This song was so touching. My husband was diagnosed with dementia around the time we first heard it. Unlike what Glen wrote about himself in this song when he said she would be the last person he'd remember, I was the first one my husband forgot. He remembered me from time to time. He died three years after diagnosis.

This song had a video of him and also some of his better times, dancing, the kids playing.

This is perhaps one of the saddest and deepest tunes around. One, it's probably the last ever opportunity to hear the WC together again (we've since lost Glen, Hal, and Joe). And the whole stark reality of what Alzheimer's does to the mind.

Glenn Campbell was a force of music that we shall never see again. His guitar playing was second to none across all the landscape of music.
This good bye moves the soul.
    God Bless you Glenn Campbell

My dad got Alzheimer's at the age of 54 back in 1983 when there wasn't any medication to slow it down. He was a man of 180 lbs & thick wavy hair. He was an awesome painter of portraits & landscapes. Within 6 months he forgot how to do all the things he loved. Within 2 years he looked like a 90 year old man & skin & bones. A laid up in bed in a Veterans Hospital curled up in the fetal stage for another 8 years before he passed away. the doctor said the only thing that kept him alive for so long was that his heart was as strong as a 20 year old.

My Dad passed away from dementia/alzheimers, i cannot get thru it without tearing up, the saddest two and a half minutes ever in a song. My Dad was in a nursing home, couldnt walk, talk, feed himself, he was like a new born baby, totally helpless. i remember going to see him, he had a helmet on his head in case he fell over, The last time i saw him i took his hand and he squeezed mine and wouldnt let go, i like to think that somehow someway he knew who i was for that brief moment. I sure do miss you Dad.

Grade A+ 10! Such a sad way to go out but He did it with his head held high and love if Family and His Lord. I watch this occasionally. Once you hear a song as powerful as this, it's difficult not to keep them in your playlist. Glen was such a Talent!

@@ReactionsToTheClassics It actually bothers me more because my parents had the happily ever after in love fairy tale marriage for 51 years. Now she's watching her youngest and only daughter having similar problems like Dad. I know how hard my diagnosis hit her and I don't want to trigger painful memories of him. He knew me and Mom when he died but not my brothers. As much as my health stinks, all I want to do is to move but my brain can't figure that out. Being on a beach at an ocean reduces the severity of my symptoms so moving is the obvious way to extend my time on earth. I sincerely thank you for your comment! Hopefully you and your loved ones are all healthy!!

A tragic life and even more tragic death. But one of the most accomplished guitar players that side of rock n roll. Ask any rock guitarist considered great and they will tell you the same. And another great musician and contemporary who many who listen to rock are barely aware of is Roy Clark. Both were musician's musicians. Stay safe and stay well. Regards from Sacramento.

Wow, This is the last song Glen Campbell recorded? That is awesome. This song won a Grammy for best Country song? That is great. You guys are right, this is an emotional song. It is a powerful ballad. The lyrics are bittersweet. I agree Trey that the piano sound is similar to the Lennon song Jealous Guy. The reaction by you guys is emotional. I understand why you feel it unnecessary to rate this song. Very moving song.

Very moving song, but I didn't think the production suited it all that well, would have liked it more if it had been a lot more stripped back, but that's just personal taste. Not sure if this is true (if it's wrong you won't remember who told you, so I'm covered either way I guess) but I've heard that a good way to stave off dementia is regularly listening to new music...so as long as you guys keep up the channel you should be good!

Nobody is going to understand the depth of this song unless you're dealing with a mother or father, or brother and or sister who has dementia.
Sucks to visit my dad and he doesn't know who I am. Now my mother is showing signs of dementia.

@@ReactionsToTheClassics I cry every time after I visit my dad.
He was so sharp, and clever.
Dementia is one of the hardest diseases to deal with. For him, all is normal. For us, it's an undesirable emotional type of torture seeing him fade away into nothingness.
