This is random but, 10 years ago I had just arrived in Hong Kong for a 3-month missions outreach. I was 23 years old & I had just started being a full-time missionary. It was me and Jesus. I wanted God to "make something beautiful out of me." Specifically to be a missionary for the rest of my life. I also hoped I would be married soon. I was full of faith and hope for the future. It was in this specific season in HONG KONG when I found this video and watched it over and over and over again. He was touching me through it. I felt His presence. The message is so simple, so sweet & just what I needed to connect with God. Now, 10 years later, life has caused me to harden my heart. To "LEAN ON my own understanding" and start doing things in MY OWN strength. God (in his loving wisdom) pulled me out of missions 6 years ago to come home indefinitely. I was so disappointed with myself was angry with GOD. I truly felt delayed in my calling and very purposeless. It was then that God was asking me to "Give it all to Him and trust that he was making something beautiful out of me." I fought it and I didn't believe it and I became offended and started to questioned His goodness. Things slowed down and I became less zealous for the things of God all while I believed I still loved Him. In actuality my heart was so far from Him. God took a backseat in my life and my intimacy has suffered. I was trying to build my own kingdom. Lately though I have received so much deliverance from demonic oppression, I have memorized the first 9 chapters of the Book of Proverbs and I found a great community that's been challenging me to see real fruit in my life. Prayer, Fasting, deliverance, scripture memorization, being in His word. Additionally after watching this video again today I sense that God is biding me to, once again, LEAN NOT on my own understanding & more importantly to COME BACK TO MY FIRST LOVE. I have multiplied blessings in this current season. Just married (1.5 yrs) & expecting my first child. While, I cannot express how grateful I am for these abundant blessings/beautiful gifts from God they will never compare to my relationship with the Gift Giver Himself. Time to get Back to my First Love. By listening to this song I'm taken back to a time when I was less hurt, less offended, less religious & so full of hope and faith for my future because I ONLY wanted to please Jesus. No matter the cost. No matter the place. No matter the circumstances. Lean not on my own understanding.. and it's time to do that again. Lean on Him. Just me and Jesus. truly a classic :,) and every time I listen to this song, I am reminded of the vastness of our God's love and grace for us. especially during this pandemic we may feel tempted to forsake the importance of patience in His plan and instead turn to other idols in our lives to gain our strength from. But in those moments, we simply need to trust that He will not let this rough season of our lives go to waste. There is something amazing and beautiful that the Lord will do. My son got intubated on December and I don't know why but I remembered your cover (I heard it years ago) and I sang it to him every day and night till he was extubated. He was only six months old but he used to respond to it even while intubated. It was really beautiful. Now he smiles every time I sing it here in the hospital (he's waiting for a heart transplant). I didn’t hear this song until last weekend at this church camp. But hearing the words of this song for the first time made me cry. I love this cover u made.
