How to change differential fluid BMW e46 / DIY

  • This video is how to change differential oil on BMW e46 1999-2005 on your own.
    This service should be done every 100 000 km. I usually change differential oil at every 50 000km.
    For this job you will Synthetic need gear oil 75W90, two crush washers PN:07119963355 and 14mm allen socket.

    Nice video mate but for supporting the car please use wood instead of concrete blocks, these tend to crack and break on you.

    You make a big mistake,the key is dinamometric, and dinamometric only work good if you put your hand in the extremety of the tool, and you put in the middle, im not english, but you have to worry to put in the correct dibamometric pression, because the oil gonna begin to drop , worry....

      The engine 2.8L, manual transmission, 2.93 diff ratio.

    My e46 has no drain plug, what's the best solution then? Sucking the old fluid through the filler hole or removing the diff cover plate?

    Might try this on mine my diff is making a noise when driving like breaks that are metal to metal

      If it’s making noise already, then no make sense to change oil. Need to replace diff.

      Yes, it's almost the same. The diff location is on driver side.

    i di this everything tight, but noticed a bit of a leakege on the floor after that. can a diff oil change cause leaks ? i did not over fill it

      There on Front Subframe Reinforcement has jack point on the middle.

    Solid video but on the plug replacements you have both listed in text as the filler plug at 52 ft-lb. The first plug is the drain plug, the second is filler plug. Are both 52 ft-lbs?

      Thank you for watching! If you want locked differential you need to buy LSD for your car model and use SAE 75W-140 oil. If you want just change you diff oil 75W-90. Any brand will work.
