Absolutely fantastic job Robin - thrilled that you decided to use our Breedon self-binding gravel for your project. The advice and tips given throughout to get the optimum performance from the product is spot on! A pleasure to work with you on this 🙌🏼
As always, I love the design input, planning, detail, and quality put in and demonstrated Good for you enjoy the fruit of your labour. Keep safe. Regards Martin
We’ve got a huge garden but it’s just been gravelled with some horrible chunky stuff. We are going to reclaim the space to make a nice outdoor area and this looks ideal for creating some paths around it!!
The Gravel is good stuff we use it on historic buildings we recently put 60 tone in at sandal Castle in Wakefield and 60 tone is in at Pontefract castle👌
Hi, we often supply our Wayfarer for petanque pistes. The Breedon Gravel is a 12mm to dust and the Wayfarer is a 6mm to dust - installed following the exact same process 🙌🏼
You're a promising landscaper too! A really informative and realistically paced project, as a landscaper too its a very satisfying material to work with and looks great!
Nice job as always Robin, I've been considering using this product myself but I've got to see if the small quantity I would require can be sourced economically ! Absolutely right about the importance of managing the run-off - local council used it on the country park on inclined paths without doing this and six months later it's a right mess, uneven and debonding and puddles everywhere !
Great video Robin, any chance of you doing a house performance video? Your place has a load of high spec tech in it and it would be good to know if there’s anything you would’ve done differently and how it all performs, specially while every thing is inflated. Keep up the great videos, I think we all as viewers learn so much and often use your practices in our work.
We love using Breedon, it works well with steel edging strips (Core-edge etc) for winding contours through woodlands. If you get it flush with the top of the edging strips it can blend in seamlessly with the surrounding soil for a very unobtrusive natural looking finish.
Fantastic looking job Robin. Great recording and informative show. I’ve got a huge courtyard 60m x 14m and paths. How would it handle cars and vans turning on it.
Hi Michael, It is widely used for drives and there is information about this at Breedon's website, link in this video description, thanks for watching and your kind words!!!
I live near Brendon and done some work close to there, when they’re blasting it’s so strange to feel the ground shake ,breedon on the hill is a lovely place to walk around especially up to the church. Pointless info but there you go
Hi there, we no longer blast at our Breedon Quarry where our Breedon Golden Amber self-binding gravel is produced. The blasting vibration you may experience sometimes will be from our much larger Cloud Hill Quarry which sits just on the outskirts of Breedon on the Hill.
@@marlowjoinery9783 that's right, it will be from Cloud Hill Quarry, it isn't very far from Breedon Quarry at all which will explain why you can hear and feel the blasts sometimes 😊
Cracking job as always. Looks brilliant. Did you consider using something like a corten steel edging? Could look excellent in this situation. £££ though. Would create a more sweeping curve as opposed to the corners created using square timber
I wondered what they dug out of Breedon Quarry, its near Derby and has a Church sitting above it which might limit the amount they can pull out of the little place!
Hi there, don't worry - there's still plenty of Breedon rock to be carefully milled without disturbing the fantastic Church of St. Mary and St. Hardulph ⛪
Hi, thanks for your comment, the scalping I laid where about 100 to 150 on firm ground, my path is just for human traffic, I believe if there is vehicles then it needs to be more
Fantastic looking path and another great job Robin. Just wondering how clean it is compared to say a washed gravel? Are you going to be pulling fines into your house on the bottom of your shoes?
Hi Mate, I was worried about that but once it has set and had a couple of rain showers over it there is not really any milky stuff over it so as yet I have not witnessed any light coloured footprints indoors!!!
Hi, it's a good question. Breedon Gravel is purely natural material with no bitumen or binder and so there can be an element of pick up on shoes from time to time. We always advise that there is a hard-standing area (ie paving) covering around 2m2 directly leading to property entrances to help alleviate this.
Looks stunning. We’re having our drive done at the end of this month in exactly this product, 350 square meters. We have looked at everything, tarmac, block paving, gravel, concrete, and resin, but the practicality and aesthetics of this product justifies the cost. Just out of interest, how much MOT did you put down first?
For my path I used between 100 and 150mm but for a drive I would aim for a minimum of 150mm compacted in layers if the ground underneath is stable, when I did my drive that you saw the Breedon Lorry reversing on was originally garden, we excavated to 300mm and then used type 2 for 200mm and roller compacted that, then added 100mm of type 1 MOT over that and its a solid as a rock!!
Great job , myself i would have liked to had it flush with the top of the edging so the water could over flow. Never used this product so don’t know if that’s possible
Hi Robin. Quick question, could you use a manual hand tamper if you were using breedon in a small area and still get the fines to rise? Thinking of using breedon as a dining area base but would be way smaller than your job. Thabk you.
Hi Robin, I live in NZ and have never heard of MOT, when I tried to Google it I got vehicle testing? Could you please explain? Many thanks and kind regards Rob
Hi Rob, sorry about not thinking that the term we use is not more widely known, it simply means Ministry of Transport and complies with the Department of Transport Specification for Highway Works, clause 803
Impressive stuff as always Robin. Do you happen to know what the main goal in a man's life is? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . that whoever dies with the most "toys" wins!
Hi Sam, I would say that this it works out about £60 to £70 per m2 for creating a path like this allowing for the sub base of between 100 and 150mm of MOT, the path edging, the Breedon gravel and the labour and hire of plant etc, this is based on a fair quantity say over 50m2 hope that helps
That Breedon is lovely stuff isnt it.... When you do the top layer to bring it up to the retaining board height put a bigger camber on it so all the water runs off the sides properly. Otherwise you will have a river in heavy rain which will rut it badly. 2 inches high in the middle should be perfect.
I could be wrong but 2 years ago Robin laid a very different colour Composite Prime decking there…now that appears to have been ripped up and a different colour is there….that’s a £15k deck right there…twice
I have changed the deck as the colour was to light for the setting, this has been lifted and moved to be re laid after the winter at the rear of the summer house, so apart from un screwing the existing deck and moving it I am no worse off, as we where planning on the rear deck anyway
Some ppl do that - my wife didn’t like the colour of our new £2.5k composite fence so we replaced it with a different colour. Once we had a carpet fitted she didn’t like and we replaced it the following week!
That's the beauty of composite prime 20/20. It's ,double sided so you can flip it. I bought some after seeing Robin use it, and so glad I did. Infinitely better than traditional decking.
Blower for loose debris on low power, it will go green if in shady damp areas, but this can be gently brushed or treated the surface self scarifies and there is a loose gravely finish, its pretty hardy

This is not available anymore and the gravel you used does not have the same quality and properties as I’ve used it as well. You have constructed a foot path of sorts ,but it is most definitely not a Bredon Gravel path ,but in the style of . I’m sure your path will do the job , but not have the unique feel of the Bredon Hill gravel.
Hi there Dennis, Breedon Gravel is very much still available. It has been produced for many years and there has never been any issue with production. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss any future requirements 😊
Hi - in it's early life stilettos are fairly likely to leave an imprint - however - over time and with use the product gains strength and so it becomes less likely. Also the top surface scarifies to leave a light dressing of chippings and so any small indents would not be visible.
It takes lots of time to film, edit and publish content to YT the revenue generated from the adverts from YT will take many many months to cover basic costs so it is inevitable that I will partner with brands from time to time to collaborate so I can keep my content free for people to watch, my aim has always been to simply share my experiences before I retire to help others, Do you know of a more subtle way for content creators to cover their costs and pay the bills??
You should use some non woven fabric between the type 1 and the clay. This will stop contamination and consolidation between the sub base and subsoil. 🫡
Now that is a Robin-Clevett-spec path!!
Good tip re the metal bars through though the middle of the timber edging to hold them in place!
