I alan,I totally enjoyed watching your awesome video,it's nice to watch you on your amazing adventures along the lovely scenic canal . Definitely a brilliant way of life, for you,do what ever takes your fancy, just love your captains hat, Stay safe and bee happy,⭐️👍tony
Another relaxing and enjoyable video Alan. Thanks so much for allowing me to vicariously venture with you from Avondale, Arizona. I dream of the day when I may retire soon and join you all on the canal.
Another enjoyable vlog Alan, liked your comment about the heron I think it was. Our Pelicans pose, and love their photo being taken. Specially up on the poles on the jetty. And the minute you turn your back they do a fly around and go back to the pole. I manage to catch them at the end of their flying. Take care stay safe regards from Oz. 💙🙋♀️
Hi Kate, I do find the herons a bit of a tease. They stand dead still and when you line up your camera they fly off. I've noticed your success in getting pelican shots, there seem to be a lot of them about. All the best, take care Alan x
Another great trip. Like you standing on the bridge looking down at the canal and a CB passing underneath you, saying I will be doing that one day. Well. that's what I say every time I am on board (spiritually,) with your journeys. Take care catch you on the next one :-)
Oh Alan. Just watched your latest cruise which is as delightful as ever. Made me realise how much I am missing life on the cut during this lock down - and its only just started. Trust you are keeping safe.
Kingfisher will fly low and fast along the waterline and usually dart into the trees or bushes along the canal. They normally fly away from the boat. Last time I went to Foxton I saw quite a few including a pair who were sat on canal side as I walked towards them. Thanks for the video
Many thanks Colin, they're going to be harder to get on film than the herons, you did well to see a pair of them. I couldn't spot it in the bowcam footage. Someone mentioned a sighting of a white squirrel at Foxton. All the best Alan
I 'often' trot around a local lake here in Denver, Colorado. The behavior of the blue herons is the same. Just consider them your personal Heralds, flown a bit ahead, to forewarn All of your majestic approach.
Pretty sure that was a Kingfisher Alan your description matches the criteria in my bird book so you can tick the kingfisher box .Nice vlog Alan getting cooler here had a few days of Indian summer but now were getting frosts more often. Take care see you soon Cheers from Canada
Hi Ralph, thanks it seems pretty certain it was a Kingfisher. I couldn't see it on the bowcam. Our weather is turning for the worse, had some very wet and windy nights recently. It's miserable as I write this. All the very best, keep safe Alan
Hi Alan. Was visiting Foxton yesterday and there was a group of people who had seen an "Albino" squirrel in the bushes at your winding point at the Top of Foxton Locks.
Another lovely vlog Alan, and I must congratulate you on those little clips that you slot in just before the main body of the video.. Beautiful clips, so nicely photographed / filmed. Congratulations on having seen your first Kingfisher... definitely what you saw. Cheers again Alan and many thanks.. 🍷🍷
Thanks Steve, very kind of you to say. I think saw is probably too strong a word, it was a mere glimpse, as it flashed by, I couldn't pick it out on the bowcam footage. Cheers, take care.
It's difficult to keep a fresh supply of cheese topped rolls always available, sometimes have to cope with something else. Take care, all the best Alan
Another great vlog Alan. Nice to see the scenery from a different angle going the other way. We are lucky at the moment as we are not in lock down unlike yourselves. Stay safe and keep well, looking forward to your next vlog.
Lovely Vlog Alan. So soothing listening to you and watching the boat travel smoothly along the canal. Please take care of yourself during these horrible times. Bye for now. Stephen.
Many thanks Stephen for supporting my channel. I hope you're keeping well and that lockdown doesn't cause you too many difficulties. Take care. All the very best Alan
Flash of blue = kingfisher. They tend to have regular fishing posts so it's usually best if you can catch them there. Hope you're set safe at your permanent mooring and can sit out Lockdown 2 there. But please keep on publishing vlogs. All the best.
Hi Philip, yes I'm pretty certain that's what it was. I'm in the marina sitting out lockdown, there is one more video in this series and then I have another quick trip to edit and publish. Take care, cheers.
Another nice one Alan, I was pleased to see `Gabriel Oak passing you. My boat is called Bathsheba, both boats named after Thomas Hardy's far From The Madding Crowd. To my knowledge the only two boats with these names on the register (I think).
@@MyNarrowboatVenture sorry, not sure how the message ended up muddled. Was saying did our single longest trip yesterday since getting our boat of 8 miles.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Not at the moment, hopefully in the spring. Been refitting the boat since Feb. We are on the G&S and just moved from a marina onto a CRT mooring.
You keep well, too, Alan. Seems like you are currently in lock-down. We may being doing that as well in the US as our new president is more serious about the having a scientific panel, finally, to lead towards end this. As I am retired, this year could not enjoy any outside activity, like the museums I enjoy, meeting with friends. Instead I'm spending a lot of time inside. Greetings from Philadelphia, Jane.
Hi Jane, lovely to hear from you. We're in lockdown for a month and then we need to see what happens next. It's not as stringent as before, the schools and universities are open. It's a shame you haven't been able to enjoy your usual activities but hopefully next year, some normality will return. I'm not going to comment on American politics! Take care, very best wishes Alan x
Thanks very much Martin I've never used a mic, I too have noticed a change in sound. I think it's to do with the revs and what's vibrating on deck. The other thing is, that the sound can be very different depending on what medium you're watching, phone, tablet, TV etc. All the best Alan
Another good video thanks. Yours are always enjoyable. Off Licence on the moored narrowboat that you passed near the start after turning. That seemed a bit unusual. Do you need a licence on a mobile entity like a narrowboat or Train? I don't think you do, bit of an anomaly , no need for a licence I believe and certainly they never used to have to comply with opening hours. Maybe they should have duty free onboard!!! ^-) There's a lot of junk in the water there, large branches or bough parts They won't do a prop much good if they can find a way to touch it. Thanks for making and posting.
Many thanks Dan, your comment is much appreciated. Trading boats need a CRT licence but I'm not sure about the off-licence aspect. There were lots of branches in the water on this trip to beware of. All the best, hope you're keeping well. Take care, Alan.
Hi Ian. The canal is extra wide at that point, as there is an old arm, which branches off to go to the top of the 'short lived' inclined plane. It is ok for boats to moor alongside the towpath there, plenty of space, so not a problem. Cheers.
I'm sorry you feel that way, you're the first person to make such a comment, as most of my viewers actually like watching me. I try and give the viewer the impression they are on the boat with me and I know that works, as I have so many comments to that effect. Viewers often feel I am talking to them in person. I hope you'll find some other videos of mine to watch, which will be of more interest to you. Cheers Alan

That's exactly what I thought, I couldn't see it on the bowcam.
I enjoyed your vlog as usual Alan, see you next time.

Not sure what you're referring to! x
What’s a numpty!?
It is a mild term of abuse, which means a stupid or foolish person.
Alan, can I ask the output of your solar panels?
They are 175 watts each, so 350 together. Cheers
it is not easy to cross this long tunnel 😲
It's easier when you don't pass any boats inside.
PS... John in New Zealand .
Yep, i do recall. Cheers
The final scenes of The Eagle Has Landed were filmed at the Mapledurham Mill on the Thames. If you are ever on the Thames you can pass right by it.
Thanks for that advice Murray, if I ever get to visit, it will probably be by road. Cheers
Why was that boat moored at the winding hole, some people lack basic commonsense
Hi Ian. The canal is extra wide at that point, as there is an old arm, which branches off to go to the top of the 'short lived' inclined plane. It is ok for boats to moor alongside the towpath there, plenty of space, so not a problem. Cheers.
If ‘not a problem’, surely a risk to the moored boat of a collision? Too risky I’d say.
@@thebigchip I see lots of boats moored in riskier positions than that, particularly close to bridges and bends or where the canal narrows. Cheers
