Howard Wimshurst Dude! 1st of all you actually watched my video. 2nd of all you actually commented. 3rd of all the video was actually helpful. Praise the Lord, this is so cool! Thank you for subscribing! I'm planning to make more time for TH-cam this year so hopefully I'll get better at this TH-cam thing! 🎉
Exactly! My film school here in Ghana do not take animation as SERIOUSLY as Gobelins. Live-action always seems to take priority over animation. 😢 Finished my diploma course last 2 years
This is so inspiring. I, too, have recently been interested in having a career in animation. I have yet to know where to start. I'm with Howard on this, this is really good. Subscribed, as well!
I got into the summer programme in 2015! I know what you mean by taking so seriously it changed the way I viewed everything in my future! I’m now in uni for animation with a scholarship 🥰 honestly the experience changes you
Congratulations! Yeah Gobelins opened my eyes. Even just being around people from the around the world who love animation just as much as I do is also eye opening!
Thank you for this! i'm so glad i stumbled onto this video because i'm also a South African, i completed my 3rd year in motion design and animation at SAE institue in Cape Town and i was supposed have my graduation this year but you know... 2020 is a movie 😅 i'm part of SAE's 1st group of students to graduate with a degree in animation but to be honest the degree course was quite dysfunctional ill managed most of the the time. i believe i'm experiencing a similar dilemma that you experienced coming from a school that focused on some courses more than others, and given that animation was and is still new to SAE Cape Town, its no surprise that its 1st few graduates will suffer. its awesome to see another South African animator make it to Gobelins! i've always wanted to study there as well and a hope ill get the chance sometime in the near future. Wish you nothing but the best on your art journey. Subscribed!
Oh, wow Immanuel, thanks for the comment. I'm glad my video was useful in some way. You know what, I honestly think our ability to endure in this industry, and dare I say succeed, will come from having survived dysfunctional animation courses 😅😅. Congratulations on graduating regardless of the COVID-19 lockdown
Fellow South African here 😁. My university didn't take animation seriously too. Gobelins was also on my mind, maybe someday I may get myself in. Anyway, I wish you good luck with your animation journey. Thank you for this informative vid. Subbed 🤞🏾
@@CabblowStudios Unisa . They have a multimedia arts programme. I should have known nothing technical would be taught at all. But it's ok. I've been self learning the whole time.
Hi, I admire your content. I have a question about the color theory at Gobelins. The color palettes are consistently amazing and I'm wondering who teaches that. Or if you have anyone I can look to for reference?
Hi! I'm not sure who teaches colour theory, but Cecil Blondel is the director of International Relations at the school and very active on Instagram. Here's her IG instagram.com/cecile.blondel. She might be able to help you find who you're looking for.
Hi! I reccomend asking for suggested accommodation from Gobelins directly. During the summer school they gave an option for international students to stay at the University of Paris, which is where I stayed. Not sure if that option is still there so it's worth asking the school directly for reccomendations.
Hi! You don't need to speak French to attend the Summer school. It is offered in English. They also have a 2-year Masters program offered in English. Their other courses are in French. Don't hesitate! Just apply you never know what might happen.
I don't think there's an age limit. One of my classmates at the time was in his 40s, I think. Maybe there's an age limit for their other programmes, but I don't remember there being a limit for the summer school 👍🏾👍🏾
Hii💛 Did you go there for only one summer or did u go every summer for three years? Do you get some kind of diploma for finishing a summer class there?
Hi! Thanks for the Q. I went there once in 2016. The programme has a new batch of students every year. You get a certificate of completion, but it is not a formal qualification. Regardless I've found that the Gobelins name is well received when speaking with potential employers or clients. So that's good 👌🏾
Hi, that's not stupid at all. The summer school was completely in English. And I was able to travel with public transportation without knowing French, but it might've helped during the one time I got lost 😅😅. Although it's a French school they do have a few courses in English
i know this is a few years ago now, but if you can still remember, i was wondering the age range of people attending? i'm not sure if it'll be possible for me, but i'm hoping when i graduate my current bachelors to try to get into gobelins masters program and i figured the summer school could be useful. but I don't wanna feel old if everyone else is 18 lmao
Hahaha it's OK, most people were in their mid-twenties or early thirties. They were either studying or about to finish. There were actually very few high schoolers. I think there were 2 senior high schoolers. I was in my final year of university doing a post-grad degree. Was I 22/23 🤷🏾♀️😅? There was also someone who was already in the industry for maybe like 5-10 years or something crazy like that. I say go for it! Don't let your age make you hesitate. It's still one of the best things I could've ever done so many years later.
Hi, my name is Harsh, I am from India. I really wanna know how can I apply for Gobelins college and which level of portfolio is required to get admission.
Hi Harsh, it really depends on which course you're interested in. I did their Advanced Character Animation Summer school, but they also have many other courses in English and in French: Bachelor's and Master degrees, short courses, online courses and summer schools. This is their English website: www.gobelins-school.com/ Hope this helps 👍🏾
this was so good! It has always been a mystery to me what it is like at Gobelins. Subscribed!
