What a beautiful rendition! As you know, Pokarekare Ana was written by Māori men about to be shipped off to the far off Europe to fight for king and country in WW1, but hoped to come back to their land and loved ones. Though there have been many beautiful renditions by women, the haunting voices of men really brings the sentiments home. I also couldn’t help but wonder, now that it is 2024, perhaps some of these men might have sailed off to the eternal rest. Yet, their voices continue to live with us, of the longings to be with loved ones. Kia Ora! Kia Orana! Long May You Live!
Such a haunting melody, this is a very different production of this wonderful song but absolutely beautiful. Thank you. Loved it.
