- Sheldon Wohlman of Utility Sports analyzes his favorite two draft selections from Day One of the 2024 NBA Draft. The Houston Rockets selected Reed Sheppard out of Kentucky who finished number 2 on my 2024 NBA Draft Big Board and the Boston Celtics picked Baylor Scheierman from Creighton with the final pick of the first round. These two provide functional offensive skills to teams that can find real use from their talents. The Celtics are in line to repeat as NBA champs and the Houston Rockets are looking to make a push into the NBA Playoffs.

Am I crazy to have Luka as Baylor closest comp? He obviously doesn't have the ceiling that Luka does but their playstyle similarities are uncanny. The way Baylor moves with the ball, positions his body, turn around fade always, deep threat, passing, similar feel for the game and athleticism.

I think the T'Wolves might have got some value with the Terrence Shannon, Jr. pick - not a bad fit either...
The Rockets now have a legit 10 man rotation. They could actuaĺy have an A team and a B team. Think about Adams throwing his long outlet passes to Amen, Tari, and Cam and Sheppard coming up for the trailing 3. The B team could wear out the opposing team with less depth while the Rockets A team rests. This also helps with conistency and injuries. The Rockets strength is now depth, watching to see if Udoka understands how to use it. Sometimes less is more. I would suggest that the best strategy for them is to try and spread the minutes out to maximize intensity on defense and fresh legs for good shooting. A bit unconventional(anti-Knicks) but I think it could work.
10 man rotation and decent end of bench depth (pre-injuries). That said a lot is dependent on staying healthy and also Jalen Green playing like at least 80% of March Jalen for the entire season and not that garbage he showed outside of his little outburst.
@@KyouOneZilla Yea, Jalen has to show consistency. Availability(no injuries) and consistency are overlooked skills. I think he has to hit 36% on the 3 and continue to improve the D and passing to be a starting player. He wasn't very good most of the year - probably didn't deserve to start.

Why you like the Lakers pick so much?
@@Bluewatercat Lakers desperately needed improvement for this upcoming season and Knecht is widely regarded as the most NBA ready of all the draft prospects. If they end up blowing it up next offseason this pick grade gets worse, but until a blow-up/rebuild happens it's a good pick.
