    Absolutely the best Janome 500e video I've watched since purchasing my machine two years ago. I learned soooo much in that 28:13 minutes. It's the information for sure, but it's mostly the way you explained it. Seeing is doing. Kudos! Now I will enjoy my machine So Much More!

    great video i have issues with having the big hoop but buying patterns and they are still too big for that hoop example i bought a cup carrier pattern its like 8 x 7 or so its to big for the big hoop so i can't use the pattern.

    • @janomelife

      To confirm: you have the Janome MC550E? If so, that machine’s largest hoop is 7.9 x 14.2 inches. If you rotate the design orientation you should be able to fit it into the Re36B hoop. If you do not have software you can rotate the design in, then perhaps you could contact the company from whom you bought the design and ask them to provide you with a rotated design? There may be designs which are bigger than the RE36B so check before purchasing a design. If you have the Janome AcuDesign app and an iPad, you can easily rotate and resize designs yourself. Failing that, you would need embroidery software to do this.

    Question...can you edit the flower ...ie take out a petal....or edit features

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kathy,
      You cannot edit a design like you describe on the screen of the MC550E. But this can be done in embroidery software and with our AcuDesign App. You can do quite a lot of editing on the edit screen or using the included Embroidery Editor software of the MC550E such as rotating , resizing up to 20%, adding lettering, changes colours, cornering and much more, but you cannot take apart a design such as remove a petal without digitizing software or our AcuDesign App.

      Did you follow the message: check your needle is not bent or that you don't have something stuck. Were you trying to sew something rather thick? If you checked all of this, you are going to need to contact the supplier (Feya shop) and ask them about where you need to get your machine looked at. • @janomelife
      @janomelife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vanessa, just use the little + & - signs next to that icon to get back to the number shown by the solid up arrow. That is the factory default tension setting. There really is no manual and auto tension. You have the ability to change tension as you need, which should not be too often unless you encounter poor stitching. Even then, it is much more liking to be a threading up issue or lint in a tension disc than a machine setting issue. How to adjust tension is explained in your manual.

      The fonts included on your machine may not be small enough for your needs. If you have our Artistic Digitizing Software you can size the fonts on that for your needs. Another option is to purchase a small embroidery font from a talented digitizer. You can often find these on Etsy or with a google search. Make sure any file you purchase includes the Janome JEF format. Happy Sewing!

    Can you do embroidery on a large quilted project?

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if you mean embroidered blocks on a large quilt or quilting IN THE HOOP? The answer to both is YES. You can embroider any blocks or sections of your quilt with the MC550E and then assemble your quilt top, sandwich it and quilt. The quilting can also be done IN THE HOOP but we recommend using the optional Acufil quilting kit for the 550E as the hoop with magnets has been designed specifically for this purpose,.

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      This video was more about the various features on the Mc55OE than about thread. However, when we do machine embroidery we usually use a polyester embroidery thread. We carry several brands here at Janome Canada: Janome, Madeira and Hilos Iris. All of these brands are available through our Janome and Elna dealers across Canada . Not all of them carry all of these brands so you would need to enquire.

    When I need to thread and the hoop is in the way my machine 550e only locks. It does not give me the option to move anything, so I have to take the hoop off to rethread the needle so the auto thread will work and the hoop is not in the way. Then I put hoop back on and unlock the machine. How can I set my 550e up that it works like in the video. My machine is one year old.

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan,
      You should not need to take the hoop off the machine. Press the lock icon and you should get. A message that says, hoop will move or something similar. It then moves away from the edge of the hoop so you can thread easily. If you are not getting this message, please check that you possibly did not change a setting in the SET menu? I don’t have the 550E here so cannot check but I will ask one of the educators on my team to check today. I will let you know if I discover more information.

      @janomelife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok so we have been trying all sorts of things to try to get our 550E to reproduce what you are reporting. We have one more question: is the Presser foot lifter up or down when you say you are not getting the hoop will move so you can thread message?

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maplekeepsakes yes, we are trying to establish why 2 people are reporting they are not getting the message on their screens and I am pretty sure it is because they have the Presser foot up. But these things take time and lots of back & forth - unfortunately. But thanks for your input.

      Glenda M Cone Cone yes you sure can. You can order them as a separate item from your dealer. It is to be used for most of your embroidery. I do NOT use it for quilting in the hoop with the Acufil quilting hoops. You do not need to use it for JANOME prewound bobbins but should for all bobbins you wind or other brand pre-wounds.

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you referring to the basting stitch? If so, YES, it is a feature on the MC550E - most of our current embroidery machines have this feature. Please consult your manual or your dealer for information on how to use basting. The icon is on the screen and it allows you to trace the design ( so you know where it will stitch) or do a single or a double basting with stitches once you have hooped up and are ready to embroider.

      Jump stitches are often digitized into embroidery design. If you are combining designs on the 550E itself the stitch between the designs is the jump stitch.

    • @janomelife
      @janomelife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you asking how you would embroider an appliqué in the hoop on the 550E? If so, you would follow the technique for either trim before or during the appliqué embroidery. If you buy a design online, it should come with some instructions of how to do appliqué in the hoop. And, of course, the design needs to be able to fit into the hoop - if not too big.

      Hi
      It sounds like you need to get some lessons on how to use this machine. Lessons are usually offered by the dealer who sold it to you but with the pandemic I’m not sure how that may be working wherever you are. Alternatively, you may need to search online for classes on this machine. Try the Janome websites and You Tube channels. Or you may need to look at our dealer locators on our websites and contact a dealer to ask for classes. You may have to pay for these classes. We offer online classes here in Canada. You might like to look on Janome Life blog where we recently advertised upcoming classes. Janomelife.wordpress.com. There is one on machine embroidery but it is booking up fast already. And there is another Sewing weekend retreat at the end of March ( all virtual classes one of which is a machine embroidery class which I am teaching) - check out JenniferTryon.com for information on the Homemade Virtual Event.
