    Rivet bucking starting at 0:12. Rivet shaving at 2:20. Countersinking at 2:44. Clecos holding skin in place at 4:08. The shapely-looking women install insulation blankets at 5:34. Landing gear swing at 10:00. Seriously-bent needle at 10:11 (how did that make it through calibration?) The old personnel overpass across Pacific Hwy. at 10:39. A NWA Boeing 377 Stratocruiser at 10:50. F-106 at 11:00. CV-240 at 11:12.

      Think that CV-240 at 11:12 may actually be a Martin 404. Can you imagine the stink raised when that bent-needle gauge showed up in the movie? That pretty much invalidated the gear swing.

      A gauge with a bent needle and a calibration sticker applied?

      Look at that dude's face. "How do I read a gage with a bent needle?".

    Great video! The CV-880 was a beautiful airliner (similar to the B707).

      QANTAS 747 Same engines or different? I seem to remember one of the Convair airliners using GE engines. Were they that thirsty?

    The NWA B-377 Stratocruiser is stock footage shot at Washington National Airport, as is the TWA Martin 404. No Convair 240 is in the film. Mr. Shobar was speaking of the Martin 404.

    Enjoyed the video. For some reason I liked the 990 over the 880. Maybe it was because of the speed pods.

    Amazing! What is equally as impressive to me is that everything was planned and developed with slide rules and drafting boards. It would be so great to have the assets of John Travolta and make flightworthy again one of these aircraft. As you can tell, I would like to have a CV-990 in my driveway. I know... dream on.

      The impressive thing i that aircraft were (and still are) articles of handwork.
      Travolta won't do anything unless his Scientology Cult mandates it.

      Very true! Aircraft engineering is a marvel in itself. Ha.. Ha... about John T. It is too bad I was never an actor. Thank-you for your comment.

    Liked it. The CV-880/990 program nearly wrecked GD.

    Shim being inserted at 9:33. Something wasn't within tolerance.

    0:04 - "Oftener"?? HOW did they allow that? Not even a word!
    Gotta' love the cheesy '50s-'60s "industrial" music!

      Actually it is, but nobody uses it anymore.

    Weren't the 880 and 990 faster than the 707 & DC-8?

    • @MrShobar

      And they had the fuel consumption data to prove it.

      and only after they put the wing speed 'bumps' on. The basic wing had a huge wave drag problem.

    • @GilZu
      @GilZu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. They waw slower but could take more passengers .

      @dougball328 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure which way you are answering this. To clarify, the 880 and 990 were faster than the 707 and DC-8 but were smaller and carried fewer passengers.
