Same. Unless something catastrophic happens, I should have at least three things paid off by Easter and at least two more things by the end of the year.
I’ve been buying all the new viral makeup for the last 2 years and I’m just sooo over it!! It’s done nothing but put me in debt, deep depression and now my collection is soo big I’m over whelmed and never get to use what I have because it’s too much!! I’ve decided to start working on my physical fitness goals instead of purchasing the newer foundation that at the end of the day, is just like every other foundation on the market and there is no magical formula that will make me look 10 years younger!!
I lost my job in May and decided to retire. I’m definitely on a no buy! Can I add- don’t buy Mystery Boxes! Chances are you’ll get something you already have, a color you won’t wear. It’s basically stuff that didn’t sell.
I'm with you. I got a Colourpop mystery box and it was fun but I ended up giving my niece several of the palettes because her coloring worked with them better than mine.
When I consider an eyeshadow palette, I first look at the colors I know I will NEVER use such as rosey, mauve, red, warm browns, yellow, black or gold. I then count the remaining pans and look at the price. Will I pay $85 for those 7 shadows? Probably not. I've passed on MANY palettes by doing this..lol. Great video! Thanks for the reminders 👍
I stopped buying large palettes and buy quads or nine pans is my max. I realized when cleaning out my eyeshadow collection a few years ago, that I would buy expensive palettes with too many shades I won’t use. Red, yellow, blue, greens, cool toned browns, I don’t like any of those shades on my eyes, so why buy palettes with those shades because one particular shade caught my eye.
@daliaa5294 I think they're most people's favorite! I think they're beautiful, too. Unfortunately, with my red hair and red undertone, I look like a clown in them 😕
@@gategirl66 You will probably laugh at this but I did a spreadsheet of all my eyeshadow colors, even those in palettes. And when I see a new palette I evaluate what is in the palette against what is on the spreadsheet. I was shocked at how many shades of brown I owned. I did the spreadsheet after doing a serious declutter, so I really had saved the very best. I know it is kind of anal-retentive but it works a treat.
I'm old enough to have used makeup for years before social media existed. No one I know had a makeup "collection". I love makeup, but I only need so much. I hear people say they can't keep up with new makeup (or fragrance) launches. We aren't meant to! I don't run out and buy new towels every time a new color or style is released. But then again, no one is relentless marketing those to me. I would love to see the beauty space on TH-cam be more about using, experimenting with, and learning how to apply makeup rather than reviews and sales pitches. Thank you for a commonsense video!
@@katfayegarrett3872I've always had more lipstick than I need! 😏 (Though that's about six lipsticks, and I go through most of them in a year or less...)
I'm NOT BUYING another makeup product until I use some of this absolute monstrosity of a collection I already have. I'm tired of tossing makeup products NOT BECAUSE I'VE USED THEM UP, but because they've expired because I have so much I'm just not able to use them! It's wasteful, and I am so over it. At this point, I'm pretty confident in knowing what I love, and trying new things usually ends up in me tossing them because they're NOT what I love!! Thank you so much for this video AND the motivation!! ❤
I should do the same! I am definitely a makeup junkie and seriously am I able to use everything before expiration?...probably not. I am not a beauty influencer or MUA I know I dont need so much I have gotten myself into a bad and expensive habit!!!!! Good luck and Happy New Year to all!!
I totally agree with you about buying over priced makeup. I am sick and tired of influencers who only review that stuff. There are about two or three things I own that are priced above drugstore and I love them, but the rest I will go with what works best for me. Thank you Andrea for your consistently excellent and professional work. If I owned a Fortune 500 company I would want you working with me, I think no matter what you put your mind to you would excel. Have a great 2025!
Makeup prices are honestly getting out of control! It’s been crazy to see what brands have gotten away with over the last few years and what prices we now consider to be normal. 😭
Really good point about making the decision not to spend money on drugstore if it hasn’t worked for you. I’ve had so many disappointments with Elf products, that I just stopped spending money on their new releases most of which don’t suit me. I also loathe cheap packaging that breaks quickly, so I’ve stopped with that. However, luxury makeup is often ridiculously expensive so I tend to stick to more mid priced brands.
Yes! I feel like it’s completely valid to not be a big fan of drugstore products, especially when it comes to packaging. As much as I love brands like essence, it’s really frustrating how their compacts break so easily. 😭
I'm exactly like you! I have never found an elf product that worked for me. I stopped buying drugstore products except for lip products here and there. Mid-range products is where it's at!
Agreed, most super luxury like Chanel, Dior etc you're paying a lot for packaging and marketing, I stick with makeup artist preferred brands because that stuff has to perform. Also I wish I could wear drugstore but it's not shade inclusive on both ends of the spectrum. Rcma, MUFE, Face Atelier, Makeup atelier Paris, Kryolan etc are all great brands and not crazy $$$
My skin changed from being oily to dry and flaky. The products that worked for me at 25 do not work for 39 year old me. The only drug store products that work for me now is mascara, brow gel, Fit me loose powder, and the L’Oréal skin tint. Everything else is non drugstore.
I so agree with you on this entire list! 1. Overpriced mascara or high end products not on sale 2. I also hate liquid bronzer! 3. I have way too many blushes and lipsticks 4. I’m always let down when I stray away from my holy grail complexion products 5. I don’t think I’ve purchased a makeup set in years lol 6. I also won’t blind buy fragrances anymore 7. Ngl I was interested in that fenty gloss balm too…
Talk about a video that i needed to see! I had already decided to go on a no-buy or at least a low-buy this coming year because my spending has gotten out of control. My wake up call was becoming a diamond member at Ulta a few months ago. I felt ashamed of myself for spending so much this past year. I'll be glad to drop back down to the bottom tier in the new year. My problem is I cant resist sales. The black Friday/cyber Monday sales did me in. I'm drowning in products--i have a basket of blushes and lip products that i will probably never use in my lifetime. I have pricey skincare that may not be any better than stuff from the drugstore. So thank you, Andrea, for this video. It was a lot of fun to watch but it also addressed something serious that really resonated with me.
This was indeed a fabulous video - I definitely overspent on eyeshadow palettes that were on sale (did I actually need them, absolutely not!!). 🤦🏽♀️🙄😱
I hear you. But with all those points racked up you need to get some things. I love Ulta & will buy a few things but l really don't need anything. Once I awhile it's OK to treat yourself to a new lipstick but those eyeshadow pallettes will never get used up 😅
What a refreshing outlook. Thank you for not pushing products and pushing over consumption. Not a lot of creators speak so candidly and responsibly about it.
Such a great video Andréa! I lost my job 2 weeks ago after 19 years and I have been going through my makeup collection to sell unused items on Mercari to earn some extra money. It made me realize that I have WAY too much! I am most definitely on a low/no buy for awhile! ❤
I refuse to buy any fragrances that I've not smelt/tried on in person. I'm a fan of floral scents, but there's so much variation that I can't tell based off a description if I'll like the perfume or not. And where possible, I prefer to have a wear test of products before i buy them, because sometimes when they dry down they smell completely different or have an undertone that I can't stand.
When it comes to fragrance, I use those little vials that come as a point perk, or free with purchase. My body chemistry completely changes a perfume. I have to wear for a good 3-6 hours to find out what something smells on me. Most companies and stores are happy to share one of those tiny vials.
I have been on a no buy for 3 years and STILL have enough makeup. I have sold some of the things that were newer and didn’t work for me and then used that money to buy other things I wanted to try. Now for 2025 I will not even be doing that. I will be on a complete no buy all year and only buy an hourglass palette next fall and a natasha denota eyeshadow palette next Black Friday. Nothing else.
Thank you for bringing up preferences, whether it be high-end or drugstore. I have been buying nothing but drugstore because of the price, but I have been less than thrilled with some of my purchases, so now im just trying to be more intentional and get what I actual want instead of always going cheaper. That was my lesson this year.
This video spoke to me. I bought a lot of makeup in 2024 that I haven’t even finished yet. I will continue to live vicariously through my favourite TH-camrs such as yourself. Also, without punishing me, if I fancy a new product, I’ll go to store & I will physically try it before purchasing it. I think that doable. PS, Andrea, I love the green colour of your hoodie matching your green shiny nails!!! The colour and thickness of your hair are out of this world. Bravo 👏🏻
I went through all of my makeup yesterday and then noted and counted everything I have. That was eye opening to say the least. 😬 I’ve decided on a low buy this upcoming year and will be greatly reducing my blush and lipstick purchases.
I definitely understand! When I filmed my lip product declutter, I was actually blown away by how many products I have accumulated. 😭 Definitely cutting way back this year!
I agree with 100 percent of everything you said in this video! And BRAVO for being willing to express these concepts! I stopped buying expensive makeup in 2017, and haven't looked back. I have found my holy grail products, and rarely buy new products unless I completely finish one. The truth is, I have five grandchildren, who I LOVE buying for. They live out of town, so I send monthly care packages full of baked good, clothes, toys etc. I can honestly say, I have never been as content with my makeup collection as I am now...and ironically many of the products I use are from Elf. I knew I wouldn't like lip oils, so I never bought one (I was kind of proud of myself!) Although I still love beauty products, and enjoy watching videos....even if I am completely happy with what I currently own!
I had my a-ha moment a few days ago: i need to stop putting powder under my eyes. I never did before but this last year i was on a mission to find a powder that looks good under my eyes and i wasted so much money. I finally realized that i looked better when i wasn't using it, and for me it's not a necessary step.
I'm guilty of buying multiple lipsticks. I can't lose 20 pounds over night. I've reached detente with my hair - it is what it is. The same with clothes - I've found what works and I stick to it. But I can usually manage to splurge on a new lipstick. I love Revlon and L'Oreal. They also multi task as cream blush. I counted over Christmas, and I have about 30 at the moment. 😂
I work in a nursing home. When covid hit i stopped doing a full beat. My makeup literally had a layer of dust on it- I didn't touch alot of makeup for 2 years. When I cleared out my liquid lipsticks - my stomach turned. Hundreds of dollars, down the drain. Colors I can't get anymore. They had to be thrown away. Along with foundations and that was the shock I needed to stop buying. Ps. I remember setting sprays being huge 😊 I hardly hear anyone even use them anymore . My how times have changed.
Im on a low buy and i wont pay full price anymore for any product i wait for sales and i dont buy anything when they first come out i wait a while to see if i still want it and usually i dont lol
That’s honestly such a smart decision because I feel like more often than not, once the hype does down I’m not as interested in the newest launches too!
That is also going to be my strategy this coming year. I don't see myself needing anything until the spring sales happen, such as Ulta's Spring Haul and Sephora's VIB.
I’m on a low buy as well. Anything I need to replace, I’m trying to replace with minis. That way I can use it before it expires! Plus they’re super cute🤷♀️
You are, quite simply, the best🌟Most influencers are trying to talk people into buying, buying, buying. Conscious decisions, common sense & a reality check on what I need is my mantra for 2025. I already have a holy grail mascara~Lash (green label) Princess. There was a time when I tried more expensive options and I keep coming back to my $4.99 best for my eyes option. Essence being cruelty~free also seals the deal.🐰💞You let us know what’s out there without convincing us something is a must buy (or pushing using your link) ….your integrity shows through✨
Loving this approach and right there with you!! I just donated a bunch of makeup to my 18 year old niece and then built myself a “my foundational faves” bag with the only items I will repurchase when I run out. Everything else will get used as needed and not buying any new launches unless someone blesses me with an Ulta or Sephora GC. I’m excited to re-explore from my current collection.
I tried a few luxury brands this past black Friday (Armani, YSL, Gucci), and they just weren't special enough to justify them. And I definitely agree that I have a dozen of everything, and once the holiday sales fizzle out, it's a no-buy for at least a few months and let the wishlist grow (honestly, after awhile to itch to buy the products usually passes anyway). In the meantime, I'll make tackle my student loans 💪.
I love their dupes. I will never buy CT on my fixed income. But elf and NYX are staples. If someone asks about a wish list, I will mention CT, but it's not in my budget.
@ I like that there are options for people need/want them, but so much of what they do is unoriginal now. I would just like to see them do something of their own.
I think you had a camera in my house and watched me for the past year! Lol! Seriously though, I have said the same thing about what you said in this video almost word for word , to my friends and family!! Wow! Anyway, I agree 100% regarding waste and I've done a lot of what you mentioned in this video, this year and it was hard to do but when I look back, I am glad that I did. It's almost like a diet...you want what you want so bad right then and there but when you choose and decide not to eat it, then you look back and see the results and glad that you didn't do it and you then feel better about yourself. Do you get what I mean? So yeah, I am glad that you made this video and it reminded me again and to keep myself accountable.
My no-buy list is pretty much everything but restocks when running out (including Chanel foundation but mostly mid/drugstore for other things) - I’m over-stashed on eyeshadow, lippies, and cheek products. I figure I’ll do a giant purge of expired formulas at the end of 2025.
I’m definitely going to be on a no or low buy for makeup and most beauty products in 2025. My stash is ridiculous and I find I’m tossing too many products because I couldn’t use them before they go bad or expire. I’m also on a no buy for clothes, shoes, and purses (especially boots). I have more than I need in several years. I’m now using things until they’re used up or worn out. When I get holes in things, I’m retasking them material for crafts for my daughter and I to work on as gifts or to fulfill our need for something “new”. I’m collecting old tees to make t-shirt yarn and make a new crocheted handbag. I bought the hardware for the pattern I have in bulk (thanks Amazon lol) so we can make several! lol. My daughter also made a cool crocheted bag out of plastic grocery bags that she made into plarn and it came out so great! I was astounded at her creativity. She even made a sleeve for my work laptop and gave it to me for Christmas. 😮 That inspired me to make better use of things we have already. 😊 I’d love to save money this year as well. Can’t hurt.
You're a smart person and it shows in all your videos, especially this one. Loved it. I've mainly stayed with drugstore products or inexpensive items (like The Ordinary). Before buying anything I have to think if I will actually use it. If I can get a sample of a foundation I will prefer that knowing that I won't use the whole full size or sometimes mini. I have so many brown eyeshadows that I don't need any more. Concealers is what I think I have a lot of and still think I haven't found my HG one, so I think I have to tell myself not to buy anymore. Correctors have been tricky with me and have to tell myself not to buy any more of them. Fragrance - I only have one and I'm happy with that one.
I appreciated this video, Andrea! I do want to let you know, however, that watching and learning from you opened me up to makeup that I never would’ve tried before. I never felt comfortable walking into a Sephora, nevermind understanding what I was looking at! Thank you for educating and making me far more enlightened !
I spent 2024 looking for perfect foundation -formula and color. Needless to say, I spent way too much money on foundations that don’t work - I need to blend several together to match me. I was trying too many online, and I feel guilty for returning when they can’t sell it. I finally found my Shade and formula in store and love it! thanks for giving us such a thoughtful video!
This is a great video! Certainly gave me a lot to think about, and you make so much sense. I also fall for the terrific reviews and descriptions and feel like I just have to have it! I am also a sucker for sales. So, I got out my pen and paper and made a list of my top three favorite beauty products in each category, just like you said. I am going to stick with these favorites, not buy any new products in 2025 and use what I have. Thanks Andrea!
I am NOT going to keep buying cheaper versions of a high-end product I want. I have wasted so much money trying to find a great setting powder, or cream bronzer, when I should’ve just bought the Laura Mercier or Charlotte Tilbury, I already know I love. I’m soooo done doing that. I refuse to buy fragrances I haven’t smelled. I blind bought the Chanel No5 perfume once. I thought “oh pfff I’m sure I’ll love it! It’s an iconic perfume for a reason, I’m sure.” So I decided to treat myself to a high-end perfume, ordered it online, and hated it! It smells like an old lady perfume, and smelled awful on my skin. It smelled like bug spray on me 😂🤦🏻♀️. I will never make that expensive mistake again.
3:50 I so agree about not buying things I’m into. I bought the Elf Liquid Blush & didn’t like it at all. But everyone still kept talking about it so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. So I bought another one still didn’t like it. People kept talking about it. I bought yet another one so now I have three blushes I don’t like it all! I was able to say no to the TirTir foundation because I didn’t think I would like that type of formula but the amount of times I have second-guess myself and almost purchased is insane.
Oh my gosh I feel like I could have written this exact comment about the TirTir foundation too! It has almost pulled me in so many times too. I appreciate you sharing your experience with the elf blushes because it’s good to know it’s not just me! 😅
@ you don’t like the Elf blushes? I literally thought I was the only one!! It just sits on top of my skin, I’m way more into something that looks skin like these days.
Andrea! I have to say you are looking so incredibly glowy and shiny each and every video, but this video especially. Whatever you have been doing, it is working extremely well for you! You are looking positively STUNNING, healthy and happy! (Not that you werent before. :) )
Thank you for this video, I totally agree I have a crazy amount of makeup can’t say a no buy, but I can say it will be the lowest buy I have ever had. I need to use what I have. Take care and stay safe. Hope your Christmas went had a great Christmas and the New Year is good to your family. 💚💚💚💚
Everything you said is so true. I just had to trash so much makeup from Ulta/Walmart end of Christmas hauls. And I get so mad at myself, like girlll wtf you didn't even know all this was here...I haven't bought as much as I used to pre-pandemic. So thankfully, there aren't as many extra items hanging around anymore. I started to really try and make a conscious effort to buy from women and POC/LGBTQ owned small businesses especially if there's a sale. As opposed to Ulta too.
I love that so much! ❤️ I would love to make it a goal to support smaller business in that way too rather than only shopping larger retailers. Thank you for sharing this!
I can’t tell you how much I loved all your points!!! And, I can relate…my collection is overflowing, but I stopped wearing makeup every day during covid…now it’s just put some on if I go out or for a special occasion. Really need to do a deep declutter….maybe keep 3 or 4 products that I love in every category?
I fell into that years ago and my bathroom ended up looking like a youtuber its really ridiculous so much had to get thrown away because it was years and still couldn't use it all. I just spring cleaned and threw everything away and reorganized such a big weight lifted
All really good ideas. I need to pare down my makeup to what I really will use and get rid of the rest. I would like to do a no buy in 2025. I have enough in every category to easily last a year. Thanks for the encouragement.
So true about fragrance being very individual and needing to smell it on yourself first. I thought about buying Bianco Latte as a treat to myself after seeing so many glowing reviews across social media and got a 3ml decant. To my nose, it smells repulsively artificial. I don't even want to use that tiny decant lol
@silvercharm9507 it seems to be delightful for a lot of people! Definitely not me though. I hadn't seen anyone with a bad word to say about it either haha
100% agree with all of it! I will be losing my VIB status next year because I do not need to purchase anything. Would love to see a video of your entire collection! Have been decluttering to get my collection down to a reasonable size🤭❤
For fragrance, I will blind-buy middle eastern fragrances once I've seen/read many reviews. I have a pretty good sense of my note preferences these days, so I usually can tell if i'm not going to like something. Unfortunately, figuring out a like vs a love is a much harder task when blind buying. I don't recommend it!! 😅 With makeup, we only have 2 eyes and 1 face, so there is a limit to what you can justify buying. With fragrance, there is no limit of DNAs to smell so it is a slippery slope!
I have the same issue with fragrance. I am so picky and we have a Sephora in our Kohls with limited selection. I wish it was easy to smell/sample what I want !
I totally agree with you about buying overpriced makeup! Maybe I’m missing it, but can you do a video where you recommend products to wear for your wedding? I’m getting married in 2025 and aren’t sure what to wear makeup wise
Great concept for a video. You just keep coming up with ideas. Because of prices, I am extremely picky about my purchases. I can't believe how high lipstick is
This🙌🙌🙌This video was a must have Andréa, thank you so much!! I’m on a low buy this year, I purchased sooo many nice affordable/high-end products this year and want to use them and get my moneys worth this year coming! If we continue to buy all the new new we forget about the things we already fell in love with and want to use! So I’m taking a step back this year and really only buying what I know will add something different to my collection that I don’t already have..Again thanks so much for an awesome video😊
Love these types of videos. The only product that I cannot seem to purchase at the drugstore is foundation/tint. It seems to be such a different range of colors that I never find what I need. And I refuse to buy two of the same product to match my skin color LOL. At times I have seen that the drug store is just as much as ulta or Sephora.
This year im refusing to buy blush, highlight and eyeshadow because I have too much. I finished two blushes last year and thats a much better feeling than buying something new. ❤
I am definitely on a low buy ( only purchasing a new product after I use up a product ) and product use up for next in all categories for including skin care
I need to mention on one thing. If I buy a product that I doesn't work for me by accident, I won't buy another product to fix it as some influencers from the social media told (their purpose is just letting you spend double amount). The formula or shade doesn't work for me just means it doesn't work and I hate putting an extra, unnecessary step for my makeup. As long as this product doesn't work I will just declutter it. Also, doing that is a double waste of money.
This was a great video with a lot of good points! I’ve decided to go on a ‘no buy’ for 2025. I have more than enough makeup and skincare products (back ups not open) to make it through the year. I might even do a declutter. I especially like how you gave options that we may not have thought of for the new year. Such as; only replacing your favorites and not trying the latest concealer, foundation, etc. just replace when you run out bc you know you love it. Or don’t buy anything new in a category unless you use one up first like a blush or powder. Adding in some rules and structure going into 2025 will definitely help me to not make those impulse purchases. I’m really aiming for a no buy and I’m going to keep a journal on it. Treat myself in other ways when I don’t purchase makeup or skincare I don’t need. I hope you have a very Happy New Year!🎊🎈🎆 hugs 💖
I'm planning out my low buy for the year. I just tossed 8, yes 8 expired foundations. Along with 8 glosses...that's all I've got to for the declutter so far
You hit on many really good points. Im on a serious low buy for 2025 so i turned my no and low buy lists to my screen baackdrops as a reminder. I also created a list of products i truly love using so i can stop looking for the desk best thing and almost always being disappointed. Im also working on a list of things im getting rid of and why, so I dont rebuy them.
I have definitely gone the second route- no drugstore makeup and save for products I really covet and keep a small makeup bag. I don’t need variety, I want dependable reliable products which come in my exact shade that I can get a sample made and confirm is the right shade for me!
I'm only allowing myself to spend more on complexion products because I can't find anything that matches my tan skin with a neutral, leaning, cool olive undertone. And even for those complexion products, I'll wait for at least 30% sale the pull the trigger. Everything else is drugstore because I don't see the point of splurging. And this is coming from someone who had the chance to try a lot of luxury brands for years. I loved a lot of products from Lancome and Chanel but I don't really miss them 🤷♀️ For example, I still love the Hypnose mascara from Lancome but not as much as my holy grail lengthening mascara from Kiko 😅
I’ve found that I enjoy more “high-end” makeup tools, like BK Beauty brushes, but I use more drugstore makeup. At least brushes can be used for a long time if you care for them!
Excellent points! I have certain items I am not buying; liquid lipsticks, liquid bronzers, liquid highlighters, face primers, liquid eyeshadows, eyeshadow sticks. These don’t usually work for me so why keep trying them? Also, I cut back a lot this year, but plan to scale back even more in 2025. Prices are out of control regardless of price category. *Also, for me, why keep buying drugstore eyeshadow when I mostly just want to wear Natasha Denona, Huda, ABH and Viseart. Those are the brands with big dips, so there’s no point for me to buy drugstore when I won’t wear them.
I now have college age sons so I stopped buying so much viral make up and palettes lol. I still splurge on philosophy and dermalogica. I’m so outnumbered at home and it’s nice to see my other palettes are being used up. Love your honesty!
Totally agree with you. I need to stop buying or limit my buying in 2025. . . .and this would be for most categories. I think a lot of us have FOMO which causes us to purchase “the next best thing” or so we’re told when in reality we did not need another one of that product. I cannot buy a fragrance without smelling it first. I did try that a month ago and ended up returning it as it just wasn’t for me. So, thank you for this reminder to stop buying unnecessary makeup products. Have a wonderful New Year. . . See you in 2025! 😍 One last thing, for all of the high end mascaras I bought this year (and there were at least 10), my favorites and most used are the ones I purchased from the drug store. . . .go figure. . .😂
Yes omg!! Your one of the only influencers who mentioned that makeup actually expires. Influencers use makeup that is 10 years old which is idk almost dangerous. Sure nothing happens to them but it could!
I’ve given up on perfume I haven’t smelled beforehand. Yes, there are some notes that I love, like tea. But I’ve purchased a fragrance and I loved every single note and then HATED the actual perfume. My favorite perfume ever is Repetto, it’s a ballet/dance brand, and I wouldn’t have thought I would’ve liked it based on the notes and it’s perfect.
Yes! That is so accurate. Sometimes reading through the list of notes, I think there’s no way I won’t love it but then it just smells terrible on me. I definitely need to stick with trying them in person first!
Loved this Andrea! Such great advice! I only use drugstore makeup, so I usually stick to my favorites. But the beauty about using drugstore products is that if you want to try a new release it doesn't cost an arm an a leg! Wonderful video! Happy new year!❤😊🎉
I'm on a no buy year too, I've never finished any of a product. I have more than enough already and really need to declutter the product I don't like, use or is too old
I love that your reviews focus more on lower priced makeup and skin care. I’ve stopped watching influencers that only include high end products in their videos. I’m always susceptible to trying a favorably reviewed drugstore foundation or tint even though I already have some I love but I’ve returned more than I’ve kept. I really didn’t like the Elf Soft Glam most influencers rave about. Blush is my major buying weakness. I already have many that I’ll never use up but drugstore blushes are so good! I would say finding truly non-smudge mascara at any price is my biggest makeup challenge. Even some tubing mascaras flake & smudge on my droopy oily eyelids regardless of lid prep. So frustrating. Lip products are also frustrating for me. I have a hard time finding shades that suit me and formulas that stay on for a few hours without drying my lips. Lip oils are useless. The only makeup product I’m not interested in buying anymore is eyeshadow palettes. A neutral palette, a green one and a violet one is all I want and will ever use.
I'm sure I have 2+ years of base products, blushes and eye makeup. the only categories I'll need to buy in 2025-26 are loose powder and brow pencil. I've never given a thought to liquid blush, bronzer, liner, and lip oils. But I do own the obligatory light blue shimmer eye shadow..... just in case I get invited to an 80s party. 🙂
Vera Wang princess is one of my signature scents, and I've noticed the kayali vanilla coco smells exactly like it. It was a gift(kayali), and I'm so glad it was the travel size cuz I already have the Vera Wang in the full size. I use probably less than 10 scents a year, sometimes more, but I ALWAYS use my Vera cuz it's so good. May God bless 💙💙
It’s the best when you find a staple scent like that because you know you always have your go-to! 🙌 I really like Kayali but I feel like so many of their scents end up smelling so similar!
Yes when I found your channel, you showed me that I CAN have beautiful makeup at affordable prices. I BARELY buy high end products now, and I’m so grateful!
I feel the same way with fragrances!! I need to smell it first to see if I like it. I had a couple of fails and then I have to wear a fragrance I don’t like just because I feel guilty on throwing money out
I definitely understand! I should probably go through and declutter my fragrances, but I feel bad getting rid of them, which is weird because it doesn’t happen to me with makeup. 😭
I agree with you as it relates to the purchasing of fragrance because I can't buy any perfume without smelling it, because I have migraine and its a big trigger for it. It has to be a very mild scent for me.
Well said, Andréa! You are inspirational about your goals. I plan to adopt them as well. I do need to stop buying lipsticks, it is my downfall. As you say, use what you have before buying new products. Find ways to combine products to achieve the result you want. Stick with your holy grails. This was a good wakeup call.
@@susanpetrella3413 Years ago, everyone was raving about Prada Candy saying how sweet it smells and that it does smell like candy. Bought it, put it on. I must have weird body chemistry because it smells like old lady perfume on me.
I'm right there with you on the liquid bronzer. I've tried so many and don't like any of them. This year when elf came out with their newest liquid bronzer I just skipped it.
Your perfume comments are so right about smelling and trying. I go into Ulta and Sephora and smell perfumes in the bottle and then spray the one I am the most interested in on myself to wear for the day. Sometimes 2 hours after putting on a scent I love I have a sneezing fit, was it the scent of was it something else. Then I know I need to try again. Or in one case everybody and their brother recommended Flower Bomb to me because I like warm florals, so I went and smelled it and I nearly gagged, it smells identical to a cheap Coty scent that was very popular when I was in middle school and girls would drown themselves in it to the point it gave me headaches if I sat to close to them in class. Had I blind bought that I would have had a very very expensive migraine in bottle scent.
Just came across your video and I absolutely agree with you. We are consuming so much and it is time to slow down, appreciate and use up what we've got! For me 2025 is a no make up buy year. I started off with not purchasing a 2024 beauty advent calendar. And I had no regrets 😂
Very nice content and topic, thank you and happy new year. Bout perfume, I live in France and even now I am far from Paris, there is still a baby sephora with ok plus selection. I always make sure to test the perfume I have my eyes on, early enough in the morning so I can see the change of notes and duration. From time to time I go to test different and finally buy the one I adore when there is promo😂😂😂
I really love this concept !! I feel I could stop in some things but I have the same feeling “ I should get this to review for my channels etc “ 😅 but I do think there’s a way to review things for content and cut back on other things
I don’t love having a ton of different perfumes either! I have my signature scent and one other scent that I wear for special occasions, and I’m more than happy with that!
I love every video you release Andrea ! I didn't buy any eyeshadow this year and I'm happy with it. I decided to stop buying drugstore eyeshadow as I don't love them as much as high end brands like huda or Natasha or PMG. For the last 2 years I bought the sephora favorites set for lips and some vacation sets and found new favorites that i will repurchase now that I finished the small sizes. But I won't buy more sets for now. Also I won't buy any more lip balms lol. I have enough lip balm / oil/ masks to last me all year. I won't buy new foundations in 2025 even if the release breaks the internet and the stock market lol lol. 😂🎉
I mix drugstore and highend,I do spend about €50 on Chanel, Intimitable mascara as my eyes are oily on the lids and watery from staring at computers all day, only one that doesn't give me panda eyes. I had lots of gift vouchers for Cristmas. I think I bought at least 6 Nyx butta blushes, colours were so vibrant and caught my eye. I also bought the Beautyverse Love palette all in the sales though.
There really were some amazing sales over the last few months! I was able to get some of my favorite products at a discount too, which is always nice. Honestly, it really makes a difference when you find a formula that works really well for you! There are a few high-end products that I really swear by and splurge on too. 💗
@AndreaMatillano I spent a lot of money on finding the right mascara, I used to use a Max Factor before Chanel one but was discontinued 😥 so sad as that was only €12. Happy New Year, may the most you wish for be the least that you get.🩷
@Sweetpea-wc1ds I have, unfortunately, even paid for the Thrive one and Jeffrey Star to come from America to Ireland, they still bled on me. The Chanel was the goat but I make it stretch about every 7 months so then it doesn't feel too expensive, I only coat once as my natural lashes are long.
This is such a good list! I live by these consumer concepts. With that said, I'm such a sucker for makeup on clearance. Like right now there's so much being cleared out at Walmart for the new stuff coming in. Thats my biggest weakness, a bargain. Because if it doesn't work out for me, I didn't spend much. 😂 But for the most part, I'm very frugal and take my time deciding what to add to my collection. We all have SO much compared to 20 yrs ago, I remember, I'm 53.😊
I am trying to be more mindful when buying viral/newly launched products and really ask myself if any of the shades suit my preferences, rather than buying a shade that I don’t like or wouldn’t wear. I find this to be the case with cheek or lip products.
I have gone on a no buy because I want to pay all of my credit cards and actually use the collection of makeup I do have…NO BUY😂😂😂😂
That’s an amazing goal! 🙌 You will feel really satisfied!
Me too sister!!!
Same here!
@@alice_rabbit8345 i bought a mystery box once. I ended up using maybe half of it.
Advent calendars too! Such a waste
I'm with you. I got a Colourpop mystery box and it was fun but I ended up giving my niece several of the palettes because her coloring worked with them better than mine.
I never have bought and won't ever
Yep, I used to get the Allue Beauty Box and after a few months....nah, not worth it. How many black mascara and eye liners do I really need!
That’s a great strategy. Thanks for sharing!
Haha these are my favourite eyeshadow colours
I’m seeing so many videos like this. I think the consequences of hyper consumerism are hitting people hard. Influencers have to switch gears.
They won't. What do you think they get pr and paid for?!
Yes i have been seeing such videos too... Good that this realisation is global now😢
I'm old enough to have used makeup for years before social media existed.
If you like, Mac make up check out Miss Megan Robinson. She uses what she has. She has a Mac make up artist, and her pallets are well loved.
Ikr!? I'm 53 and have always used makeup, but I remember when my vanity had waaay less stuff on it!❤
@@katfayegarrett3872I've always had more lipstick than I need!
@@AndreaMatillano i totally agree with everything you said
And thank you for leaving such a kind comment! 😭 You absolutely made my day.
As someone who needs foundation and concealer shades in a desaturated cool tone, Elf products look straight up orange on me.
My skin changed from being oily to dry and flaky. The products that worked for me at 25 do not work for 39 year old me. The only drug store products that work for me now is mascara, brow gel, Fit me loose powder, and the L’Oréal skin tint. Everything else is non drugstore.
Only makeup that I plan to buy in 2025 are replacement items for my holy grails that are used up
Speaking this into existence for myself
I so agree with you on this entire list!
1. Overpriced mascara or high end products not on sale
2. I also hate liquid bronzer!
3. I have way too many blushes and lipsticks
4. I’m always let down when I stray away from my holy grail complexion products
5. I don’t think I’ve purchased a makeup set in years lol
6. I also won’t blind buy fragrances anymore
7. Ngl I was interested in that fenty gloss balm too…
That green sweatshirt looks stunning on you Andrea! The nail polish is stunning!
I have too many eyeshadow palettes. For next year I won't buy any new ones unless they are absolutely unique to my collection.
I completely agree with you!
Andrea, I appreciate the nod in the other direction that I don’t need drugstore dupes. They just disappoint me 💔
When it comes to fragrance, I use those little vials that come as a point perk, or free with purchase. My body chemistry completely changes a perfume. I have to wear for a good 3-6 hours to find out what something smells on me. Most companies and stores are happy to share one of those tiny vials.
Sephora no longer gives fragrance samples.
My how times have changed.
this was so helpful as an impulse buyer 😭😭
@living_redefined ohh minis is what I should get when they're available, especially liquid and cream products.
I would love to see Elf do ANYTHING that they don’t dupe/steal from another brand.
They do not do all dupes
I finally found my Shade and formula in store and love it!
thanks for giving us such a thoughtful video!
you and jen phelps are some of my fave creators for many of the points you discussed here. thank you for staying authentic ❤
Thank you! That means so much to me! 💗
I too prefer high end but fewer products
Thank you so much for kind comment! 🥰💗 I hope you had an amazing Christmas too!
Andrea, what's on your eyes? That shadow look is to die for - gorgeous! Great idea for a video BTW!
Interesting. Thanks for the review. Everyone makes it sound amazing
@lisapetitpas9476 it's been a few years since I last made Rouge, and I didn't make Diamond at Ulta this year.
I loved a lot of products from Lancome and Chanel but I don't really miss them 🤷♀️
For example, I still love the Hypnose mascara from Lancome but not as much as my holy grail lengthening mascara from Kiko 😅
I’ve found that I enjoy more “high-end” makeup tools, like BK Beauty brushes, but I use more drugstore makeup. At least brushes can be used for a long time if you care for them!
Very enjoyable and lots of good advice!
Thank so so much for talking about consumption especially in the beauty space! ❤
Advice we all needed to hear!
No buy for me from this Monday till at least the end of 2025. I did have to get a couple of things this week but that's it.
Keep me posted on how it goes! 💗
Im definitely on a no buy my skincare and makeup collection is overwhelming. My plan is to enjoy what I have and be contented. Happy new year 🎉❤
I feel the same way with fragrances!!
@@AndreaMatillano I think because most fragrances are pricey
I agree with you as it relates to the purchasing of fragrance because I can't buy any perfume without smelling it, because I have migraine and its a big trigger for it. It has to be a very mild scent for me.
Such a helpful video! THANK YOU! I love the themes, instead of just naming specific brands to ix-nay.
You are so on spot about not getting sucked into buying fragrance based on other opinions.
I have basically did a no buy in 2024. I just ordered 8 eyeshadow palettes because I received $200 in sephora gift cards for Christmas.
Love drugstore reviews and tutorials. I agree, I don’t like high priced products if I can get similar products at drugstore.
Did you do a video on the makeup you are wearing now? It looks beautiful
I really love this concept !! I feel I could stop in some things but I have the same feeling “ I should get this to review for my channels etc “ 😅 but I do think there’s a way to review things for content and cut back on other things
I am also the same with holiday sets if there’s a shade or two that I won’t wear I won’t get it 😂
I don’t love having a ton of different perfumes either!
Hi. You should try tubing mascaras, as they don’t smudge. Since I discovered them I refuse to buy regular mascaras. :)
Yes! That is something I need to work on too, especially when it comes to blushes.
