Im super excited as an aspiring BCBA. Im finishing my 2nd masters degree and am determined after working for several companies and have not found my best fit for supervision. I am working towards the 2000 hours, but it is worth it when working as a RBT seeing progress in a client's outcomes. This field is becoming more diverse, but we are not there yet. But I’ve also taught at Bay Path university. I recommend both programs. There is also Georgia State, Ball State, and Arizona state who all have pretty high passing rates. A lot of people gravitate towards Cappella because it’s affordable. I hope this helps

Hmmm I’m trying to think it’s been so long. I know I didn’t have time to study everyday because I was working full time. But I definitely blocked off my Friday- Mondays for studying. If I couldn’t do that, I would bring my study equipment to family gatherings. I would study in the evenings during the week. Most of my studying was me completing the BDS modules and it helps to keep you on track
Same!! Recently, my kids told me “you work too much” so eventually the sign may loose its value and you actually have to take a break and give your kids a 15 min uninterrupted mommy activity. Then, back to studying.

Hello! I am new to this channel and I am loving your work! I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology as well. I have a Masters degree in Childhood education and special education 1-6. Unfortunately, my mother passed away not too long ago, so I do not plan to become a special education teacher right away. I do not want anything too committed right away when I did not get a chance to grieve yet. So I thought becoming a substitute teacher (hopefully both public and charter school) during the day (8-2/3) and an aba therapist at night (4-7). I have 2 kids son 11 (with autism) and daughter 10. Since eventually I will become a special education teacher 😫 Godwilling, I do plan to get Master's plus 30 (additional credits, increased pay). So I am going to get an autism certificate, a couple of aba courses, and an extension for birth-2nd grade, to work with younger children as well such as in a field early childhood intervention specialist. This will definitely give me a variety of knowledge, although in similar courses. Once all of that is all said and done I do plan to write children's book, and finally take my workout and health seriously! 😅

i have a question about whether you took the exam online or in person? i am curious because i am in the process of getting ready to try to take exam online but i am confused by the diffculty i was having to begin the exam and doing the check in process and when i tried to begin exam it wouldnt and no error message. i tried calling pearson vue three times and got no where today so i had no choice but to reschedule but i have no idea what is goin on i ran the system test so idk

Proactive Strategies!! We are in alignment in what’s effective. Thanks for applying to your own life and real world experiences!! It’s super refreshing. S-delta is a stimulus signaling reinforcement is not available. An Sd becomes S-delta when extinction procedures are implemented. So behavior that was a response to Sd no longer provides the reinforcement, which should result in behavior decreasing. However, in response to an S-d that is changed to S-delta, an extinction burst can result which is a temporary increase in behavior as a response (higher frequency, greater intensity or duration or all), as a result of higher efforts to access the reinforcer that was maintaining that behavior. That’s why it’s important to teach alternate replacement behaviors. I really miss being in a clinic setting and working with a team and using all this terminology. Thanks for the opportunity! Do you think that RBT’s get enough access to training from the BCBA on their cases? In general? I think there is a wide variation of experience and understanding of how to generalize skills across clients but interested in what your opinion is.

To answer your question, RBTs receiving adequate training from their BCBA really relies on the BCBAs work volume, competency, & experience. Not all BCBAs are teachers. It also depends on what the RBT ask for. I had an RBT who would always ask questions and always wanted to know more, but I’ve also had RBTs who just wanted to get their work done. Behavior goes where reinforcement flows. So if you want more BST training from your supervisor, don’t be afraid to ask for it. I hope this helps. Honestly, I carried mommy guilt and I still carry mommy guilt because this path or program will take you away from your family at times. But I’ve learned to be gentle with myself, and be intentionally about time spent with your son. Honestly I don’t know if I’m doing it right. But Christian is well. He has matured leaps and bounds, increased independence and I can say that he’s happy. That’s what I have to rest in. He’s well and happy.

S-delta is a stimulus signaling reinforcement is not available. An Sd becomes S-delta when extinction procedures are implemented. So behavior that was a response to Sd no longer provides the reinforcement, which should result in behavior decreasing. However, in response to an S-d that is changed to S-delta, an extinction burst can result which is a temporary increase in behavior as a response (higher frequency, greater intensity or duration or all), as a result of higher efforts to access the reinforcer that was maintaining that behavior. That’s why it’s important to teach alternate replacement behaviors.

Do you think that RBT’s get enough access to training from the BCBA on their cases? In general? I think there is a wide variation of experience and understanding of how to generalize skills across clients but interested in what your opinion is.

To answer your question, RBTs receiving adequate training from their BCBA really relies on the BCBAs work volume, competency, & experience. Not all BCBAs are teachers. It also depends on what the RBT ask for. I had an RBT who would always ask questions and always wanted to know more, but I’ve also had RBTs who just wanted to get their work done. Behavior goes where reinforcement flows. So if you want more BST training from your supervisor, don’t be afraid to ask for it. I hope this helps. Lou Lou hello!!! Welcome and congratulations on your journey. Great questions. Honestly, I carried mommy guilt and I still carry mommy guilt because this path or program will take you away from your family at times. But I’ve learned to be gentle with myself, and be intentionally about time spent with your son. Honestly I don’t know if I’m doing it right. But Christian is well. He has matured leaps and bounds, increased independence and I can say that he’s happy. That’s what I have to rest in. He’s well and happy.
