I had trouble with my 2003 accord (94,000mi) not shifting properly, thought it was solenoids .I noticed that there was no ground directly from battery negative to engine block, only to fender wells (crazy). I installed a heavy ground wire directly to engine block...no more shift problems. Now at 106,000 miles, still solid shifts.....Al Scott

      Did changing the grounding actually work?

    Check your rear motor mount. On high mile cB7/9 Accords, the rear motor mount often is cracked or dead and needs service. Ez to check: set up camera to record engine bay, start engine in Park, shift gear to Drive, shift back. If engine rotates with shift/load, the rear mount is shot. That adds a LOT of mass to any shift and makes it seems harsh. Replacing the mount is a beyotch! But wait! DIY: center engine, with a jack, inside mount, then fill bushing PARTIALLY with window sealant or poly. Be careful and patient. Good tips found by searching "bushing polyurethane diy" Don't fill completely! There must be flex on the motor mount unless you are high hp racing and can handle a LOT of vibration and reduced streetability and comfort. But solenoid cleaning is a good idea, too. All CB ATs in Accords have harsh shifting but the trannys last. Don't hammer the throttle off the line. Drive it like you're gonna give the car to your daughter for college. Hondas Rule!

    I bought my 2002 at 140k with hard shift from 1st to 2nd. I cleaned all solenoids. It improved but still shift abruptly. So I changed 2nd oil pressure switch to new one. It did improve a lot. I just sold it a few months ago at 270k because cat got stolen it won't pass smog. Otherwise it still running til now.

      Hi! Which one is presure switch? Is that the solinoid valve?
      I have honda city 1997model. The issue was it has a jerk each time im going to put the shifter in reverse or in drive modes. And also i feel the jerking when it changing gears from low to high speed while running. Can i solve this by cleaning the filter or by changing the solinoid valve?

    I learned to change the fluid every year. It really helped keep the transmission functioning. It should have been recommended in owner's manual and that would have eliminated most problems.

    4:15 that connection is a U type button press upwards so that button goes into the U with one finger and grab with other hand with two fingers and pull down and connection comes off, it can be fustrating. There's another solenoid rite under the battery, maybe that will help, the dual linear shift solenoid?

  • @kizito8888
    @kizito8888 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    That's the torque converter lock-up, not the pressure solenoid. Just disconnecting and reading the code will confirm that.

    My yr 2000 2.3 ulev-4 accord was not shifting well into gears, like something was clogged was the feeling i got, after 2 weeks of asking around, haynes mags, asking auto mechanics, and TH-cam videos i took off the double head solenoid but you gotta remove that 17 mm tranny screw to the left side, i got it off and it had gunk over the window screens, went and got the $11.99 mass air cleaner can at o Reilly's, cleaned it off with lint free rag then sprayed 3 little bursts of mass cleaner and hold it above your head so it drains and evaporates in the hot sun, i put it back in and wow it runs good now, i learned dont take off from around corners and stop signs because you put too much torque on the tranny, they are fragile trannys, now in gonna pull out the bottom single head solenoids and clean the window screens with mass flow, very important when you wipe the screen of dirt or dirty oil you only smear the gunky dirt across the tiny screens, you didn't clean it you smeared it, hold it upside down and blast 3 bursts of mass in the sun and it evaporates quick then pour 1/8 teaspoon of tranny on the screens and watch it drain through the tiny screens.

      @@TinkeringTom91 my tranny is about 80 percent healthy but still has slight delay into 3rd gear, before it was running 40 percent, im eventually gonna have to decide to spend 3-4G's on a tranny or bail out, but my next car will be a timing chain Camry around 2010 and a freakin stick shift, no more auto trannys for me, i dont even like the little hesitation the way they shift even if its a new tranny, i been a stick guy all my life until i doped up and brought a used Honda accord auto.

      It should first off change oil & then clear codes if’It pop’s up again change your transmission fluid & clear the code,if that’s buy it then try the solenoid(Trans) & disconnect it & clean the gasket &screens if that doesn’t work try buying a new solenoid & install parts & you should be good after that I’d use Lucas transmission slip fix ❤❤❤❤❤

      Just improved not totally fixed less harsh shifts.. I'm assuming at 270k and fluid never been changed there's some internal wear that won't just go away but can be band-aided for little while. I took out some fluid like a qt and put in some lucas atf conditioner.

      DTC P0780 stands for “Shift Malfunction,” and this is triggered when the input and output speed sensors are unable to determine if the hydraulic pressure in the transmission matches the appropriate RPM and engine load.

    • @TinkeringTom91
      @TinkeringTom91  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on how long it's gone without service. If its way overdue and never serviced it may not be wise because it may do more harm than good when the New Fluid Starts to try and clean old fluid particles that have stuck to walls and will now be cleaned off and potentially clog tranny fluid passages.

      Code p0730 is improper gear ratio. I got the same on my 01 honda crv, just two weeks ago, with a rebuilt transmission 16 months ago. I changed the fluid and will run it for a couple hundred miles before I change the lower shifting solenoid and flush the fluid again. Mine wasn't shifting in low gears so in the meantime I'm shifting it manually from 1 to 2 to D

      It definitely Improved my situation. It drives better than before. I think there are other factors that make my Tranny rough shift... So for some people this may be all you need if you have kept up with Tranny fluid services and the Tranny does not have internal wear
