It's got two variants in apparently? Sorry to hear you have been poorly after that.
I was the same as you with the first 3, I didn't even know I'd had them, but the 4th made me really ill, knocked me off my feet for a couple of days. I have heard of one or two that have not been well with it. I'm ok now though and as fit as a fiddle, well nearly 🤣🤣🤣 take care, Terry.

I think I might have to turn my pond heater off this year, as it's looking like it's going to be expensive to run. I'll run it as long as I can, which will help give them a shorter winter. Hi Terry another good video and some useful tips, haven't started my winter prep yet with so many other things to do. Since I retired three years ago I've never been so busy. Garden looks very nice and the ferns look good, hope you keep well and safe.

Hi Terry, I wrap my brushes with cling film, that also works really well until the final brush clean, I hate having to put covers over my pond but it prevents some wind chill and keeps the leaves out, let’s hope for a mild winter, keep well and thanks for the update. 👍
Hi Anthony, yes, clingfilm does the same job mate. I also put my paint roller and tray in a poly bag over night, if I want it the next day, and it works a treat. It feels like I've only just taken my pond covers off, I don't know where the time goes mate. Thanks, and take care, Terry.
Hi Wrighty it all seems a bit sad when everything has to be wound down but you've done a great job on the covers and clearing your lovely garden. It's looking great. I know what you mean about keeping energy costs in check, i's going to be a lot more expensive this winter. My old aquatic shop I sold 20 years ago has finally shut down a couple of weeks back " due to high energy bills". Sad really as we started it from scratch having been an old bakery previously but it has lasted over 35 years so did well. Always look forward to the videos, take care.

Hi Terry, it only seems five minutes ago you were taking the covers off!! Your Shusui looks like it’s packed on a bit of timber this year? I always have a look as it has very similar colours to mine. Buddleia are nice but they can be a bit too vigorous in the growth sometimes, always nice to see the butterflies though. Nice update Terry best wishes

Well Winter prep had to arrive at some time. Will be interesting to see what savings are made dropping to 13 degrees. I'm turning my upflow off in the next few weeks in order to save electric. Stay safe mate

The house ASHP is not too bad, as the house is well insulated, but I don't think it's much cheaper than gas. They require very little maintenance, but they do take a bit of getting use to. Terry.
Might be wrong but thought 16 degrees was the temp to keep immune system going if you dont hold that temp might as well save money and heat to 8 degrees . Just a thought
Hi Dean, anything above 13c will keep you out of what's called aeromonas alley. anything above that is fine. Heating to 8c is dangerous, as that's right in the middle, you'd be better not heating at all mate. Thanks, Terry.
Have you ever done a cost on what your pond in total costs in electricity? I have two pond 170w/150w pumps and two air pumps plus a UV light, mine is £2 a day.
If as you say we need a cold spell to kill parasites would it be best to remove the covers altogether in January without heat to drop it below five degrees for a month, I am covered but unsheathed in November onwards
Hi Kevin, the main reason for the pond covers, is to help stop big sudden water temperature changes, as this is really not good for the koi. You could try removing the covers for a time, but will the pond temp get low enough is the big question. Most ponds only got down to 6 or 7c last year, which is not low enough mate. Thanks, Terry.
Hi Paul, I only give them a mild dose, I usually add pond salt in slowly up to around 0.25 ppt, but that will slowly become less over the winter as you do water changes, but I don't top the salt up from that. I only add it the once mate. That's just my way of doing it. Thanks, Terry.
Hi Mike, I've held off adding the Virkon, as I added the Viresco tm as it's a bacterial treatment. But once all's ok, I will use it again mate. Thanks, Terry.
@@Wrighty I'm doin one last dose end of the month , only 1 tabblet per 1000 gallon . I have had to much grief saying its basically disinfectant that will kill the filter, although it's not done any damaging effects the last few months adding 1 per 500 gallon
Hi Mike, Did you see my pinned comment on the Virkon video. From Absolute Koi. Virkon Aquatic will have an anti bacterial effect on the biological filters, however, at the dose rates suggested for normal pond conditioning, it will have no negative impact, the filter media is so rich with bacteria with an active food source that the bacteria will increase in numbers quicker than Virkon Aquatic can inhibit growth. Test have shown that if overdosing has occurred during a serious infection out break, no negative effects on the filters have been observed.
@@Wrighty yes mate, tried explaining this to some marine biologist & she was having none of it. Pretty sure virkon helped me get out of a bactarial issue I had this year as I also added salt at the same time, soon cleared it all up..

i think its been a bad year for bees to be honest. I have a Cotoneaster and every year i have lots of different bee types that come and land on the flowers this year i didnt see many at all.

Hi Dean, anything above 13c will keep you out of what's called aeromonas alley. anything above that is fine. Heating to 8c is dangerous, as that's right in the middle, you'd be better not heating at all mate. Thanks, Terry.
Have you ever done a cost on what your pond in total costs in electricity? I have two pond 170w/150w pumps and two air pumps plus a UV light, mine is £2 a day.

If as you say we need a cold spell to kill parasites would it be best to remove the covers altogether in January without heat to drop it below five degrees for a month, I am covered but unsheathed in November onwards
Hi Kevin, the main reason for the pond covers, is to help stop big sudden water temperature changes, as this is really not good for the koi. You could try removing the covers for a time, but will the pond temp get low enough is the big question. Most ponds only got down to 6 or 7c last year, which is not low enough mate. Thanks, Terry.

Hi Paul, I only give them a mild dose, I usually add pond salt in slowly up to around 0.25 ppt, but that will slowly become less over the winter as you do water changes, but I don't top the salt up from that. I only add it the once mate. That's just my way of doing it. Thanks, Terry.

@@Wrighty I'm doin one last dose end of the month , only 1 tabblet per 1000 gallon . I have had to much grief saying its basically disinfectant that will kill the filter, although it's not done any damaging effects the last few months adding 1 per 500 gallon

Virkon Aquatic will have an anti bacterial effect on the biological filters, however, at the dose rates suggested for normal pond conditioning, it will have no negative impact, the filter media is so rich with bacteria with an active food source that the bacteria will increase in numbers quicker than Virkon Aquatic can inhibit growth. Test have shown that if overdosing has occurred during a serious infection out break, no negative effects on the filters have been observed.
@@Wrighty yes mate, tried explaining this to some marine biologist & she was having none of it. Pretty sure virkon helped me get out of a bactarial issue I had this year as I also added salt at the same time, soon cleared it all up..
There are a lot of people using it on a regular basis on TH-cam, and there saying they've had no problems with it at all.

i think its been a bad year for bees to be honest. I have a Cotoneaster and every year i have lots of different bee types that come and land on the flowers this year i didnt see many at all.
