Pea gravel isn't a good base because it moves around. Never use smooth stone for a pathway or parking pad. Always use well-compacted crushed rock. Compacting causes the facets of the crushed rock to align, wedging them tightly together. Water will pass through, but there'll be no movement like you have with smooth stones.
That so-called 'dip' in your backyard, that you filled in, was a swale. A swale is a three-sided ditch placed to catch surface water and channel it away from your house. You may have noticed you're on the downhill side of a sizable water shed above your house.

You need to excavate 6”. Install 2” of 3/4” base rock and compact it in. Then add woven fabric over that. Then instal 2” of decomposed granite or stone dust. Compact that in. Then add 1” of decomposed granite and compact. Last step is to add a thin layer of pea gravel and compact it in. When done this way the gravel doesn’t move. It’s strong like concrete. Much like a Roman road. Good luck.

By "ride behind" do you mean like a Dingo? If so, I used one on another project and it worked great. Would highly recommend it. Also, I changed the rock to 3/4 stone. Hold together much better than pea gravel.

I did add 3/4 inch gravel to the parking pad to keep the pea gravel from moving so much. Made for a more solid pad. Good looking job. I'm pricing up for someone to do mine. I'm going to use geocell gravel retention blocks. As I don't want the gravel pushing around. In the UK it's £200 for the block's but will be worth that little bit extra.
@@TheLawnShark A lot of tradesmen tell me I need tarmac. But I already have the gravel so wanted to use that. Having looked at a few videos. Gravel is a good option. Especially with retention blocks under it.

No, not steep. But there is a reason why I did a "fast forward" because I am not fast 😂. You do need to be a bit coordinated because a lot of times your controls are coordinated between left and right hands. But nothing complicated. Just need to start slow.

I assume you mean concrete... In any case, I chose not to do concrete because I wasn't sure what our permanent plan is for that space. I have considered building a workshop or garage or carriage house, so I didn't want to drop a bunch of concrete that would have to be ripped out or overbuilt concrete without knowing our plans. Besides, it wasn't about easy, it was about doing the work myself and this is how I chose to accomplish it.

Hi, what is the measurements of this parking pad? How many cars can fit there?
24 ft wide by 20 feet deep. I can fit 3 cars in this configuration. I have since made it into a 2 car space and it is now 15 feet wide.

I think you can use any insecticide you want to treat the area. It should not affect the area in any way.
What type of landscaping fabric did you use?
I just used the simple black nylon fabric. Was not intending it to last forever.

Overall, it is fine, but if I had to do it over again, I would have gone with gravel. The Pea Gravel moves around too much.
