I was so impressed with the men who went out and to save a baby who was very sick they thawed a HELICOPTER OUT.
With deadly winds and snow drifts up to roofs they rescued the Baby. This Town pulled together and helped each other. God Bless Bowling Green

I was 23. I remember I was standing on top of a car and didn’t even realize it … with my two-year-old in a backpack getting ready for a hike to grocery store. Emergency vehicles only allowed on streets for quite a while. Everett Massachusetts…

I lived through that storm. I was 11 and remember opening the back door to a wall of snow. A few neighbors had purchased electric stoves/ovens and we, thankfully, had our good ol' Tappan gas range/oven with a heater on the side. Needless to say we welcomed all that needed to cook. I remember how much fun it was having sooo many people over, day and night, oil burning lamps lighting the night. As a kid the only downfall was having to make up the snow days at the end of the school year.

Soldiers from Ft. Devens, MA were also dispatched to Boston to provide aid including the 39th Combat Engineering Company with heavy equipment and components, from the 36th Medical Battalion, a Company of Military Ambulances and some Medical personnel volunteers (Medics, X-ray and Lab techs, ect) from the 46th Combat Support Hospital.

It’s ok. We all know people remember it as exceptional so something happened that the statistics don’t do justice to. I wish I could sit down and hear about things like this from those who lived it.

I was in my senior year of HS when this hit. Surreal world after with the National Guard on every street! My friends and I walked everywhere as no one was allowed to drive. Also no beer! Ha, that sold out very quickly prior to the storm hitting! Sadly, many people died either trapped in their cars on Rt 128 or as a cousin by marriage of mine died at sea attempting to aid a stricken coast guard boat.

During the blizzard of 1978 I was driving a police patrol car. I was assigned to a call along a main highway on Long Island. Suddenly visibility was gone and i could not move in fear of hitting something. After about 15 minutes, we had a sudden clearing and found that I was right about 20 feet in front of a State plow which had also stopped. Whew.

Alright, Nike Vand complains that police are patrolling to “save lives and property and enforce all laws and ordinances”. (Police sworn to do so)
If your wife or daughter is attacked and raped or murdered, he complains about any enforcement. If someone breaks into your home, the cops are liable if they lock up the criminal. Think, folks.

It's the blizzard all others are measured against. We were dismissed from highschool early that day. By the time I got home, I coul barely see the outline of my hand held out at arm's length in front of my face. I'd never heard wind like that. It sounded like a train all night long, and into the next day. It was days before the main roads were plowed out. Neighbors helped each other out. It really shook confidence that that government could help us out in a disaster. I never imagined We could feel so isolated in an urban setting. It was a real eye opener. To this day, I always make sure I have basic supplies on hand, to last several days. I also have been through a major earthquake, when I lived in California, and Hurricane Sandy in NYC, but that storm in 1978 was the worst experience, in terms of disasters, that I have been through.

I lived in Fremont Ohio we had to shut down for almost a week. (Snowbelt) area. I lived in a mobile home with no electricity living in the kitchen with a gas stove for heat. 9 months later we had our 1st child (a blizzard baby). She is now 43. Maybe I should have left that last part out. I could walk from the drift to my roof.
