Hyundai Creta Test Review

The new Hyundai Creta was launched recently (we attended the launch) and we received a full test car shortly after.
The interesting fact is that the new model is no longer sourced from the plant in India, but now comes from a brand new production facility in Indonesia instead. Apparently the Indian plant is running at full capacity supplying their local market with little extra capacity for exports.
The new car features the new Hyundai grille that is now common to Grand Creta, Santa Fe and Pallisade. The split lights with daytime running lights and headlights below also feature.
The range has been simplified and there is now only 1 engine choice offered, a 1.5l petrol delivering 84kW and 144Nm to the front wheels. The Premium spec is available in either 6 speed manual or Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). This is the Hyundai version of a CVT transmission. The top spec Executive is available in IVT only.
I found the engine and gearbox combination ideal for town driving and commuting duty. It can strain a bit more on freeways and when pushed harder. William was not as happy, but conceded that this car is aimed at urban use, so doesn't really suit his driving style.
Fuel economy for the test period was 7.0l/100km which should be achievable by most owners. I managed a far more respectable and conservative 6.5 but the overall result was affected by Leadfoot taking the car for a few days.
The interior of modern Hyundai's has become a very pleasant place to spend time. The very clean and uncluttered centre stack and instrumentation stand out. Features like inductive charging and wireless connectivity are a bonus.
With the Executive model being mechanically identical, the differences are in items like 6 airbags instead of 2, keyless entry and start, auto air conditioning instead of manual and artificial leather seats instead of the cloth in the Premium. It really is up to you and your affordability to decide if you want to pay the R40 000 difference in initial purchase price.
As tested, the current price is R429 900 including the Hyundai 7 year/ 200 000km warranty and a 4 year/ 60 000km service plan.

Creta vs sonet which would you prefer

I'm sure you are aware that they are very similar vehicles, I think it would come down to personal preference and possibly where you can get the best deal

@Iamjustkiddings , I would tend to agree with you. Creta vs Seltos and Sonet vs Venue although the do cross over in the ranges depending on model
