    Yes I just carved my own stamps. I was very scared to do it but it was much easier than I thought! I had done it 45 years ago in print shop! I was the only girl in my print shop class!

      I bet today you’d be hard-pressed to find a boy in a print making shop :-) I’m glad you did it, the materials we use now make it a lot easier

    Absolutely fascinating Elizabeth. You are without a doubt one of the most creative artists on Social Media. And you have an incredible eye for shapes that work (evidence - your stamp and stencil designs). Love what you did with the skirt!

    Lovely! I've carved my own stamps for years, many of them on flat erasers. I even take advantage of the sides of the erasers, carving patterns into them. I find it therapeutic, too. Had not thought of a meat pounder for a baren - brilliant! (my vintage one has spikes on it and wouldn't work). However, in the baking department, there is a flat tool with a handle for smoothing icing, I believe, that should work nicely, too, and is far less expensive than a baren. Skirt is adorable and so fun!!

    • @ElizabethStHilaire
      @ElizabethStHilaire  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done that on erasers too Sue! The pounder worked great! didn't slide well, but gave good pressure. oh no spikes!! LOL I linked mine below. ICING perfect... thanks so much

    I did linoleum block carving with my junior high school art classes for many years. This new material looks lots easier. One important tool I had in my classroom was a bench hook. It is flat piece of plywood with wood strips on the ends.. one on each side. I made them myself (30 of them!), but you can buy one as well out of metal from Speedball. The bench hook hooks onto the edge of the table and keeps your carving block from skooting around and keeps your hands out of harms way. If you cut a V notch in the top end strip it makes it easier to cut various angles. Saved a lot of little kids fingers!

    • @ElizabethStHilaire
      @ElizabethStHilaire  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I know the bench hook! This material is really easy to carve, like butter. I have carved linoleum and it is difficult, for sure. Thanks so much for the info Regina!

    I absolutely love that skirt! So fun! I’ve only done stamp-carving one time. I took Art in my senior year of high school (in the 70’s). I remember really enjoying the process of carving and the anticipation of how it would come together at the end. I got an “A” in that class, by the way [insert patting myself on the back here]. My favorite of your stamps today is the long stem with the round leaves. Thanks for adding some extra happiness to my morning today! ☀️ 🪴

    Elizabeth, love the flowers. Hard to pick a favorite but I will anyway. I’m leaning to the sparklier flower. It reminds me of am allium seed head. The skirt is wonderful and beautifully reflects you personality and creativity. I would like to try making my own stamps but I have decided I need to start doing and not get distracted by every new idea or technique that I see. I saw a video of another TH-cam'er that was doing gelli printing on paper and for a baren they used the round cardboard lid from the top of a carton of ice cream like Edy's. Works in a pinch! I love all your videos and and have learned so much!

    • @ElizabethStHilaire
      @ElizabethStHilaire  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, that wouldn’t work. You have to have something that applies good solid pressure, something rigid

    • @carolnacarato4448
      @carolnacarato4448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see why you would think it might not work but it gives you a flat surface to put the knuckles of your hand to apply pressure to the gelli plate. I agree that it wouldn't work for stamping on fabric, especially denim, but it works on paper with a gelli plate.

    • @ElizabethStHilaire
      @ElizabethStHilaire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carolnacarato4448 I use my finger tips and heels of my palms to push the paper into the open spaces of my stencils and masks so I prefer to use my hands on the gel plate. :)
