Having played fighting games at the highest level for years, with honesty I can say this is the best guide on combat in a video game I have ever watched. I was trying to find a solid guide for my friends to learn the game. Watched all the way through and there was NO wasted space here 6 minutes and 52 seconds of gold.
Wanted to say that I've just watched this and completely agree - such a helpful guide that revisits key learnings from each stage. Are you a teacher by any chance? Haha.

Amazing video, even though I'm an intermediate player, I watched it in its entirety. It's definitely a video that should be included in Naraka's in-game video section. If I ever manage to convince one of my friends to play the game I will definitely show them the video. 🥰
this is the type of depth of guide I was missing when I tried a while back and it didn't click, thank you so much, everything is clicking now thanks to you
This video is FANTASTIC. I have fighting game background and I was picking up a lot just from casual play and some practice. I decided to look up some guides when I realized how much depth there actually is here. You explained the combat flow very well and opened my eyes to multiple possibilities. I also now know why I often times lost light attack interactions instead of clashing!! Keep up the great work!!
bruh this is an actual useful guide, the others r pretty useless and shallow in comparison assuming they probably assume players already know everything about the game. I barely even know the basic mechanics of the games, this literally explained so many things and helped me out so much. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really nice guide! I am a new/intermediate player and checked out your videos after I found your in-depth Kurumi guide on the naraka discord. Great content and I would love to see more :D
Wow I’ve been playing this game for about 3-4 months or 3 ingame seasons and never understood why sometimes I just get destroyed without not being able to do much in this game but here is the much needed explanation/guide for combat just sitting here in yt much thanks
Hi, I can relate to commenting very little and I feel honored by your comment. If you think my videos are worth it, please make an exception in your “no comments policy“ because the TH-cam algorithm really likes interaction (comments, shares, rewind) and your comments will ultimately help my videos reach more people. People who can learn the game and make naraka more popular.
If you’re learning the game on katana maybe learn the basic katana grapple combo (the one that hits the blue focus after the grapple slam). Then focus on catching the enemy and not getting caught. This stuff is more important than combos. Once you’re winning the neutral consistently against decent players you can revisit katana combos or move on to learning another weapon. I personally don’t play katana that much, but I don’t think sliding uppercut and knowing many combos on katana is important for a new player, except if you play Tarka in solos. It’s better to learn the basics of all weapons and play different characters in 0ban and ranked until you understand how they all work.
My heart, brain and thumbs thank you my good sir. New to Naraka and THIS video gives so much clarity. Hope you have some more recent tricks up, cause you got a sub.
Amazing video, this model truly adds an entirely new level/dimension to general fighting mechanics; especially if you use jumps or parry’s in between combo stages. Great work and ty for helping me develop my skill
Pretty solid explanation of the overall flow of combat in the game. At 5:43 you mentioned the 2nd jA is not true but if you do it fast enough it is as the enemy won't have touched the ground yet, maybe another weapon would have served as a better example. Also might have been interesting to talk about why a character can roll or not from wake up (which also includes restands), as it is very important to understand which move can be used as a tech chase attack.
This guide is great and concise. Although the title is misleading, this info is definitely out there (other than I don’t think I e ever called neutral referred to as negotiation) but regardless I’m glad I watched because it was a quick and efficient refresher and I’ll come back and watch a few more times.
there was no model of naraka combat in 2022 when i made the video, just fragmented info like "parry beats blue focus", individual combos etc. but the point of the title is to make people click the video, and as long as they get something valuable out of it, they will stay and watch it to the end. it's working as far as i can tell
Newer player here. Watched a couple videos hoping to find exactly this one. I didn't know how people were doing what they were doing to me, no odea how to get out of it. Love this stuff. Very well explained and the model reflects the flow of combat way better than the rock paper scissors thing. I'll be recommending this video to people for sure :)
Great video. I like your systematic approach on explaining. Could you make a video on blue hold checking? On how to read their response and the appropriate reaction?
Thanks for the video, just getting into the game since it’s release on console and looking to improve my combat skills found this very helpful. Although I am on console the concepts explained are the same just the inputs are different te not since on a remote.
Man, nice theory of combat modeling about this magnificent game! Indeed, I'd say you regrouped ideas about CPUs algorithms from computer science, and content-negotiation from http protocols also as references, am I right? What impressed me the most is that your modeling is just fitting in the knowledge-graph I was trying to create, intuitively, to help me understand the phases of this game, RPC was too generalist to me, lol. Thank you for efforts and explanation, pal!!
That's the part that requires the most practice. There are some difficult combos and niche tech chases, but the main challenge is about getting priority in fights, and that's what any new player should focus on before learning fancy combos.
@@hanasmell maybe it's not visible because it's not currently available. some chinese spear skins are also not visible in the list because there is no way to get them right now. need to wait till they return to shop
one major problem i'm having is, getting stunlocked by longsword, staff and spear with "H-CH-H". i would escape by spamming dodge or combobreak with F but get hit again with the same light loop. obviously i'm doing something wrong for the fight to go back to neutral. dodging lets me escape for a second only for their loop attack to hit me after my s as gone.
it sounds like you're spamming holddodge instead of specifically timing your dodge and/or mixing up your reactions. if all you do is holddodge and it's not working, try other things like tapdodge, double dodge, s-dodge, repair dodge, hold blue, light attack, even double jump into grapple, and change up your timing (tech chases depend on enemy timing as well, some people expect you to do a certain thing at the earliest timing available and want to punish you, so doing it a little later might work great) i don't want to give too specific advice here, the general learning is to try out different reactions against different types of attacks and figure out what works and what doesn't. do not mash the same button 100 times and expect different results
at the end of a combo, choose an option you think the enemy won't tech chase (dodge in different ways once or twice or hold blue, depending on what you expect the enemy to do). make sure to mix it up
Hi, are you able to do a guide on movement? I don't understand how people move so quickly. Anytime I get in a fight with a high ranked player, I just can't move fast enough and if I need to get away, even using all my grapples, they seem to move much faster.
Only down side is this is for pc more focused. Not console. But thank you for the very detailed combat tutorial!!! I'll defently try to adapt this to console
I could learn all this and still not improve because of how unoptimised the game is towards the end of the game im on 60/144 fps for a fighting game that need precise inputs its just impossible to do this
The combat system in this game is so convoluted. I don't know why they couldn't just do a simple light + heavy attack system with parries. In this game, everybody just spam attacks you to death while you ragdoll, unable to move.
I love these ideas… but sometimes other players connections are red and makes this system just a guessing game. I’ll often be con king while the opponent is just walking and I’m taking game from them for no reason. So I just avoid those players with bad connections and come back to them when necessary.
what happens on their screen is somewhat unpredictable to them too, you can always try to parry from a safe distance where they can't punish if you miss, or shoot or scalerush them. it's awkward for them too and i don't think there are many players who manage to consistently play well on red ping; you should be able to kill them
Hey man, I work for a melee combat game similar to Naraka. We start playtests this month and I was asked to go find some Naraka streamers interested in playing. Is there a way for us to talk, if you're interested?

Nakaka. Better technique. Play healer support. Give yourself, and ally immunity to priority. Take priority. You can also play any character with a stun, and cheat, and steal priority.
Cool video but i started playing naraka a few days ago and i keep being placed in matches against top100 players, what do i do ? :) i cant learn anything, i practice in the training range a bit but then i cant go apply any of the things i am trying to master in real matches because i am getting rolled. I am really asking if there is anything i could do about the trash matchmaking ?
Get good. If it's too stressful to play Ranked, play customs until you're comfortable The matchmaking in Ranked is alright, it's just that the top players are also the most active, so you run into them a lot. The alternative would be long queue times, so it'd say accept the matchmaking and try to learn from each encounter, or stay in customs for now
Let me contextualize this, I mostly play trios, but I got into Solos to train some things i can't learn in trios that well, mechanical things, movement, chasing, punishing specific Fs, etc I can kill most players I run into, but in most of my lobbies, there are 1-2 players that are way better than me. For example, when I run into nono, jiaqi or spuuner, I die most of the time. So I have 15-20k average damage, a good KDR but a low win rate. I could cry about it and quit naraka, or just record my gameplay, rewatch the fights and understand what they did to kill me. In a few more weeks, it should go better against them. Don't celebrate being a victim of an evil system, instead have a mindset that empowers you
Then how do I avoid being tech chase. Can you make a video about ways to recover after being combo. All I know is hold dodge and many people just caught me in another combo after that.
This game would actually be 10 million times better if there was a block button. Just Block any attacks of course only being able to block so much but still being able to block whenever you desire would make this game so much more of a skill based game instead of a concept of rock paper scissors.
i have a question, does weapon type matter when fighting? I always loses when I try to directly fight polearm/heavysword. because of that I often wait to counter it or just runs away,
sure you have to play differently based on which weapon you are fighting, and you should also test your opponent and try to study their habits in the first few interactions

call it neutral if you like, but neutral isn't properly defined. to some people 1ban is neutral, to others 3ban is neutral in naraka. so you might as well give it a name that captures what it's about

i wanna get better cause theres so much chinese changing servers, the video is super useful
Chinese changing severs? What do you mean?
@@Penemue ia it just normal to see asian people playing on american servers? lol
@@yuvrrq every 6th person on earth is chinese. the game has much marketing in china but little outside of asia, so the vast majority of players on any server are chinese.
99% of the people with chinese names you see on non-chinese servers are chinese people living in the region they play on.
if you die to someone with a chinese name, it's not a ping abusing hacker who dedicates their live to ruining the gaming experience of innocent westerners, but an exchange student or expat worker from china who wants to enjoy low ping and a stable connection to their closest server, same as you
you can very easily verify this by making friends with the chinese people you encounter on NA server
source: i'm a secret service agent of the eastern bloc who was hired to mislead people like you by telling them the truth. we've tried fake news all these years, now people expect us to lie so we started telling the truth. what a plot twist!
jokes aside, the "chinese ping abuser myth" has been around since launch and it's simply not true. i wouldn't play the game for 2+ years if i was a constant victim to evil exploits
How to avoid tech chases?
Mix up how you recover after enemy combo (for example, don’t do a single backwards holddodge every time like 99% of new players)
@@Penemue oh yeah i do that. By mixing up u mean?
@asura8971 just don’t do the same thing all the time. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Just don’t be insane 👍
Should you use melee aim assist? I'm on keyboard and mouse and I turned it off when I started the game, but I see a lot of videos where it looks like they have it, but idk.
melee aim assist always on, grapple aim assist should be set to automatic / manual
@@Penemue thank you 🙏
It’s like a less complicated for honor
Can you show me how to make your kurumis face
The WHAT stage ?
call it neutral if you like, but neutral isn't properly defined. to some people 1ban is neutral, to others 3ban is neutral in naraka. so you might as well give it a name that captures what it's about
Am confused, what is clmb? I'm on Xbox, so I think terminology is different.
C = crouch
Lmb = horizontal attack
Rmb = vertical attack
A1 A2 A3 = horizontal 123
B1 B2 B3 = vertical 123
