Cy Coleman's (the composer's) and Carolyn Leigh's (the lyricist's) magnificent song "The Best is Yet to Come" was so important to Frank Sinatra and indelibly associated with him, that this song title appears on his gravestone, just above his name, Francis Albert Sinatra.
Cy Coleman was a fabulous music composer & his collaboration with Carolyn Leigh & Dorothy Fields created many of the gold nuggets in The Great American Songbook, "Witchcraft" alone... Cy Coleman-music Carolyn Leigh-lyrics is a Rembrandt
Hef with pipe in mouth, cool piano player/singer, the incomparable jazz trumpet of Charlie Shavers, all of them surrounded by beautiful, elegant women. (shivers with delight!)
Out of the tree of life I just picked me a plum You came along and everything's startin' to hum Still, it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come Best is yet to come and babe, won't that be fine? You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine A-wait till the warm-up's underway Wait till our lips have met And wait till you see that sunshine day You ain't seen nothin' yet The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine? Best is yet to come, come the day you're mine Come the day you're mine I'm gonna teach you to fly We've only tasted the wine We're gonna drain the cup dry Wait till your charms are right for these arms to surround You think you've flown before, but baby, you ain't left the ground A-wait till you're locked in my embrace Wait till I draw you near A-wait till you see that sunshine place Ain't nothin' like it here The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine? The best is yet to come, come the day you're mine Come the day you're mine And you're gonna be mine
One of the greatest popular songs ever written, here being debuted by the composer himself. I'd rather have this than film of Lincoln delivering The Gettysburg Address.
THANK YOU! This is so great. I love how his voice slightly cracks (2:26) at the end and his adorable reaction to it!! What a great recording. Can you even imagine standing right next to him during this?
Star Trek used this song I wanna say in their final episode in a Nightclub scene-setting with James Darren singing along with one of the cast members & It's Sweet if you haven't seen it...
What an incredible composer Cy Coleman was. He was almost the only jazz-informed Broadway songwriter. There wasn’t a style he couldn’t write in.
God, this man is so incredibly charming.
This theme is part of Song History.

It was also the last song he performed publicly, at a party in late 1995.

How wonderful to hear this directly from the lips of the composer himself! Cy is a mighty fine singer, too. What a lovely surprise. Thanks, TH-cam!
'Yes, Cy Coleman was a very talented Cat... and, My 1st time hearing Cy live as well... 'Nice!
Fred Chapman, Carolyn Lee wrote the words.
@@imonthebox1148 That's right, thanks! I edited my comment for clarity: Cy Coleman composed the music, but he did not write the lyrics.
@@fred.chapman , Correct..

Quite artificial. Everybody is trying hard to look good while appearang nonchalant. But the performance is good.
@@thomasfink2385 , they're too dumb to realize they're the first non musicians to hear one of the greatest American popular songs ever written.

As relaxed as you can be with that school master looking over his shoulder.

Colorado Views, This is not a tune, its a song.

Can anybody identify the trio? Monty Budwig on bass, maybe? I'm just guessing.
Hugh Hefner had good taste in music.

Hefner sponsored the Hollywood Bowl Playboy Jazz Festival for yrs held in Mid-June which I rarely missed as it was a Jazz Kicker!
@afinkeln That's how many O's they each got that night ;)
Carolyn Leigh wrote the lyrics. Cy Coleman wrote the music
Yes indeed!
But who’s the trumpet player?
Somebody said Charlie Shavers. I thought it might be Harry "Sweets" Edison.
Cy wrote this too?
Tree. Dirt. Road.
gosh this is good.
