- This is a collection of videos that let you hear the 2012 Dodge Charger
SRT8 with Magnaflow mufflers. I have removed the MDS baffles and the resonators. The Magnaflow mufflers (5-inch round by 14-inch) replace the stock mufflers. The compilation includes some WOT, moderate runs, and idling. Some have windows up, down,or just cracked (Windows are tinted so you can tell). For those interested in changing up their quiet stock SRT8 exhaust, this presents a good all around listen to what a change like mine will sound like. Sadly, the runs through the parking garage don't come across as loud as they were in person. The sound is just wicked in a garage or tunnel. Enjoy and yes I know the car is filthy since it won't quit raining
That sounds really nice! Nothing beats the sound of a push rod American v8!
Everyone slows down because they think your a cop, lol
Except for the guy in the white Crown Vic which you passed without apparently noticing at 3:33 under acceleration. The magnaflow is nice but pulls unwanted attention in those circumstances. Whether under the limit or not.
Left hand at one o'clock just like the pros.
Holding the steering wheel with just your left arm at 1 o'clock = +500 street cred, +20 hp, +30% overall appearance of the car...................
Hansli Peterli Oh, okay. Never went there so I was confused by this style.
+Hansli Peterli who pissed in your Cheerios?
absolutely perfect tone man, nice car
Thanks for the excellent video and sounds of the Magnaflow exhaust. I appreciate how you're recorded the system under various conditions, which gave me a much better idea of what the sound would be like. I've been on the fence about changing the OEM exhaust system out on my '12 Dodge Charger SRT8 and also which brand to go with. But, your video convinced me to sit on the fence no longer and to go with Magnaflow system.
That exhaust is kick ass!
Now 4:40 to 4:50 that is no bullshit hands down! That 6.4L Hemi makes that heavy car move like it's nothing. It totally hauls.
I totally love HEMI sound in parking garage
I put some magnaflow cyinders for my mufflers and deleted the resonators. the sound is so awesome. the video does it no justice
Birmingham baby -- lived there for 3 years. I recognized the rough entrance to 459 towards 280 as well as the Galleria area near DICKS sporting goods! Great sounding machine man!
Over 28K miles, the running average is 19.5 mpg. On road trips, I get about 23-26 mpg. It's a very fuel efficient car considering its weight and power.
Thank you for the Sunday drive. Awesome car.
Nice video.
And to all these haters, who don't own or never have owned an SRT8 or a charger or even a car, you wouldn't understand he probably has one hand on the wheel because the other hand is shifting up and down with what we automatic owners call a slap shifter and gripping the top part of the wheel with only one hand gives you better control than the bottom or side of the steering wheel.
Carlos Urias What about the paddle shifters. I've never once used the auto stick in mine
Carlos Urias he's not actually, it's just that easy to steer these
As soon as I heard that brrooowwwmmm at 0:02 I had to hit LIKE! Love it!
Beautiful car man and the exhaust is perfect, loud but not abnoxious
Thank you for the best 2012 SRT8 exhaust video on youtube!
Thank u so much for this video
sexy car man i have a 2011 r/t tryin to at least move up to 2012 srt 8
They are spring loaded valves that are welded in the exhaust just before the muffler. I believe the help in the transition from 8cyl to 4cyl mode. With the OEM exhaust is is pretty much seamless; I can tell when the 4cyl kicks in now but it isn't bad. Those valves really muffle the exhaust, especially at idle and slow to gradual acceleration.
Love the tag LBRTE....rocks. And we must fight to keep such Liberties and Freedoms...Never give em your guns America!
i love how much the camera was shaking when he started it:D
That car hauls.....and sounds great.
It is a beast when you take into account that with me in the car and a full tank of gas it is at least 4600+ pounds. I'm pretty amazed when getting onto the interstate in a hurry and look down at the speedo. Triple digits creep up real fast.
Damn, at least I got a taste with the R/T. I have enough mods to make it fun, but nothing can match the detail Dodge put into the srt8. I never thought I'd get a Charger period, I liked 350z and rx8's, but when I took a ride in a friends pursuit I was sold.
man you went everywhere Leeds, Moody, Trussville, Birmingham, I-20
Thanks. I hope it might help folks out when they decide to change up the wimpy OEM exhaust.
shit sounds mean as hell
I haven't put it on a dyno, but I honestly think the exhaust work made it very slightly faster. Not so much because of the exhaust but the weight reduction of removing the baffles and the surprisingly heavy pair of resonators.
You sir have a great car & a nicely clean
Good lord this jawn sounds beast!! 😈😈😈💯💯💯
Awesome sound
RTR!!! Got to love the SRT8 Chargers!
Best Mind Relaxing Music...!!!
yes it is straight through with a round body. I didn't think it was a magna pack, but perhaps it is. There is a couple of different model numbers depending on what finish you want. I chose the regular non-polished finish since I won't ever see it, but there is only about a $10 price difference. Thanks for the comments
omg, awesome sound. that's real stuff!
Cutting the baffles out gains the most sound. I don't have any resonators so I'm not sure what the full Magnaflow system includes. I have about 15K miles with no problems or lights. I'm sure your system will sound much better than the stock system.
I live in that part of Alabama to man my be me and my trans am will see you on the interstate. One day love the exhaust by the way
All the work is done behind the cats, but it isn't a prefab system. My experience with exhaust systems has been that you will have some drone when you don't have resonators (not sure if you have them or not on the system). It may be hard to tell on the video, but there is some drone from about 1700-2000 RPMs that isn't too bad unless the engine is cold or I'm in low gear going up a hill. I'm usually out of that RPM range while cruising so it hasn't been too much of an issue.
I love the way it sounds in the parking garage. Jealous here. :)
Just the two mufflers. The only other parts needed besides the tools are some pipes to run the exhaust to the rear of the car. Any exhaust shop will have that. I also re-used the factory tips; just make sure they are careful cutting them off so you don't have to buy new tips.
Yeah, I bought the prefab catback Magnaflow system, part number #15494 and I have drone on the highway at about 70-80mph in fifth gear and also at about 1500rpm on second gear (i.e. mostly when driving suburban/city roads). I also get it when the engine is cold and it's idling in park. When it is idling in gear (D, foot on brake) it's ok.
The system sounds *AMAZING*, but the drone is a bit annoying.
Can't wait to get my Barber's tag!
No codes and no ill effects on the MDS system. No change in gas mileage except maybe a very slight increase. This is how it should have rolled off the line at Dodge.
@ChargerSRT392 This video was actually done with an old Canon HF10 HD camera on a $50 headrest mount. And yes that is my car you saw on the Charger forum. Now my son calls it cop magnet since they like to pull me over so much
I have a magnum SRT8, with flowmaster 44 series mufflers and a reso delete, sounds very similar to this, just a higher pitch at high rpms =]
I wish! Good choice. I can't wait to hear it. I'm gonna subscribe.
sounds amazing
MDS is ok, but you know when it kicks in. Very noticeable going uphill at low RPMs. I usually disable it via paddles unless I'm on a trip. In normal driving, the MDS only buys you 1-2 mpg in my experience which means I usually turn it off. The majority of any drone is between about 1700-2100 RPM so look at your tach while you're driving and you can decide if it will affect you much.
That sounds damn good
I still only seen one of these and it was the yellow super bee edition. Very nice, but I couldn't pass up a blue or black model. By the time I pay off my R/T, these will be right in my price range. Insurance is almost half the price of a Mustang GT, insurance companies rate Chargers as luxury sedans.
@SharrodCurry It has the paddles, I guess you just couldn't see them on the video. I use them quite a bit since that is the only way you can avoid or disable MDS (4-cyl mode).
I think it is 4300 lbs or something like that. I just checked, it is 4365 to be precise.
Dope ass car.!
this dude know what wanna see (& hear) people, who don't have this car )) nice production
magnaflow is named exhaust ??? damn, i thought its custom ((
I'm quite certain the Magnaflow part numbers for the mufflers I used are #14866. They are 5-inch round and 14-inches long. 2.5 inch inlet/outlet and they are both in the center (not offset). You could use 4-inch round, but the 6-inch looked like they might rub against the heat shield. I believe they were about $100 a piece; so a really cheap upgrade. With the two mufflers and the cutting/fabrication of the other pieces I was out about $375 total
Nice vid now i want one
Hey Kevin......what happens when the MDS kicks in...does it sound terrible like a 4 banger...I watched ur vid but didnt hear it...also, whats the drone like? I have magnaflows on my 07 SRT8 now and I get a little drone...but was worried abt putting catbacks on the 13 due to all the negatives on the forums abt the MDS sound..
wow thats why im luv america,,,awesome
No codes or other issues with removing the baffles
Yea sorry I meant to say it came up with a magnapack style muffler. Wasn't called magnapack but it looks almost exactly the same as one. I'm just not sure what the difference is between the two
I crank it up and go. I keep it under 3K RPM until it gets a little heat in the oil though. I suspect modern engines are pretty forgiving as long as it's not freezing cold outside.
I love the looks and motor of the SRT challenger and charger, just too bad they can't shave off 300-400 lbs and maybe make it 10% smaller overall
Lol that exactly the way i put my radar detector in my charger
see video description. It's not a total Magnaflow system
Thanks and nice photo
I can't seem to find any roads where the local revenue enforcement agents won't find me
Nice car
AMAZING EVERYTHING
What camera did you use? Looks pretty good..
Beautiful car.would love to borrow if you in the giving spirit.lol
This Car is so beautiful and the sound is still a real V8 Engine sound. the europe cars like bmw mercedes benz and audi has no good V8 sound because of downsizing and turbo
Sounds great. I am running magnaflow 4' round by 14' long on my LS2 gto. Videos dont seem to give the same sound as live.
How often you in Hoover? Could maybe show you a better/longer hidden straightaway road?
So this isn't the entire catback exhaust system? I had that installed and I have some real problems with drone that I don't know how to get rid of. Just replacing the mufflers requires some cutting I suppose..
They will hit you for the SRT, at least State Farm does. My insurance went up quite a bit over a GTI and the previous Acura TL Type-S. If I recall correctly, the rate is similar to a Corvette. Thankfully my insurance is very cheap compared to most people I've talked to.
It sounds like music. Really good music. Did you notice any horsepower increase?
Old Canon HF10. I've recently upgraded to a new Sony cam that is much better. I hope to try it out for an in-car vid sometime soon.
That lope at 4:41
Dear Santa...
Unfortunately the only way to tell if it will sound good on your car is by watching videos or just trying it out. Sticking to the major brands would probably be a safe bet. Try using a local shop where they will be forgiving should you want to try a few different options.
According to Dodge and other various automotive sources, top speed is 175mph. I wouldn't know personally because that would be illegal ;)
I thought about putting microphones behind the tailpipes and using the stereo's amp to make my R/T louder. Maybe I'll try something like this instead.
WHICH model of Magnaflow muffler would have been helpful... Unless Magnaflow only makes one design?
Are these mufflers a straight though style muffler? When I put in the part number you have below(14866) it comes up as a magnapack straight though muffler. Car sounds great!
Sounds good, nice ride.. but that does seem slow for 470.. but that thing does way a couple tons. I have an 07 superchagred mustang GT with about 70 less crank HP than yours but the weight difference probably makes it very similar. Plus, auto makes it feel slower too, especially with long gearing.
hey what model of go pro do you have. Awesome video. I think saw your pictures when you first got your car on the chargerforum. You have a son that calls it dark vader or something?
Yeah I hear that from all the manufacturers but I want to know if you can feel a difference. If not, why bother. I don't just want to make noise. The SLP place is right by here but I hate the tin can sound and to me it's just noise! I loved the Zoomers and I like the sound of the magnaflow and a few others but I don't want to waste the money just for sound. By the way I mean no offense. Each person has their own taste and that helps keep everyone in business.
nice
@Chris davis they have an option for the 6 speed but gotta pay extra most dealers wont Carry but one or two.of them in stock but you do have the. Choice
No auto 5 speed only for this year
Most people do that. But I get lower fuel consumption starting out to my destination.
Thanks!
What are the part numbers for your setup. This sound is as good as Corsa exhausts. More info on the setup pls!
Badass Charger my man.
LOVE THE SOUND!!!
were any codes thrown up on the dash after changing the exhaust??
I haven't put it on the dyno so I can only say 470HP at the crank
lol im trying to just finish school and buy one of these, or the 300c srt 8
It's the best I could do with only 5 letters... Liberty
I changed the exhaust strictly for sound. Not because I wanted a different sound, but just some volume. The stock exhaust is absolutely puny on these cars for some odd reason.
Nice
Do you get any drone without the resonators? Or any "helicopter" noises when it goes into 4 cylinder mode?
Badass! !!!!
