Pyzel "White Tiger" Surfboard Review Ep 132

  • In this episode, Noel Salas reviews the Pyzel "White Tiger" Surfboard. TJ from Pyzel shares a bit about the Pyzel Ghost family of surfboards and compares the White Tiger, the Gremlin and the Astro Pop. The White Tiger has a flatter deck, a little less rocker on the nose and tail versus the Gremlin. Noel says it has more down the line speed than the Gremlin and allows you to get past flat sections. It's got a fuller rail but is a bit tapered. The bottom contours vary the most out of the Ghost family of surfboards. The Gremlin has a squash tail, more rocker and most like it for more high-performance surfing. Both TJ and Noel like riding it with a quad set up, but it can also pack a punch when the waves get shoulder high with a thruster set up. Noel then takes the 5'3 26.2 L to the pool and rides it with Asa. They are both stoked on the amazing rail-to-rail transitions where they ride it as a Twin plus Trailer. Overall, this board is great for 1- to 3-foot mushy waves and those with a little extra texture. Noel finishes by comparing the White Tiger, the Gremlin and the Astro Pop Surfboards and explains the difference between a squash tail and a swallow tail. Watch the full review to see which board will suit your style of surfing. Enjoy!

    Honestly one of my favorite board reviews thus far - I so appreciate the time, effort, energy and love you put into this. It’s hard work and you’re doing it extremely well in a thoughtful, obviously considered way. But crap - now I want a White Tiger for my small, weak South Carolina waves.
    Keep crushing it, Noel. Much respect and gratitude.

    Pyzel needs to bring his widest point back to at least the middle of the board, if not a bit behind half way. For JJF etc, they're riding solid hollow waves all the time and the Pyzels obviously go excellently. But get them in mush or even normal beachies and you have issues (unless you are small and light). No rocker boards are also a pain in the butt. Again, all the reviews have light guys on very short low-litre boards, so it can't be extrapolated out to heavier bigger guys forced onto longer boards.
    How is your THR going Noel? I'm up for it in the next year or two. Dislocation and flexibility etc will be a worry, at least for a while. One surgeon said to me if a big wave hits me wrong it could dislocate it without me even pushing it while riding.

    A big extended Vee with deep double concave has been my extra decision and direction to shapers on my last two custom boards... All Aussie local shapers used here and I'll never change this design UPGRADE in any future buys from any shaper!!!!! It works well on the East Coast and our typical beaches need foam, wide tail with lighting turn ability and speed!! Still will never buy from an Hawaiian shaper but Pyzel is getting the basics for world sales on this one!!!!

    Hi Guys, I have a 5’10 White Tiger in the Dark Arts. Had it for about three weeks. I think I went a little big with the 5’10. I have had some amazing waves on it. The “V” is very pronounce in the tail making the transition from rail to rail real good (kinda like with Noel in the pool). Anyways, I keep buying new boards ( I bought BLack Vulture II, White Tiger and Pyzelalien II in the last nine months) and have to get rid of a few. So I am selling mine for $750. I live in San Diego if anyone is interested.

    • @brianfleming1310
      @brianfleming1310 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joaoacolonnezi6493 I got the board because I like to generate a lot of speed down the line and hit big turns. To kick it up a notch, I got it in EPS and ride it as a quad (my normal preference). There is no doubt that the board is fast. In a lot of cases too fast. I tried to settle it down with a thruster set up and a 2+1 but it was just too much. A better surfer might make it work better. I struggle with it a bit. My favorite board ever is a Pyzelalien II in EPS. So easy to ride. Very fast. Can fly into turns with tons of control.

    Noel I am looking at this board to fill a "high performance groveler" category I made up to justify having so many boards. In terms of speed and performance, is this board out performing my Hydra? I'm hoping to get a little more vertical agility and rippability in the pocket without sacrificing too much speed. I have a RW and Storms TT and love both but for waves 1 notch down, I'm torn between WT and Gremlin or just sticking with my hydra. As always, thank you for your time and insight!

    Hi Noel, thanks for your effort on these board reviews I really love your channel. I've got a question and hope you can help me out. I consider myself as a low intermediate surfer and ride a Chili Red Peppa 5'5, 19 1/4 and 2 1/4 (not sure the liter) currently. I bought this board when I was 55kg and now I'm 71kg. I'm still able to catch wave but getting tried easily. Therefore I consider to get white tiger with more volume. Would you recommend me to go for 5'5(29.5lt) or 5'6(30.1lt)? I'm 5'7 tall and where I surf the wave is around 2~4 ft, beach break and can be mushy sometime. Thanks!

      White Tiger paddles better and easier to shred in 1-3’ surf… however that’s the size this board was made for. If your looking for a Daily Driver that will shred the smaller waves and rip in overhead waves to then go 96. If you’re just buying a Groveler go White Tiger.

This happens when I surf board's shorter than my height. After not using traction pads for a few years I'm trying to get used to them again, and on shorter boards. Do your knees hit the back of pad when paddling?

    Hey Noel, thanks for all the information you provide in these reviews! I'm currently looking to replace my firewire baked potato (5' 3" 32L) for a small wave board that has a little more performance and is a little smaller than my baked potato, but is still good for 1-3' surf.
    I'm considering the white tiger and the bobby quad. My current quiver is a 5' 4" (27.2L) RNF 96 (favorite board) and a 5' 5" Gremlin (28.2 L) (I don't use this board much because I prefer the RNF 95% of the time and I've found this board to struggle in mushier/messy waves).
    Would you recommend the white tiger or bobby quad to replace the Baked Potato and what volume would you recommend about? I'm 5'5", 135lbs. Thanks, I appreciate the advice!

Futures AM2's worked really well, but not perfect!? I bought the NVS AM Comps (Large). But, the trailer fin seemed to lack the base I needed? great episode Man , know what’s crazy I’ve been riding a Custom high performance fish I designed for the past two years .. and one day I said I’m taken the Hayden shapes Hypto Krypto OUT lol !! DUDE I had so much Fun on it ! its been so many years sense I rode the thing lol ...
    Figured I share an old board lol ... the best fin setup I did on that Hayden was Bamboo + carbon wrap fins up front and a Almerick. honey comb as the Center fin .. Thruster setup ..
    That board lacked Drive but with that fin combo I managed to get it to go pretty good ..
    only thing is it doesn’t like HIGH speed .. gets very skatie .. it needed a little more concave in the tail ..

      Seaside is a performance fish. Completely different sleds but both are epic.
      WT will grovel better do to less overall rocker. The WT offers a bit more versatility with 5 fin boxes. (Quad, Thruster, Twin + Trailer. For mushy waves and wave pool shredding I prefer the WT.

    Hey Noel, i wish i would’ve seen a video like your how to go from beginner to intermediate one when i started surfing. In 2020 a buddy and I decided to start surfing. We told the worker at a surf shop our situation being brand new to surfing. They sold us both NSP Tinder-D8 5’10 19 5/8 2 3/8 29.9L
    I Am 5’11 165Lbs. Soon as we bought them we went straight into the water and were able to stand up on them by the end of the day. We continued surfing that board for awhile. Although i got to a point where i could stand up consistently, i wanted start surfing down the line instead of just straight ahead. I Still have a hard time paddling as well as catching a bunch of waves and want to start surfing down the line. I bought a Sampler 5’8 stock board & a Two Happy 5’9 stock board thinking they would make me a better surfer. I don’t know where to go from here and would really appreciate some advice on how to progress my surfing from here. Should i get a different board? What should i practice? Thanks in advance brother🤙🏼

    • @PyzelSurfboardsInternational
      @PyzelSurfboardsInternational ปีที่แล้ว +6

      People new to surfing often make the mistake of believing that a smaller, more high-performance board will help them be better surfers quicker, but you are much better off riding a bit bigger/longer board while mastering the basics. Learning how to surf is partially a numbers game-- the more waves you ride the faster you will improve. My simple rule is "if you are not catching waves than you are not having fun or getting better" and riding too small a board is gonna have you missing waves. Work your way up to the more advanced size/designed boards because trying to skip stages will only e.nd up holding you back

    • @jaccpottt3269

      @@PyzelSurfboardsInternational Thank you for the reply🤙🏼 That makes perfect sense. Exactly how i’ve been feeling recently cause i’ve been struggling to get waves it just hasn’t been as fun. If i start catching waves i’ll have a blast again. What board model and height/liters would you recommend with me being 5’11 165lbs & being a higher level beginner? I able able to stand up 7 times out of 10 on my 5’10 and 5’8 board and ride 3-4ft waves whenever i do drop in the wave but i just have trouble catching a bunch of waves and trying to get consistent with my pop ups/drop in and am trying to start riding down the line instead of straight forward.

      The WT will grovel the best out for these 3 boards. It’s best in 1-3’ surf but not great for overhead waves.
      The RW Squash is a good daily driver board and best in 3-5’+ surf. You will need to work for speed in 1-3’ mushy waves but it’s a really fun board.
      The G-Skate is better as a Daily Driver board too. Not a sure fast Groveler in small waves but surprisingly good in overhead surf.
      My first pick for a 1 board quiver is the Lost RnF 96.

    This board just looked plain bad under Noel's feet. Despite the flatter rocker it looked slow and boggy. Can't tell if it's that he's undervolumed or that despite the flat rocker this board still wants curvier or more powerful surf. Looks to me more that he's undervolumed for the conditions.

      How about the water being 52 degrees and me being tight. Surfing cold water really plays a factor in my performance and my ability to get low. If you compare my surfing in the pool to the ocean… you will see my body getting lower and I’m feeling way more flexible and free in my trunks

    • @ds724
      @ds724 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@surfnshowreviews7777 That's my point - not having 10 pounds of rubber on you is going to help the board float and plane better. I haven't been to Waco but it looks like the board clearly went better there and the wave at Waco looks punchier too, but you were also 10lbs lighter. You really should look into giving yourself a touch more foam - even some of the top guys on Pyzel's team who weigh less than you ride more than you. Maybe you don't need it for the pool, but for the ocean it's going to help, especially in the weak, flat waves that are the OC's bread and butter.

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ds724 I hear you but I think you missed my point…. I usually ride 27L in the ocean. Giving me more foam in 52 degree water isn’t going to help me get lower to my board and help me be explosive and generate more speed. More foam might give me more glide but it will be more delayed from turn to turn.
      I don’t give much attention to what the pros are riding… I don’t surf like them… they like more foam and longer boards. I did all that back in the 90’s and I’m done with that.
