Yes. These are the different aspects or shards of the emperor all speaking at once. Well, they say his soul is split, and the emperor's words always have multiple meaning. Could be the different aspects of his personality talking all at once.
The emperor held to his disdain for the Space marines _specifically_ to hold onto his original humanity in the face of the empires faith and belief attempting to reshape him through the warp. @@CasualREDACTEDIn order to prevent himself from becoming the Dark King when he was rushing to confront Horus on the Vengeful Spirit, a prophesied 5th Chaos God born of Humanity, and commencing a series of events tragically similar to the Fall of the Eldar; Big E cast off a shard of his very being that contained all of his hope, compassion, and love for humanity (one could argue saying he lost his love for his sons is inaccurate, and I’d argue he never really loved any of them, but considered some tools more useful than others). Many believe this shard was cast into the warp, and will achieve a form of Apotheosis, becoming the Star-child, a massively powerful entity of the Warp that it is said will turn the tides in the war against Chaos. It’s all very theoretical, and ephemeral really, it’s hard to say what’s true and what isn’t.
I like the fact that over time the emperor has truly viewed the primers as his children instead of tools of war but he's so conflicted about what he had done to them he genuinely sees himself as more as a tormentor then their father since he used them as tools of war instead of as his children thus helping create modern 40k
@lukeBryen2Over the course of the crusade big E actually started to love the primarchs up until the End and the death pt 2 where oll and grammaticus convinces him not to go with his original plan which would’ve created a fifth chaos god. While that probably would’ve worked in the short term of killing Horus and breaking the traitor legions, a fifth chaos god would’ve been more devastating over a long period of time. He casts off his compassion, love and humanity to battle Horus.
at first he saw them as tools similar to how he viewed the thunder warriors. Great assets that can be disposed of if need be. Then he started to care for them. Then Horus came along. So Big E cast out his love for his primarchs and humanity in order to defeat Horus and saw them all as failed tools again. Thus this video. it's a conflict of caring for Guilliman and also seeing him as a tool and potential Horus. I think when Big E/The Starchild returns he'll wipe the slate clean and start fresh. It'll convince him that the primarchs were indeed failed tools with the exception of like The Lion and maybe someone else. ESPECIALLY when he sees Guilliman shacking up with the Eldar.

He could also be saying: "My son, you must make the choice of ascending and taking my throne, to lead Humanity to victory, or choose to remain as you are, and face defeat. You are my last hope, my last future, my last masterpiece. The decision is yours, my son. You have my wings now, so fly how you will." I much prefer the second theory of what the Emperor was trying to say. It seemed like he was admitting his faults among his victories, but his greatest victory was Guilliman's return, because it was a victory he had not foreseen. It was a victory that changed fate itself, and that's why it's so crucial. People dogpile on Guilliman, but I have a feeling that he was much more than met the eye, simply because of his ability to learn so well. As a tyranid player I have to agree, the Hivemind is not the strongest being actually. I said actually because only a shard of the Hivemind has entered the galaxy, so it’s impossible to actually know the strength of this entity. Maybe it’s just slightly stronger, maybe it’s even powerful enough to make the Chaos Gods to do a deal to counter it. For now we can’t really now, I see a lot of people saying that the Necron are the true chads, but if the Silent King is the strongest of their species (idk much about necron lore) then they won’t be the strongest. The fact is that in Warhammer, even the Orks can be the strongest species, they just need to regroup into a single banner.

You are my last hope, my last future, my last masterpiece. The decision is yours, my son. You have my wings now, so fly how you will."
I much prefer the second theory of what the Emperor was trying to say. @@lavatunwas gonna say this. It’s old lore but I don’t see anywhere where it says it’s not the case of his origins. It also explains why everyone sees him differently and can characterize him differently but they’re all speaking about the same being. Just different facets.
@@yesman866 about that.. I think people see him as different things because he chooses to.. it depends on who sees him though.. like when corax first saw him he was confused why his freedom fighters were on their knees, weeping with joy while proclaiming they've never seen someone so powerfully beautiful while corax saw a normal-looking man in a white robe with a golden aquila pendant coming down from a thunderhawk..
Don't forget they feed him 1000 souls every day, that has had to have had some sort of effect on him too, over 3.5 billion psykers souls consumed by him, no way has that not twisted him slightly.
It’s like the emperor can’t decide how he views anything
Whether it be an means to an end or he truly cares
Truly a broken god trapped in stagnate yet continuous cycle
He's also not one mind. He's at minimum a bunch of shaman minds put into one body, and at most, he's millions of psychic souls all stitched together and fused into a single mad entity.
@@stratigangames508 that's unconfirmed
@@JayJayM57 Unconfirmed, sure. But context clues kids point to it being true.
@@stratigangames508 It is one of several theories about the emperor's origin. some believe he was Earth's original Gods such as Odin, Jesus, etc. and there are many more theories but they don`t have anything to back them up.
if you want context clues we have them but they point to another area. our context clues point to an old one. you know the guys who created the Orks, Eldar, and mess with the Tau. All context clues point to an old one making the emperor and moving to create the ethereal.
"Let me die, for only in death i will rise again"

I find really haunting how it seems that the endgame for humanity is ultimately going to be the Emperor's ascension as a new god and how that could spell either salvation or damnation for all of the galaxy depending on when and how it happens.

Bro their still his father and they see him as one. Imagine your own father calling you a tool and disappointment all while giving you terrible visions.
The gestalt of souls that made up the Emperor is coming apart and they're constantly at war with each other.
I like to focus on the word “choose.”
Everything the Emperor was telling him was what Guilliman himself questioned how his father seen him “A son. Not a Son.” In my opinion the Emperor is telling his avenging son that whatever he chooses to believe he is to him he will still be “My last loyal son, my pride, my greatest triumph.”
He didn’t call Guilliman that. Those words would’ve comforted him, but they’re not what he got.
All that to say, "Please scratch my nose, Nurgle has been picking at it for literal CENTURIES, and just that could begin temporal course correction."
One thing the book mentions. Is that before he speaks, Guiliman feels his energy, The Emperors, strong but fleeting. Not yet gone, but vanishing slowly. The Emperor, despite being on the throne is dying, and so is the throne failing. The Emperor pulls himself together, maybe not for the last time, but almost.
Its important to state the Emperor nearly died putting all his strength to bring many thousands of voices into a single one for a few scant sentences. I think that goes to show just how much he wanted to speak to his son.
"Father, what do you need to tell me?"
"This sh*t ain't nothin' to me, man."

It seems seating on that throne for the past 10,000 years is finally getting to him.

Not even a thousand soldiers can build like a single visionary.
Guilliman would need to become something he never was designed to be.
With the last book of the horus heresy, they confirmed that the Emperor removed his feelings and emotions, at least the human ones, before confronting Horus. This can be one among many reasons of the incredible coldness that the emperor had towards Guilliman.
To me this was always how G-Man’s mind would understand the untethered power and understanding of the Emperor. He hears Big-Es words in both a theoretical and practical sense. A son, no a tool. Theoretically the primarchs are sons, and in a practical sense they are just tools. The fact that G-Man continues to try to bring humanity together shows he reconciled this and knows what to do to put humanity forward
*FOR THE EMPEROR UNTIL THE END*
Watching OP's little avatar guy having a seizure as he quoted the emperor
As a dad myself I really want to give Gulliman a giant fuckin hug and tell him how proud he's made me and what a great man he's become. Nothing else.
10,000 years of “What have I done?”
You know, I know the general take on this scene is meant to display the God-Emperor’s current lack of humanity in the present day, but I also kinda read it as an all powerful man now reduced to a state of psychically-boosted dementia and Guilliman having to confront that reality that his dad isn’t all there anymore, which added a layer of differently flavoured sadness to it
Id let *that* nightmare tear me apart for sure
Fetch me my warhammer son. Not a son a tool. A tool to fetch me my warhammer. Not a warhammer, The Warhammer. 40,000. My last hope. My. Not my. A name. My name. Jimmy Space.
This feeling right here is how every time the emperor is present should feel. Hope, dispare, awe and reverence.
The sliver of hope hanging is the air by a thread constantly threatening to snap. For the EMPEROR!
I think that the Emporor does genuinely care for and love Guilliman despite everything he said to the contrary. It's just that his mind has been shattered into so many pieces.
"Father. Not a Father. Thing Thing Thing. Apotheosis. Victory. Defeat. Choose." I think was the most important part, its Big E describing himself
"My last Hope". That is monumental, much greater than the semi negative connotation behind "tool". The Emperor, the 2nd strongest entity in 40k (Hivemind #1) is like "I'm a failure" basically.
Isn't the Chaos Gods are the strongest entities?
Besides, Hivemind isn't even entity on its own, at least Emperor and Chaos Gods have personalities.
@@urzakarn9782 not gonna argue with that, cuz I have no mood for a shitstorm over a meaningless words.
But I do wonder.
If Tyranids are intergalactic species that are invading the Milky Way. Then what a fuckfest of a galaxy it needs to be, for them to originate in there?
I mean, Nyds have to appear somewhere for them to ascend later. It must be even worse place than Milky Way in 40k, if TYRANIDS became their peak species.
Did you call the hivemind the strongest? You...don't know the lore do you?
Blanks...simple human blanks interupt tyranid connection to the hivemind. Jurgen more than once abuses this little trick to completely slaughter tyranids he has no right to survive.
Necron are able to create a burst of energy that shatters the hivemind's ability to link to an entire SYSTEM. Turning all of the hive fleet caught in it into mindless beasts FOREVER cut off from the hivemind. Best part? If the biomass is brought back to the fleet...that problem remains and anything created using that biomass will be born without a connection to the hivemind.
The Ork WAAAGH!! energy interupts the hivemind as well (I hate how so many black library authors forget about this). A WAAAGH!! the size of which the prophet is always leading would completely block the hivemind and yes this is lore accurate.
@@Nempo13 so... How exactly does an ability to cut tyranids off the hivemind make it any weaker? You can cut one tyranid, one planet of tyranids or an entire system - those are insignificant for a scale on which hivemind seems to operate.
"My pride, my greatest triumph." It says a lot that big E would call Gulliman this. In the end, whatever his reservations, it isn't who is the best that matters to the Emperor, it is the bone deep loyalty and determination to fight even in the absence of hope and light that makes Gulliman the Emperor's "greatest triumph". Powerful stuff.
"Son, thing, number, Guillimand. I require big Mac and whooper."
