One of the issues with using UTC instead of time zones is that you still need to know the relative time to other places. If you need to call your business partner in Tokyo, would 18:00 UTC be an appropriate time to call? If you know that it's 3 AM in Tokyo, you're not going to call. Noon is lunchtime everywhere, but UTC means that lunch is at 00:00, 01:00, 02:00, etc.

Anselm's ontological argument (for the existence of God) is interesting. As I understand it, since the idea of a perfect being exists in our minds, because we can conceive of it, its nonexistence (independent of the mind) would entail that the idea actually refers to something imperfect, since existence is greater (more perfect) than nonexistence, which is a contradiction that can only be resolved by affirming its existence.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy I think the confusion for some, such as the individual in chat who mentioned a fire-breathing dragon, comes from assuming that it's as simple as "if I can imagine or think of something, it must exist", but that's not the argument. There's something "special" about perfection. Sure, I can conceive of a fire-breathing dragon, but its nonexistence doesn't generate a contradiction in my idea of it. That's not the case for a perfect being (i.e., God).
But, a god who achieved all He has supposed to have done, would be more perfect if He did all this whilst not existing, since that would overcome more hurdles, ie managing to achieve anything whilst not existing -)
@@carlwalker7560 Sounds like a contradiction to me. Something that does not exist cannot do things, since doing implies a doer, which implies its existence.

That cap would be tremendously easy to lock. Epistemology is the study of knowledge. I took a class on it as an elective while in business school, and it was probably one of the best classes of my entire undergrad degree back in the day. The professor was great, and It's not an exaggeration to say the class helped teach me how to think and how to evaluate my own beliefs. There was nothing pretentious about it. Yes, we read some classic epistemological philosophy, but real world examples were used throughout the course constantly. It wasn't just some head in the sky BS. I understand if you don't like how some people approach epistemology, but no, the study of knowledge is not pretentious twaddle. It can be approached in an extremely practical way, and is probably more necessary than ever in today's world.
That's not the ontological argument. The ontological argument is: 1: Everything that begins to exist has a cause. 2. The universe began to exist 3: Therefor the universe has a cause. It definitely can and has lost value. It had a roughly 24 year drawdown from the early 80's to 2007, losing over 50% in notional value. That means adjusting for inflation, it lost far more than that in real value. Yeah, it eventually recovered afterwards but 24 years is nearly half an adult lifetime.
