    Referees are known as umpires, you have three types of umpires: Field umpires make decisions on fair play, illegal contact and marks; boundary umpires run the side lines and judge out of bounds play and throw the ball back into play. The goal umpires signal the scores either goals(6 points) or behinds(1 point). There is a lot of pressure on the umpires as the rules are open to interpretation and the crowd will often 'rubbish' the umpire if there team gets a decision against it. In the modern day game the clock counts down on the television in the older form of the game it would count up and have time on, which is similar to 'stoppage time' as in the round ball game.

    That kick by Malcolm Blight (#1) is the GOAT. Never seen anything like that. Legendary. Best thing is, he wasn't worried about the distance. As he moves in to kick he has his head over the ball taking aim at the goals. He was only worried about the accuracy.

    Yeah if you hit a post, you get one, if you get it in the outer gaps its a point, if you get it in the middle its 6 points, they have to bounce the ball on the ground every 15 meters. Also if the ball bounces into the goals... its just luck, because you can't predict which way an AFL ball will bounce because of the shape. Its just pure skill to have to bounce the ball while running because if you do it wrong it could bounce way out of reach. LOL... two fingers mean a goal... one finger means a point. There are 4 quarters in an AFL game, each quarter by the clock should go for 20- 30 minutes but if there are injuries or problems, in real-time, much longer. It's just called quarter time, half time and full time. Plus at half time there is a 20-minute break so players and watches can chill down, cos blood pressure for sure goes up. 13:53 they didn't win yet but I can't really tell they counted up then... now they count down till the siren goes, they were in the 4th quarter... so the last quarter. LMAO sorry for the giant comment, I just thought it might help AHA 😅

    @idekwhattonamethis4372 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You’re right about the scoring. If u hit the post or the outside goals, u get one point (behind) and if u get it in the middle, it’s a goal and it’s worth six points

    No. 37 is the longest kick from the biggest man on the field but No. 1 [medium sized man] is after the final siren and turned a loss into a win. This guy has been on the field the entire game, kicked at least 3 [maybe 4] other goals in this final quarter and all were different. I think this is also a finals game.

    If the ball hits one of the shorter, outside posts, the boundary umpire throws the ball deep into the filed, which is contested by 2 nominated players, much like a jump-ball in basketball. No score for that. If the ball hits one of the larger, inner posts, it is scored as 1 point (called a "behind"). 1 point also for kicking the ball between a tall and short post, whether or not it is touched by another player. The best score is the 6 points for kicking a goal - between the 2 larger posts. If the ball is touched by another player after the kick, it is counted only a behind - 1 point. A goal is scored only if prior to going between the tall posts, it comes off a player's boot belonging to the attacking team. Doesn't mater if it touches the ground or not.

    ROFL you made me laugh, so I will comment.. That last kick was about 1/2 of the field, probably about 70 meters (100 yards) - which can only be done with a trick kick of the football called a "torpedo" - which is really hard to execute, but involves kicking the ball in such a way so that it twists as it moves forward, much like a typical NFL player might throw it, with some spin to gain better distance. But, hell, nice goal!

    Each quarter is 20min
    The clock is stopped when a goal is kicked or ball is out off play and started when back in play
    So a quarter can go for normally 30-35 min
    A goal is when the ball goes between the centre posts off the leg below the knee if it hits the centre post it is one point a point or behind is scored if ball goes between the centre post and the outer post or a defender kicks or carries the ball over the goal lines

  • @barryschwarz
    @barryschwarz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Malcolm Blight's goal-scoring kick deserves to be at number 1. Nearly half the length of the field at about 80 meters (87.5 yards). The final siren had gone so this was the last play, the last kick of the game in a semi-final to earn the right to play in the grand final. It looked impossible at that distance. He kicked a torpedo punt, which spins along the long axis like a gridiron football throw. It gets good distance, but is notoriously difficult to kick with accuracy. His team was behind at the siren, and this unbelievable kick, with all the pressure on the man taking it, won the game. Absolutely legendary. The kick is often put at 90 metres (98.5 yards), which might be right accounting for the whole distance it traveled before hitting the ground behind the goal.

    That last one was Malcolm Blight and is infamous. But you missed a couple, you weren't really looking at the time. There was another where the guy spiraled it from the centre. Then there was Michael Mitchell's run where he bounced it several times (grand final?) and kicked the goal, very fast too. I think he was the first indigenous player to win the Normsmith medal (best on ground in a grand final). Jeremy.

    The ones where they run it from half back are huge because it almost never happens. Even if the end kick isn't hard, the point is that the odds you will beat everyone ahead of you on the ground are almost nil. I played half back and never ran it from half back to kick a goal. Not even close. Maybe bounced it twice, once. You need to bounce it like 6 times from there. Some of those off the ground and deep in the pocket are rare as hens teeth too.

      Its the best game in the world, not being biased at all. Our Players arent paid millions every year, so the love between club, players and supporters is far greater, where as in soccer or american football, its treated as more of a business, trade anyone, get the best players, pay them millions, win. The supporters/members own the club, not millionaires and billionaires. Players are recruited to a club at 17 or 18 and their game is developed, thats another reason players love their club and teammates way more. Commentary is better as well, nfl is a snooze fest when it comes to commentators. Do a reaction to a full game.

    If the ball hits the points post it is no score as it can be call out on the fall or if it bounces then hits the pole it will be a throw in if the ball hits the goal post it is class as a point

      Craig Dart, That's right, if the ball hits either of the tall goal posts its a behind (worth 1 point) and if the ball hits either of the smaller point posts its out of bounds (no score).

    lecca's heel goal was the best, and of course rioli's shin goal at the grand final!

    That final kick was Malcolm Blight. The game was over & Carlton had won by 4 points but Blight had a kick a minute after the game finished & changed the end. No-one else in the league could've kicked that distance but Blighty was always a tradigious kick of the ball. I watched him play in South Australia on TV, before he went to Victoria & also live once in my home town, Broken Hill in New South Wales. The resulting kick was measured at 104 yards. It was from about 20 yards from the centre of the field but landed several rows back in the crowd. I was watching that game & was barracking for Carlton, who lost. Blighty was a genius footballer but there were bigger kicks than him. I don't think he can be found but Noel Pentingill often kicked the ball 80 yards plus. He was also from South Aus...

    Willie Rioli and Nic Naitanui have some great grabs and goals
    I recommend some after the siren goals, nic Nat marking but mostly just Willie rioli highlights, he is an amazing player in only his first year

      Yeah no problem. I literally feel like making my own best goals of all time compliation because theres not a good new updated one on TH-cam but i can't be stuffed lol. Some of those goals made me embarrased though, they were good but no where near top 50 of all time. Great reaction though and it's still a good video by whoever made it but there were heaps missing

    Those "vintage" clips you're seeing are still relatively new. AFL has been around since 1897, making it the oldest coded football game in the world.
