First Casualty places you with Team Alpha as the CIA rides into battle on horseback alongside the warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum. Team Alpha’s Mike Spann, a former Marine, and David Tyson, a polyglot former Central Asian studies academic, seize America’s initial opportunity to extract intelligence from men trained by bin Laden-among them a young Muslim convert from California. The prisoners revolt and one CIA officer falls-the first casualty in America’s longest war, which will last two decades. The other CIA man shoots dead the Al-Qaeda jihadists attacking his comrade. To survive, he must fight his way out against overwhelming odds.

Jonny M,Spann was supposed to have been put out of his misery by another American because he was either being led away or that would have been the end result & torture.
I heard it today on a podcast & I'm 90% sure it was this 🇬🇧 guy talking who mentioned it.
I listened to the same podcast and Damien Lewis is a legitimate person author so I believe that to be true.

There is film footage by a danish camera crew where at the prison on the day it kicked off. And they caught the sbs guys in action in the ramparts of the fort.
Not sure if the documentary is still online. It was an insane firefight.
Yep I remember watching years ago, unfortunately I don’t remember the title of video. It was a documentary that showed the whole situation and the guys holed up in the prison talking about their colleague getting shot.

Interesting, many thanks for the narrative. I slways wondered what happened to Dave Tyson, i see and hear hes doing ok, which is good. I had some brief contacts (not shooting😅) with the Agency in southern Iraq back in the day, enough said. Great podcast!

Dummy Rumsfeld should have accepted the talibans offer to hand over bin laden . But he would have had to show proof that bin Laden actually was guilty - something that would be difficult as all lines pointed to Saudi Arabia and the Carlisle group .
Bin Laden was guilty as sin, and remember 9/11 wasn’t the first time he messed with the hornets nest 🇺🇸. Remember the 1998 embassy bombings, the USS Cole… that alone should have gotten the Taliban to hand over Bin Laden
