I am a Strat-guy , (but) No go for me. . . . even Losing 5% of that "Airy Top End Glassiness" - you'd might as well use Noiseless Pickups and they are Unacceptable (tone-wise) to me. I will just deal with the 60 cc hum.
You're not wrong, it's a lot harder to notice when you're barely running any kind of overdrive. But it is noticeable when you do a "silent stage" type setup. Decide from the buzzing everybody complains about in their IEMs, it does come through the speaker mains when you're going direct. If I had my way, I would always have my amp on stage and everybody could just embrace the hum 😁. But I decided to give it a shot because why not? 🤷🏼♂️ Is the juice worth the squeeze? The jury is out on that. But I don't use the dummy coil feature all that often simply because of the frequency loss if that tells you anything.
Right?? I do find it suppresses the highs a little bit though. It's perfect for very pretty softer sounds, or chunking through some lighter overdrive rhythm runs, but for lead and especially when using a fuzz, I like it better with the dummy coil off. But a lot of the stuff I do is worship guitar anyway which requires a more "narrow field" sound that the dummy coil delivers really well! And then all I have to do is slap the knob down and I'm ready to rip solos 🤙🏻.
Nice! I would have loved to have seen the dummy coil, jus' sayin'.
Ha! Yeah 🤦🏼♂️I thought about that AFTER the fact. My bad!
Nice would love to see the build process with instructions.
Did you wire the dummy coil in series or parallel?
Sorry for the late response! It is wired in parallel.

Can't you reverse the switching so that the default ( knob pushed down) is the dummy coil engaged mode?
Absolutely! But I find myself using the dummy coil only in a few instances so I just prefer it as a "knob up" feature
With this much gain - nobody can hear a difference in the sound, with or without dummy coil. So don't worry about it.

I can't believe I never knew about this. Just made a dummy coil and put it in my SG that has a GFS Surf 90 neck pickup. Remarkable difference.
