AWESOME!! I have been there a couple of times. Everyone should visit- too much history to not be on people's 'bucket list'. If you do not get 'goose bumps' when you stand on the battlefield- you have missed the point of going there.

some of the best reasons to own a bike is taking it on day trips and finding roads and spots that you would not normally follow. there is so much history in the maryland area. (glen burnie, not withstanding lol)
I was born and raised in central PA and spent my childhood summers (a LONG time ago) in Glen Burnie with my aunt and uncle. My uncle was a Baltimore City Police Officer back then (50’s and 60’s) and I enjoyed many interesting things because of him😉. Had many overnight camp outs out of the back of his big old Chrysler station wagons fishing at Ft. McHenry getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. Been to Gettysburg many times growing up on school trips and summer family trips and didn’t really appreciate the importance of it in our history. Thanks Meg for another wonderful video and the recalled memories of my earlier life!
that is the ONE ride I want to do.....I am going to do Saratoga battlefield first, which is the Revolutionary War., and in my back yard, here in Upstate NY....haven't been there since I was a tyke, and don't remember a lot...I may incorporate Fort Orange into the trip, which is in Lake George, NY....next year I want to plan a camping trip to Gettysburg for the Civil War experience.....I have NEVER been there, and have always wanted to...in the worst way.....
Meg, I love to explore and see things when I am riding that I have overlooked before. Yorktown and Williamsburg in Va are both great spots. If you ever decide to explore the Va Beach area let me know and I will point you to some great things to see.The freedom that I feel when I ride is just amazing. You look more and more comfortable on your bike and it is great to see. Keep up the great work and as always ride safe!!
We used to ski at Montage Mountain in Pa. ( I think it is called something else now) when we lived in NJ. We also skied at Big Bear and Jack Frost. I remember when I learned and there is always those people that stand at the bottom of the hill. So I am barreling down the hill with my 275 pounds of muscle (320 when bulking) body and I was a beginner and ran this poor petite woman over ! I thought I killed the poor lady. Good thing she was ok !!!!!!!
I believe General Pickett’s troops were hit hard there. The fence in your video reminded me of that because he used fences to slow the North which is why the fence is named after him. I always tell my Wife I am full of useless knowledge ‘ The ghosts of the dead soldiers were pushing you and cameraman. You on the handstands and Him with his ankle !
Thank you both again and good to see Your friend Doug go along ,nice motorcycle!!! It’s all very relaxing 😎 to watch .yes great handstands still smiling 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂Can’t help it.Thank you again, nice to see new places for me,look forward for your new video Take care lots love
@@megsmotorcyclejourney If you do not already, then take a good brand of Turmeric every day. It may take a few weeks for full effect. One of these days I need to make it to Gettysburg. Thanks for taking us along.
The the blue-ish-green cannons are made of bronze and are not painted, they have a smooth boor and shoot a ball, the black ones ore are actually a gun with a rifled barrel a shoot a “bullet” and are very accurate, these are painted black because they are made of cast iron alloy which will rust. Thanks for the ride to and through Gettysburg!👍🏻
Yep, the blue - green color is tarnished bronze. Loved the video. Been to Gettysburg multiple times. Looking forward to the PA Grand Canyon video too. I used to work in Wellsboro. Beautiful little town and the Grand Canyon is a cool place. Keep up the good work!
Meg some of the cannons are bluish-green due to being bronze at the time of the battle. And just like the Statue of Liberty, the bronze oxidizes over time, cause it to turn green. Great videos, keep 'em coming!! Ride safe, and keep the shiny side up!! I'll see you at OC bike week in September!!
Very nice! The ride to Gettysburg is a nice one. I have done it a few times. Southern Maryland is nice as well to get lost on the country roads. To add comment to some of your other videos, I took the MSF course through Rommel Harley Davidson in Annapolis. I don't ride a Harley but the course and instructor was top notch. There were only 2 of us enrolled in the class to run in Nov of 2019, just before Thanksgiving and they initially cancelled it. They called back within an hour or so and said they would run it for us. Great course, awesome instructor and loads of ride time and personal attention. A Harley may be in my future but right now it is either my restored 1984 Honda VF 700 F Interceptor or the 2013 Honda VFR 1200 F. I had an 84 750 Interceptor back in the day when I was in the Marine Corps. Sold it after leaving active duty and moving here. Fast forward 30 years, I found the 700 up in PA and had to have it. Just recently bought the VFR 1200 and absolutely love that machine. My bro in law and riding buddy rides a Harley. We get along great...no judgments. Anyone on two wheels is family!! Great to see local riders telling their story. I'm in AA County so getting out of suburbia takes a little highway in each direction. It would be cool to roll with you and camerman some time. Ride safe!
Congratulations to your Sister on her book publication Meg! Awesome! Thank you for this historic ride and a little hand stand fun as you call it. Loved it! I had thought maybe you would use the top of the cannon for a balance beam when camera man was suggesting it. :) I know you have great balance but when you were on top of that tower......I could not wait until came down. Thanks again for a very nice ride. :)
The blue cannons were actually brass cannon and over time they have oxidized. Brass cannon also shot smooth projectile as they where a smooth boar barrel. The black cannons had riffling which shot different types of bullets like a common day rifle would shoot,
your comment on the blue canons : I saw two as you passed by ,they are that color because they made out of bronze not steal ,so they turn that color blueish / green , great ! video I have wanted to go there since I was a kid ,hopefully I will get to .
Megs, Will you look into coming up to Wildwood NJ, there is Roar to the Shore. Of course last year was a mess. Let us know if you can make it & maybe you can do a meet & greet! You really improved your riding skills & video production!
Nice Video nice ride! I got 2 C myself riding on camera once. If police dashcam in court counts. Along with words of wisdom 5 words to avoid hearing Will the defendant please rise.
Until moving south, we took daytrips to the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland. (Not Ocean City) Such as Blackwater Wildlife Refuge and Oxford. There is a restaurant in Fishing Creek (Hooper's Island) called Old Salty's where the Bay seafood is brought directly from the boats. The roads have turns, the traffic is nearly non-existent and the people I have met were friendly. Southern Maryland has more people and traffic, but NOTHING like the Baltimore-Annapolis-Washington metroplex.
I’m just guessing but I’m thinking that the blue cannons are the north and the gray would be the south. They’re probably pointing in the direction that they would have been during the war but this is all just a guess
I don't know if anyone answered your question about the blue cannons Meg, so I'll try. The blue ones, are older cannons, and they're made of bronze. The blueish green is oxidation, it's just what happens over time to bronze, if you don't polish it. The black ones, aren't as old, they're made of iron, and they're actually called guns, because they're rifled. The older bronze cannons are smooth bore. I doubt you were losing any sleep over this, but it is interesting to know. I am loving your videos, thanks for sharing
At one time one of the licensed guides would take people on motorcycle tours of the battlefield. If you have never taken a tour with one of the guides you are missing out! They have to go through a licensing process that is almost as difficult as passing the bar exam.
Meg you need to invest in Custom Dynamic LED signal/running lights for at least the rear of your bike ASAP. In this video the visibility of your bike from the rear seems to be totally inadequate. Of course it could be just the video. I'm sure they are available for your front signals also and they would help both your being seen and your night driving capability. JMO
UK steve .great video as I from England still a cool place to visit Hooe the cameraman is OK.did a great job keeping up with you meg who is super fit lady great handstand 👍👍👍
Some of the cannons are a blueish / green color because they were made out of bronze. The color is the oxidation that occurs over the years being exposed to it's elements.

Yes! Looking forward to meeting a bunch of folks! 🙂
that is the ONE ride I want to do.....I am going to do Saratoga battlefield first, which is the Revolutionary War., and in my back yard, here in Upstate NY....haven't been there since I was a tyke, and don't remember a lot...I may incorporate Fort Orange into the trip, which is in Lake George, NY....next year I want to plan a camping trip to Gettysburg for the Civil War experience.....I have NEVER been there, and have always wanted to...in the worst way.....
You should come! Maybe during bike week?
Meg,
I love to explore and see things when I am riding that I have overlooked before.
Thank you! I appreciate the kind observations. You ride safe as well.
Uh oh- glad it turned out ok. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely video Meg, I know about Gettysburg but have never seen anything of it, thank you for the insight and footage of it .....👍🇬🇧
You are very welcome. Thank you for watching!
Hahaha- they didn’t appreciate us. Thank you for the info and for watching.
Aww I appreciate the kind words. Thank you for watching.
Great video, thanks for sharing Meg
Thank you for watching!
Great video!!! Really cool day trip 🤗
Aww thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I remember being able to do a handstand 45 years ago!!
Hahaha. My body is not what is used to be either- my knees are always in pain. Ugh
Thanks for the information and for watching! Appreciate it
Yep, the blue - green color is tarnished bronze. Loved the video. Been to Gettysburg multiple times. Looking forward to the PA Grand Canyon video too. I used to work in Wellsboro. Beautiful little town and the Grand Canyon is a cool place. Keep up the good work!
I've been getting used to the Harley-Davidson app, similar to Google maps . I like it.
Interesting. I didn’t know there was one. I’ll check it out.
Hey Megs cool run out seen some nice lookin places there ,there is an app we use here don't know if it is in the U.S it's called Calimoto . Cheers : )
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check it out.
We do Gettysburg Bike Week every July, its awesome!. If you havent been try it!
When you do the ride north to the P.A.canyon go toward Coudersport,Take Route 44 back south it is a awesome ride through the hills.VERY SCENIC!
We rode 44, it was awesome!!
Ride safe!
You should follow my Instagram page because I’ll be posting information on rides there. 🙂
Thank you! Good to know!
The black cannons had riffling which shot different types of bullets like a common day rifle would shoot,
Thank you for the explanation and for watching!
your comment on the blue canons : I saw two as you passed by ,they are that color because they made out of bronze not steal ,so they turn that color blueish / green , great ! video I have wanted to go there since I was a kid ,hopefully I will get to .
You should absolutely go! It’s really cool. Thank you!
Megs, Will you look into coming up to Wildwood NJ, there is Roar to the Shore. Of course last year was a mess. Let us know if you can make it & maybe you can do a meet & greet! You really improved your riding skills & video production!
Aww thank you! When is it?
@@megsmotorcyclejourney The Roar the the Shore in Wildwood NJ is usually in early September. Hope you consider it!
Nice Video nice ride! I got 2 C myself riding on camera once. If police dashcam in court counts. Along with words of wisdom 5 words to avoid hearing Will the defendant please rise.
Hahaha. Always good to avoid those words.
The blue guns are brass. It's oxide.
Ahh thank you! Mystery solved. 🙂
Do you have any plans to attend the Milwaukee Rally?
Not this year. Maybe next year.
I could be wrong but I believe that was the bloodiest battle of The Civil War !
I think so.
Some of those are great day trips! Thank you for watching.
Where did you get your riding pants at, the leather ones and these?
The leather ones are from Wilson’s the pleather leggings are from Amazon.
@@megsmotorcyclejourney so then neither have riding protection like reinforcement in the knees or hips. Is that correct?
I’m just guessing but I’m thinking that the blue cannons are the north and the gray would be the south. They’re probably pointing in the direction that they would have been during the war but this is all just a guess
I love Gettysburg, such a beautiful place!
Another good video. Well done 🤘
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow must be tough because the bar is no joke. Very cool! Thank you for the information
JMO
Thank you! Others have said that so I’ll look into it.
UK steve .great video as I from England still a cool place to visit Hooe the cameraman is OK.did a great job keeping up with you meg who is super fit lady great handstand 👍👍👍
Aww thank you! He is doing better now. We appreciate you watching!
The harley app is pretty good. You have to tell it to avoid hyways and it will put you down some really great back roads
I had no idea there was one! Thank you.
Thanks Meg love your video never been their some day I will ride from Oklahoma some day.
You should! Thank you for watching.
Great video, I like your destination videos. Stay safe!
Thank you! Oddly, they don’t seem to do as well. I prefer them to install videos too. Appreciate you watching!
Some of the cannons are a blueish / green color because they were made out of bronze. The color is the oxidation that occurs over the years being exposed to it's elements.
Pretty cool video and yes so ready for warm weather also been crazy here in upstate NY
Me too! I rode in the snow yesterday.
I may not be a history buff but I can tell you I'm a MEG BUFF, lol Best line I've heard from Cameraman as he was following you up the staircase "It's tight in here" lol Have a great week guys and Cameraman hope your ankle heals quickly!!
Aww thank you for your support! We appreciate you watching and are glad you enjoy the content.
Love it, still a kid at heart.
Yes! If not, life is no fun.
10:19 Nothing wrong with a little finger action.
Harley Davidson has a route planning app also.
I really enjoy your videos, thanks for taking the time to make them.
Aww thank you! I appreciate that you take the time to watch.
Do you need a substitute cameraman... or stunt double. 😂
Yes very tight up that staircase 🙃
Glad to see great history, and of course a handstand or two ...
Hope the ankle is better soon Cameraman ... kudos to you for your fine work 🤩
Hahaha. He is healing nicely- I won’t be needing a substitute. Thank you for watching!
Must be nice to have someone to ride with I wouldn’t know always looking for someone to ride with
I’m fortunate to have such a great network of lifelong friends. I never forget it and try to always let them know how much I appreciate it.
@@megsmotorcyclejourney I have had trouble all my life finding friends or making friends I thought getting a bike would help but so far nothing yet maybe 1 day never say never
@@Recycledhooligan have you tried joining local groups of riders?
@@megsmotorcyclejourney I know people who ride but they don’t want me to ride with them as I’m a new rider, I ask them if they’d introduce me to riders they ride with & they just tell me no I have I’ve heard about apps & things for other riders, but if I’m riding alone & I see other riders they also never ask me to join so In my mind if they don’t ask I usually don’t I thought motorcycling was this big community But I’ve not found my place in it yet thanks for all your suggestions & replies
Weathered brass cannons.
Ahh thank you for the explanation!
Good job with the hand stand!
Haha. Thank you!
Meg I've noticed on a few of your videos that the tail light on your bike seems to be quite dim. Now it could just be the angle or the video quality. Sorry but, now that is come to my attention I just can't seem to "not notice."
Love your content and love watching your Journey. Stay safe!
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll look into it.
most people don’t realize the size of the battle of Gettysburg.
It was absolutely huge it devastated the whole area.
Cool video too bad the sun didn’t shine for you guys.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate you watching!
I grew up in the area of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
Professional hand stander lol... heading down in August on the bike
Looks like a super cool place to visit. 🤓 Stay safe 💙
It is! Thank you. You as well!
Nice ride through. I have to make it a part of my bike outings. Nice Handstand, bravo!!! Looks like you are dangerous to be around...Watch out Cameraman, I foresee more injuries in your future...LOL!!
Hahaha. We’ve know each other most of our lives and I haven’t injured him that often. Lol
🛑🛑 The most “erie area” that I have found at Gettysburg when visiting, is the Dedication Area, when all the surviving soldiers and sitting in attendance in the uniforms together; years after battle.
Its an amazing area!!💯
I’ll have to check that out next time.
Hello Meg i have been to Gettysburg a few times my self love it! So you are a PA girl? Have you ever heard about thunder in the valley? Amazing video as always thanks for taking us along please keep up the awesome work ❤😘
I’m an MD girl who enjoyed PA rides. I have heard about it but haven’t gone there yet.
Megs, That was a great adventure! I like the interaction with Cameraman & Doug. How long a ride was it from your home? Are you going to Harley Davidson open house in York? it is usually in September. Love you!
I’m not sure if I’ll be there. It’s about an hour and 10 mins from my house- only 30 from Cameraman and Doug
I don't know, hand stands and "jump on a cannon", a Civil war cannon, place where thousands died..? I would recommend the Flight 93 crash sight for a visit, but please no hand-stands.
We went last year and it was awesome. Sorry if you felt we were disrespectful, that wasn’t the intent.
The Blue cannons are made of Bronze , that have tarnished 🙏😎
