I always live videogames where your decisions/actions impact the story. This is 1 of the best examples of this since even small decisions in the 1st few Chapters of the game can drastically change the route you take, which characters live or die, and how the game will end.

As someone who loves cinematic-style playthroughs, I gotta give you your flowers on this one. I’m a quarter of the way through, and I’m extremely impressed by this. The devs of this also need to be given their props. Years later and it’s still one of the best looking games out there.
Absolutely fantastic. While technically speaking this isn't my favourite Detroit game movie, and both editing wise and in game choices wise I'd made different choices here and there this editing is absolutely phenomenal. Super impressive and honestly the 2nd best game movie of this I've ever seen. Certainly the #1 best I've seen so far in terms of editing out parts of the UI and giving it that extra movie-like feel. You should be proud. Good stuff. 👍

Yeah same. It was just a matter of poll results that it took a while to come up. But I'm glad I waited, because I wouldn't have been able to do it the way I did here even just a couple years ago.
I like the way you presented this, the editing and the path. Most people would call the "Best Ending" one where everyone lives and the protest was successful let alone Kara making it across the border, but this video answered one of the vital questions I've always had without playing this game. You played it in such a way where Kara and Alice end up at Markus speech, putting all 3 central characters together at the end. Now the only thing I wonder is if Kara can be released from the camp if a protest happens or can she be rescued if Connor was always the Antagonist. Either way this playthrough was a refreshing change of pace from the so called "Best Endings".
@@AndyGilleand Well that's just too bad. I would have also changed a couple of points. Since Todd would have never been seen again in your edit, I don't see why you just didn't kill him. I would have had Connor shoot Chloe as an element of drama to make you think he might still go machine but go deviant anyways later. Since Markus would choose to go to war anyhow I think I would have had the freedom march end in an attack, your thoughts?

@@maxcardun A year late, but I think that shooting the Chloe unit is something that locks you into the Machine Path (could be wrong though!). So I don't think it would've worked thematically. Unless there was some crazy editing involved there.

THIS IS AMAZING!!!! I really enjoyed this and this was my favorite play through I have ever seen! My grandpa is currently going through chemo for lung cancer and I got him to watch this game with me. This was the gameplay I watched with him and he fell in love. !Spoiler tw! I couldn’t find a good play through of the bad ending where Kara is tougher, Markus is aggressive, and Connor is evil, and then their characters die at the end. It would mean the world to me, my dad, my grandpa, and my friends if you could make a play through of that ending. I hope this finds you well. Great job!

@@salmaankhan7 I will tally the results on February 12th and use the results on that date in combination with the other factors to decide which movie I will make, which I will then begin working on that very night. Because the poll is a multiple choice "approval" poll, and because I can go in and add new poll options and people can go in to edit their responses, I may keep the poll open and just modify it whenever I want to add a new game to the possible options, and make a post about that so people can go back in to update their response if they want.

Out of all the endings, I think I like this one the best, as all 3 protagonists get to end up together. In Canada, Kara and Alice are just sort of left alone. If Markus succeeds with either option he can choose, then why did Kara have to leave detroit? It never quite feels right to me to end her story there, even though the scenes leading up to it (particularly the river) can be quite interesting, and I also love the idea of Markus's actions directly impacting Kara's ending.

I agree with @thegreatbocaj, I've actually been waiting patiently for a few years since the game came out for someone as talented as you, to create something like this for the world to enjoy. This is a great start for non-gamers to get a chance to see what truly good video games have to offer in terms of story and life-like graphical fidelity. i've been wondering how the canon/real story plot of this game SHOULD be. i'm glad to find this video. very interesting. ❤ however for the Zlatko chapter, i think Kara is supposed to get her memory corrupted, because the scene when she approached Luther, the game developer seemed to make her look calm and innocent like a non-deviant android.

That was a very difficult choice. I love the peaceful ending, especially with the singing, but ultimately the ending I wanted required a violent Markus, because he had to liberate the camps and set Kara free so they could all be together. From there I took a close look at Markus's story, and I decided that the events of the story actually make a lot of sense to push Markus towards ultimately going violent. He keeps trying to be peaceful, and there are negative results every time he does, ultimately resulting in the raid at Jericho. I think that raid is the perfect place for Markus to change his mindset. He's forced into attacking the humans to defend his friends, and the significant loss of his allies ultimately results in him wanting to fight back. If there was one thing I'd change, I'd actually change what Markus says in the ship cabin to show a gradual shift in his mindset at the time. Instead of Markus pushing for dialogue in that moment, I would change it so that he says they should just sight tight and consider their next options. This would align well with what Markus tells Kara in the previous scene, but it would also show that he is starting to have some doubts in his previous peaceful approach. But by the time I realized that would have been the better choice there, I had already exported the movie, so it was too late.
I think we're definitely on a path where a future alongside androids is imminent. This is a brilliant vision of what things will eventually be. And perhaps beyond this - more of a 'Westward-style' type droid. Where can I send my down payment for the Henry Cavill model?😅
This is awesome, great job in making this feel like a 5 hour long film. Planning to make a game movie of RE4 Remake? Doing a No HUD is very possible as it removes 99% of the HUD in that game

@@BervikGaming That's not even it. No horror is scary to me. It's just gross and unappealing to me. For a horror story to work for me, the horror of it needs to take a backseat to something else like comedy or strong character drama, so things like The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, or Zombieland for example work for me, but more traditional horror doesn't really do it for me.

It's a shame that OG RE4 is pretty much horror themed with comedic dialogue, too bad it's more videogamey and less likely to be optimized for a movie format. In that case, ever thought of doing Max Payne 3? It's a standalone story with the first two feel more like an optional origin story.

I don't know anything about Lies of P. As far as GTA5 goes, when I played it back on PS3 I thought the length was an issue, and I felt the story wasn't focused enough to make a good movie. Length is less of an issue today, but story could still be. I plan to play the PS5 version at some point, but it's quite a ways down my backlog so it might be a while. I'll make a final decision after I replay it then.

This was not ANYTHING like the Ending I got. Camped in the streets, I ended with peace, kissed north as Markus, and it moved the president, making armed forces stand down. No war. Love prevailed. But I loved seeing the differences, and there were tons of parts I never saw. Might watch more versions from others now.
The biggest one is I really like the peaceful protest at the end instead of the violent revolution, with the androids singing. But there are a ton of different versions of every one of the scenes and I have a lot of favorites from those alternate versions as well.

i remember years ago watching pewdiepie play this game i thought the whole concept was stupid who would empathize with a robot, but in just 5 years we now have AI I really empathize with the robots now
I don't have any currently planned. I remember deciding not to do Wolf Among Us after I played it, but I can't remember why. Same with Walking Dead. That being said, I do plan to go back and play the whole walking dead series at some point (only played 1 before) and also play Wolf Among Us 2 when that comes out, so who knows. My process has changed a bit since those years so there's a chance I could change my mind, but I won't know until i play then again.
I decided against that. There isn't much of a story there. It's a fun DLC with gorgeous environments, but a DLC really needs a good story for me to want to make it into a movie.
@@SkyVoicesdab I remember I decided against it originally because I didn't think it really had a singular overall story, so it didn't feel like a good fit for a movie, but also because I thought it would be too long. Well, I've made movies now that are longer than that, so perhaps when I replay it, I will take that opportunity to think about it again. I have the PS5 version, just haven't played it yet. I have a fairly large backlog and GTA5 is #45 on it
For some of it I could cut around it, but when I had to remove things I was mostly using Content Aware Fill in Adobe After Effects. Sometimes I had to do it in multiple layers and re-composite, for example a foreground layer reconstructing a moving character, and a background layer, because Content Aware Fill doesn't handle parallaxing objects behind the removed object well.
I've been working on my God of War Ragnarok movie for about a month and a half now and I am currently expecting it to be out some time this summer. Keep an eye on my channel art as I update that as soon as I have more info on the release window. Or you could subscribe to my patreon where I'm able to give estimates for the most likely release date and details about where I'm at in the project and what I'm doing. I just don't publish those projected estimates here because they can potentially change every day.
@@frankbakila4353 Gotham Knights isn't one that I currently have planned. I didn't end up buying it, as it didn't look interesting enough to me from either a story or gameplay perspective.
I use an encoder called Voukoder, which can work as a plugin in premiere. In order to encode in HDR, you first have to make sure premiere isn't reading the file as HDR so that it can send the raw colors to the encoder. That means telling premiere to interpret all the footage as rec709 before exporting. In voukoder I use x265 and instead of bitrate I use a crf value. I pick a different value for each project but for this one I believe I used CRF 12 Unfortunately that's not enough for the encoding to work in HDR. There are several pieces of Metadata that you need to include before it will encode correctly. At bare minimum, color primaries should be bt2020, transfer function must be st2084, and color matrix should be bt2020nc. Although if you have footage where you know those values are different, like HLG footage for example, you can also use those values, but ONLY if you know they're correct. Otherwise you will get a very wrong looking encode. It's usually ideal to also include the MaxCLL, MaxFALL, and Master Display Metadata to make it HDR10 compliant and tonemap better on HDR displays, but you can leave those if you don't know them. I have a guide on the voukoder website forum that describes the process in more detail.

I believe a violent revolution is the only way Kara can get out of the camp without finding a way to escape

THIS IS AMAZING!!!! I really enjoyed this and this was my favorite play through I have ever seen! My grandpa is currently going through chemo for lung cancer and I got him to watch this game with me. This was the gameplay I watched with him and he fell in love. !Spoiler tw! I couldn’t find a good play through of the bad ending where Kara is tougher, Markus is aggressive, and Connor is evil, and then their characters die at the end. It would mean the world to me, my dad, my grandpa, and my friends if you could make a play through of that ending. I hope this finds you well. Great job!

Because the poll is a multiple choice "approval" poll, and because I can go in and add new poll options and people can go in to edit their responses, I may keep the poll open and just modify it whenever I want to add a new game to the possible options, and make a post about that so people can go back in to update their response if they want.

Out of all the endings, I think I like this one the best, as all 3 protagonists get to end up together. In Canada, Kara and Alice are just sort of left alone. If Markus succeeds with either option he can choose, then why did Kara have to leave detroit? It never quite feels right to me to end her story there, even though the scenes leading up to it (particularly the river) can be quite interesting, and I also love the idea of Markus's actions directly impacting Kara's ending.

I agree with @thegreatbocaj, I've actually been waiting patiently for a few years since the game came out for someone as talented as you, to create something like this for the world to enjoy. This is a great start for non-gamers to get a chance to see what truly good video games have to offer in terms of story and life-like graphical fidelity.

i've been wondering how the canon/real story plot of this game SHOULD be. i'm glad to find this video. very interesting. ❤
however for the Zlatko chapter, i think Kara is supposed to get her memory corrupted, because the scene when she approached Luther, the game developer seemed to make her look calm and innocent like a non-deviant android.
If she does get her memory corrupted, she regains her memory before that moment anyway

That was a very difficult choice. I love the peaceful ending, especially with the singing, but ultimately the ending I wanted required a violent Markus, because he had to liberate the camps and set Kara free so they could all be together. From there I took a close look at Markus's story, and I decided that the events of the story actually make a lot of sense to push Markus towards ultimately going violent. He keeps trying to be peaceful, and there are negative results every time he does, ultimately resulting in the raid at Jericho. I think that raid is the perfect place for Markus to change his mindset. He's forced into attacking the humans to defend his friends, and the significant loss of his allies ultimately results in him wanting to fight back.
If there was one thing I'd change, I'd actually change what Markus says in the ship cabin to show a gradual shift in his mindset at the time. Instead of Markus pushing for dialogue in that moment, I would change it so that he says they should just sight tight and consider their next options. This would align well with what Markus tells Kara in the previous scene, but it would also show that he is starting to have some doubts in his previous peaceful approach. But by the time I realized that would have been the better choice there, I had already exported the movie, so it was too late.

I think we're definitely on a path where a future alongside androids is imminent. This is a brilliant vision of what things will eventually be. And perhaps beyond this - more of a 'Westward-style' type droid. Where can I send my down payment for the Henry Cavill model?😅

@@BervikGaming That's not even it. No horror is scary to me. It's just gross and unappealing to me. For a horror story to work for me, the horror of it needs to take a backseat to something else like comedy or strong character drama, so things like The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, or Zombieland for example work for me, but more traditional horror doesn't really do it for me.
@@AndyGilleand Ah, so you'd do projects that are more horror themed than actual horror. It's a shame that OG RE4 is pretty much horror themed with comedic dialogue, too bad it's more videogamey and less likely to be optimized for a movie format.
In that case, ever thought of doing Max Payne 3? It's a standalone story with the first two feel more like an optional origin story.

That''s more european phrasing which was probably a mistake. The game is developed in France. But it's also possible that you don't straight up buy them too. Maybe you pay for them continually while they're in your service.

As far as GTA5 goes, when I played it back on PS3 I thought the length was an issue, and I felt the story wasn't focused enough to make a good movie.
Length is less of an issue today, but story could still be. I plan to play the PS5 version at some point, but it's quite a ways down my backlog so it might be a while. I'll make a final decision after I replay it then.

This was not ANYTHING like the Ending I got. Camped in the streets, I ended with peace, kissed north as Markus, and it moved the president, making armed forces stand down. No war. Love prevailed. But I loved seeing the differences, and there were tons of parts I never saw. Might watch more versions from others now.
Well now I'm curious about what favorite moments couldn't be worked into the edited story!
The biggest one is I really like the peaceful protest at the end instead of the violent revolution, with the androids singing. But there are a ton of different versions of every one of the scenes and I have a lot of favorites from those alternate versions as well.

I don't have any currently planned. I remember deciding not to do Wolf Among Us after I played it, but I can't remember why. Same with Walking Dead. That being said, I do plan to go back and play the whole walking dead series at some point (only played 1 before) and also play Wolf Among Us 2 when that comes out, so who knows. My process has changed a bit since those years so there's a chance I could change my mind, but I won't know until i play then again.

I decided against that. There isn't much of a story there. It's a fun DLC with gorgeous environments, but a DLC really needs a good story for me to want to make it into a movie.

@@SkyVoicesdab I remember I decided against it originally because I didn't think it really had a singular overall story, so it didn't feel like a good fit for a movie, but also because I thought it would be too long. Well, I've made movies now that are longer than that, so perhaps when I replay it, I will take that opportunity to think about it again. I have the PS5 version, just haven't played it yet. I have a fairly large backlog and GTA5 is #45 on it
I have one more question: what program did you use to cover the QTE buttons and dialogues?
For some of it I could cut around it, but when I had to remove things I was mostly using Content Aware Fill in Adobe After Effects. Sometimes I had to do it in multiple layers and re-composite, for example a foreground layer reconstructing a moving character, and a background layer, because Content Aware Fill doesn't handle parallaxing objects behind the removed object well.

When will you release another game movie?
I've been working on my God of War Ragnarok movie for about a month and a half now and I am currently expecting it to be out some time this summer. Keep an eye on my channel art as I update that as soon as I have more info on the release window.

What software did you use to render the whole video as HDR and the bitrate size used?. Tx
I use an encoder called Voukoder, which can work as a plugin in premiere. In order to encode in HDR, you first have to make sure premiere isn't reading the file as HDR so that it can send the raw colors to the encoder. That means telling premiere to interpret all the footage as rec709 before exporting.
In voukoder I use x265 and instead of bitrate I use a crf value. I pick a different value for each project but for this one I believe I used CRF 12
Unfortunately that's not enough for the encoding to work in HDR. There are several pieces of Metadata that you need to include before it will encode correctly. At bare minimum, color primaries should be bt2020, transfer function must be st2084, and color matrix should be bt2020nc. Although if you have footage where you know those values are different, like HLG footage for example, you can also use those values, but ONLY if you know they're correct. Otherwise you will get a very wrong looking encode.
It's usually ideal to also include the MaxCLL, MaxFALL, and Master Display Metadata to make it HDR10 compliant and tonemap better on HDR displays, but you can leave those if you don't know them.
I have a guide on the voukoder website forum that describes the process in more detail.
