Nice to see u using Mannol 7908. Same stuff i buy on ebay or Autodoc. No need for expensive longlife if u change oil every 5000. My 2016, F22 only has 38,000 miles so think it will be a keeper. The project 986 is still in progress.
I prefer the 7715, it is just a little more expensive but it has VAG 504/507 approval which is a very hard spec to meet. It meets LL04 as well of course.
Sadly most of us on here would be buying a used one that more than likely had the first few years of it’s life being serviced at 18k and more. Damage already done sadly. It’s an absolute scandal that these manufacturers have been and are still getting away with putting out this blatant misinformation on service intervals, all in the pursuit of yet more profit. Thank for the video anyway, George. And yes do them anyway but sadly just hope for the best longevity wise.
Lovely to see an N47 breaking 200k miles and still going strong 😊 I still have an M57 330d and for a while have fancied upgrading to a 530d F11, but convinced myself it's just not worth the risk of the timing chain issues 😅 Guess I'm waiting for the B series engine cars to come down in price a bit now 😂
@@GeorgeAusters And then have it break after 20k miles.. those engines are not for high mileages, they are very unpredictive and unreliable. Cheers bud!
not related to this but i like ur vids just wondering i have a 2013 118i msport and when i turn my heating off in the car in makes a weird noise for a few seconds like a creaking noise any advice ? thanks
Great video, thanks. Often wonder where the idea of servicing or changing the oil and filter at 5k miles originated from? Given manufacturers spend millions on research and development building engines/gear boxes and experiment with different grades of oils to ensure longevity of the engine/gearbox and keep service costs down, why do this outwith the recommended service intervals?
It's because BMWs service interval of 14k miles is too long. The oil becomes sludgy and has the potential to cause excessive wear and strain on the timing chains. That is why people change the oil way before the manufacturers service interval. 👍🏻
George I have the N47 engine And the engine block it's self has started to shake very badly and it's more noisy than it use to be when I first bought it but it had a oil change and filter change before I just bought it but I have only drove it 4K and the engine sounds more noisy and engine block is shaking ? 🤔
@MrWaheedulHaque I'm on 80K maybe it's the engine mounts not sure tbh think I will just take it to a trustable and experienced mechanic so many cowboys out their have to be carefull who's hands you let your car go into as they can all fix them and have experience but if they haven't worked on many BMW sometimes they can make things worse
@@3rdbanwavey121 yeah i had a mechanic look it over today he said its normal on diesels, my uncles one has much worse vibration and he had it for 5 years without issue so maybe it just is how it is haha
Hi mate, I've just bought a bmw 320d estate e91 es model my steering feels really stiff is there a easy fix for this? Or is it more of a garage job or a way I can find out myself what's causing this looking forward to your reply cheers jordan.
@@watkinsprice the e90s have stiffer steering than other cars, especially with the sports steering wheel. Are you sure its not functioning correctly? If you have hydraulic steering, check the colour of your fluid, it should be green, and check for leaks
@christoph3915 hi the fluid is basically brown like dirty water/ will replace soon another thing I've just noticed if u can help me is going over 40mph there's a constant whining/whistling sound coming from left side of engine if your looking at it any ideas what that might be?
@@watkinsprice left side of the engine is the turbocharger, it may be on its way out. I would take off the intake piping and check the turbo shaft for play and see if its already throwing lots of oil. There will always be a litlle oil there coming from the pcv, but if its a lot around the turbine, you might need another turbo. Check for oil consumption over your next couple hundred miles
If its truly only dependent on speed tho, it might just be some plastic wind deflectors on the side of the windshield or the rubber seal on top of the windshield. Engine should make the same sounds at same revs, doesn't care about speed
George what oil filter do you recommend on a 320d Msport? I'm sick of different oil filters being suggested and so many different part numbers. Ta.2012 build.

I currently run the cheapest one you can find on autodoc, by ridex. Im in germany and i like to push my car decently hard on the Autobahn and so far, after 2000kms i had no issue. I will update in a couple of months at the time of the next oil change how it visibly held up

just serviced mine for 190 000 km...great content keep them good videos coming.

@simonh870 might try that next time as its still cheap if you buy 20L for £60
@@arnietwo11 It is often cheaper than that if you catch it whilst ebay has a discount. I have bagged a drum for £45 before now.

😂😅
Get that missing under cover sourced and fitted 😊

Very true, and even beyond that. All well and good having a full service history but you can never really 100% trust previous owners

Not a fan of the promo. Prefer MANN filters (OEM).

It comes from the fact that sticking to the manufacturers guidelines causes premature engine failure.
