      @@wargamingsorceress I'm thinking of using it on my thousand sons army, the section on the different under coats is so informative now I have some idea which would be best. Btw I love how that colour shifter has a violet/purple tinge to it so if I go up against Orks it's gonna be stealthy 🤣

    I plan to paint my Alpha Legion Marines (the MK VI armor, to be exact. I think new "Beakie" armors from Horus Heresy are perfect models) with very fittingly named Psychotic Illusions from GSW. Thank you for tips, I've heard that gloss primer (already sprayed them with black gloss from Vallejo) is a must for smooth color. I may try giving it a bit of zenithal spray of either silver or dark silver or maybe even gold (to shift it towards yellow-green spectrum) from their metal color line.
    Hell, I may do some testing with spraying over decals, in case this particular paint would work for white too.

    I'm currently painting EVE from Wall-E and researching colour shifts paints.. As soon as you showed the white undercoated beetle, I was instantly like 'I need to know how that was achieved!' so my question is.. lol. How did you achieve the White Pearlescent Beetle.

    • @wargamingsorceress
      @wargamingsorceress  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So you start with a gloss white undercoat. You can use layers of a gloss varnish if you don't have a gloss white. Then use a colourshift paint that has a clear base-tone i.e. it looks white-ish in the bottle. In this case I think I used Vallejo 77.009 (turquoise violet)

    i'm doing my War of the Ring minis and wanted to do Saruman of many colours instead of plain old white, this was super helpful! Since these are board game pieces I'd like to do a varnish to protect them, would this knacker the color shift effect?

    • @wargamingsorceress
      @wargamingsorceress  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A gloss varnish should be fine but I imagine a matte would dull the effect.

  • @lastdracon
    @lastdracon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How would you go about darkening them? I plan to use the vejello blue/purple but i saw its too bright for what i want. Second do i need a protective coat over the shift paint and seal it in?

    • @wargamingsorceress
      @wargamingsorceress  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a good question. It is not something I have really tried. If you mix it in with paint, you start to lose the effect.
      You could try mixing in a little bit or a dark ink or try a dark blue undercoat rather than black. Black gives the strongest effect so if you go slightly dark but not black it should not be quite as bright.
      You can also add a very dark wash over it but know that this tends to dull the effect as well.
      As for a protective sealant. I don't tend to varnish my models and have yet to see any damages on these style of paints. However, if you do want to seal it I would go with a gloss varnish over the colour shifter parts

    Have you tried Green Stuff World's interference paints? They are very similar to these color shift paints, but only have a single pigment, so you can (theoretically) mix them to get new effects. I bought them a while ago but never had the courage to try them lol

    Question: I’m going to assume a matte varnish once the model is done will will ruin the effect? I assume you can really only use gloss varnish over the top?
    The gloss undercoat was definitely a new tip for me.

    • @wargamingsorceress
      @wargamingsorceress  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't varnish my models so haven't tested it. However from theory, it would dull the effect and make it look more diffused or glittery. A gloss or satin would be my pick
