I still can't believe Shad backtracking about freaking out about Peach wearing pants was "oh, i didn't know she had a reason to wear pants instead of the dress because didn't have context" WHY DO WOMEN NEED A REASON TO WEAR PANTS!?!?!
My favorite part is the assertion that wearing pants is erasing her femininity. A skin-tight pink and white bodysuit? Nothing feminine about that, no sir!
I think his point was more related to source-material inaccuracy (i.e., Peach wears a dress in the games) more than just whinging about women wearing pants. Obviously, he is wrong either way, as was shown in this video.
@@sharathsh9987 if anything it'd be him pretending it was source material related (he knows absolutely nothing about Mario nor cares for it). And was just using that as a cover for his blatant sexism
"WOKE! WOKE! WOKE!" "Uh oh, the movie actually did well with both critics and public. A movie we declared woke can under NO circumstances be successful!" "ANTI-WOKE! ANTI-WOKE! ANTI-WOKE! WE ALWAYS SAID THAT!"
...Did I just see three adult men getting hung up on Princess Peach wearing trousers? EDIT: In hindsight, "adult" was the wrong epithet to use in this case.
6:26 I can't get over the fact the guy actually thought "We were losing our minds over a woman wearing pants in a trailer before we got any context for what we were seeing" was somehow a good comeback. He thought that was actually a check mate moment.
he saved that so well though, instead of looking like an idiot that reacts on short clips of a movie without context, he looked like an idiot that can not see the flaw in doing that and learns nothing from it!
Well, your comment spurred me to try to find out the full context of 6:26 before making fun of it. I regret it deeply. Any criticism a normal person might have of Shad is sort of like a squirrel laughing at a beaver for being wet and eating his own poop. The beaver is going to be like "You don't understand the context. I eat my own poop because I eat my own poop."
@@hypothalapotamus5293 I find it fascinating to see what these woke spotting TH-camrs would like you to forget. This video over all does have a glaring flaw of acting like there no issues in pop culture at all. @@DanielBMS If I put a literal elephant in the room with Shad when he's wearing AI goggles that put his wife's face on everything (and, yes, he does use AI to put his wife's face on everything), he's going to say that the elephant in the room is feminism and go on a diatribe about how it's ruining society... They are grifters not because the media that they criticize are flawless, but because they tend to twist things to fit their culture wars narrative. Is Shad wrong that AAA games are bad these days? No, but Nihilistic capitalism is to blame. He's also a swordtuber who is actually bad at swords.
Meanwhile leftists are still clawing back from when Democrats, Republicans, corporations, the FBI, the CIA and organized religion all teamed up to kill and exile them from the country during the Red Scare. Honestly amazing anyone in the US knows what leftism even is after how much effort went into wiping it out. Then we have conservatives who would have lost every presidential election in the last 20 years if the electoral college didn't exist to give them a handicap. The game's rigged for them and they still have to try this hard to win.

Knowing where woke comes from especially as a black guy is the most infuriating ever. It literally means to just be aware of injustice. How evil do you have to be to turn that into this bogeyman buzzword. I’m sick and tired of these weird moral panics.
Ah, but you see, injustice doesn't exist. America is a meritocracy and saying different makes you a traitor. Therefore pointing out injustice is just stirring up trouble, and that makes the woke the evil ones. Dont you try and twist that around on me. Sarcasm, if that wasn't obvious. I mean, it's really how they think but laying it plain really shows how dumb it is.
Oh please, when the left got its hands on it they morphed it into whatever suited them until it lost a hold. Same with fascist. No one knows what a true fascist is anymore just "oh it's bad". Lefties used to woke to qualify everything from pro civil rights movements to literal revolutionary thought that people like me have no choice but to either call it what it is or go back to calling them communists which is an oversimplification in it of itself.
Get woke go broke refers to corporations going woke, not individual productions. It's talking about how much of a waste of money "woke business ideas" are. Five years after it was first said and the DEI team at Microsoft gets laid off. Obviously a Barbie movie will benefit from being a woke production, I doubt woke gi-joe would do as well.
A lot of these people tend to not be fans of any of this media beyond surface level as well. Any Mario fan will immediately recognize Peach's Mario Kart suit and grin ear to ear at the attention to detail given to the character, but instead they start sobbing at how Peach's femininity is being stripped away by her dawning a skin-tight racing suit for no reason. This applies to many other franchises too, it's just pretending to be fans so they can say "no, my beloved franchise!"
That bothers me, even as someone that didn't play super mario, but is aware of a lot of the lore, the movie made an effort to cram in funny references with reasonable taste just about everywhere. Peach wears her standard pink dress in the beginning, and I personally felt like Peach was written really nicely, and I felt that, after having seen enough female protagonists whose personality is "not like other girls", She was a refreshing takenon a woman thar was thrown into this world as the only individual of her species, and she did end up embracing femininity anyway, be it through her dresses, of how she cares foe the toads or how she even starts flirting with the protagonist and is curious about what comes to her. I expected the mario movie to be really a cashgrab, and it could have been, people would have watched it either way. It kinda sucks to realize that there is a generalized opinion out there, that men prefer a woman without a personality, that a sexualised woman is for some reason, a better pursuit. It's like anything I thought was valuable in femininity, that I appreciated in the characterisation of peach, is not valuable or even noticed.
The little mermaid is another good example! when was the last time anyone of those people actually watched the little mermaid? (Aside from parents or Disney adults) the only actual criticism to be had with Disney was that it’s another nostalgia cash grab and they couldn’t be bothered to make an original black character and movie
Also, what's wrong with de-sexualizing her? It's a movie based on a video game marketed towards children. Harley Quinn didn't wear fishnet stockings in the 90's Batman: TAS. It feels like nerds grow up and expect all media should still cater to them, including the green M&M apparently.🙄
@@suburbantimewaster9620The thing I really think is ironic about that is that they're freaking out about an outfit that comes directly from the games. Peach first wears that outfit in Mario Kart Wii.
@@matt2027what, do these guys want her wearing a dress while ride a bike or motorcycle? Her dress would make it hard to sit down properly, be uncomfortable, and wearing high heels while bike riding is generally a terrible idea.
I got in a discussion with a 40 year old man about how The Simpsons just isn’t the same anymore and he said without irony “go woke go broke”. And it caught me off guard, Simpsons in its prime in the 90’s, the biggest show in the world, was a very left leaning “woke” show. Just shows people will add this label to anything without properly evaluating and understanding the material.
The Simpsons always had their finger on the pulse with current events. They make fun of everyone too. Man is just riding a bandwagon which made him forget his past self.
I honestly feel so bad for the nerds who were just trying to enjoy their interests, and ended up getting radicalised by grifters looking for quick cash.
A good amount of us have come to our senses and realized that most of these losers were just blowing smoke. I, embarrassingly, used to watch Critical Drinker, and The Quartering. My cope is that they weren't always as patently unhinged as they seem now.
@@blinkx1070 it seems to be a common trajectory, a lot of these things start out as a few guys getting drunk and discussing their interests before somebody notices how much audience they have and they get sponsored by a political organisation. One aspect of this seems to be the way that advertising is targeted. For some reason political beliefs seem to be a key metric for advertisers. Just keep in mind that there isn't one big bad political organisation pushing this agenda, there's hundreds of organisations with slightly different agendas. The vast majority of TH-cam is left leaning because Google is left leaning. It doesn't hurt to get some balance in your diet, but in general once you start to notice how political things are they become a lot less interesting. I realise not being political is the same thing as supporting the status quo but it's absolutely exhausting to listen to people virtue signalling all the time and telling you who to be mad at. This video is obviously no exception, the entire runtime is bashing right wing people so it's hard to say that they're not trying to make a political point.
that's what happened to me when the last jedi released when i was in middle school. I basically became a hateful little gremlin spouting buzzwords I didn't fully understand for around 2 years. IDK what happened but i eventually had a “To be honest, when I found out the patriarchy wasn’t about horses I lost interest.” moment before entering high school so it's a shame to see young boys and grown adults become radicalized like how i was in middle school.
@@spiddoodle this is basically what happened to me and virtually the entirety of my high school. I remember starting to watch "SJW gets owned!!!" videos along with commentary of movies I liked complaining of some-sort of "woke apocalypse" that we needed to fight back against or else the gays would groom us all or something. Eventually I was able realise that basically everything they were saying was stupid non-sense but a lot of people I knew are still eating it up. It's sad to watch kids and even some adults get radicalised by all this and I'm worried for the impact it'll have on minorities.
@@SineN0mine3I'm still somewhat like that. I don't necessarily like the terms 'woke' because of its overuse, but people can still be annoyed at things like millennial writing, tumblr humor, 'punching up', inoffensive diversity and inclusion, 'girlboss' archetypes. I know not to go down the rabbitholes like critical drinker, but I still think a lot of media now has become shallow with oversaturated political correctness Even with regard to the games industry, a lot of games are being 'updated' for modern audiences. One example is the Lara Croft collection removing a polynesian character considered offensive, who asked for this? Why are people now so eager to walk on eggshells so not to appear offensive? even when its not And old disney movies get disclaimers now too, but ONLY for racial caricatures. You see kids smoking tobacco in the old pinnochio and even a dead child but the offensive depiction of the minorities somehow takes precedence for a disclaimer?
It's hilarious how we are getting to a point where shows are both woke and not woke depending on the inane point the person calling it woke/anti-woke are trying to make
If a person's initial response to seeing a person of color, a different gender, age, or different sexual orientation in something (not even as a lead role, by the way) is anger, that seems more like a "you" problem. Instead of spending time looking around to see if the Critical Drinker validates that opinion, or harassing the the actors on social media, why not take the time for some soul searching and ask why that is always the initial response?
Well, that would mean that they could possibly come to the conclusion that yes, they are bigots. And since they are too pussy to face the truth, they make up a bunch of shit to gaslight themselves to think otherwise.
You are blatantly ignorant, wokeness is rewarding perceived victims or marginalized groups and give them resources , resource takes many forms from money, clout, handouts, in this context the free resource is representation a resource given to them because they DESERVE IT because they are victim and marganized aka WOKE
It honestly baffles me how someone saw Peter B Parker in the Spider-Verse movies hit a low point in his life and later become a caring and attentive father and thought that was some stain to his character. Or that somehow makes audiences perceive him as inferior to Miles (or any other spider person) because he’s the only “straight white man”. If anything, both Spider-Verse movies just made me appreciate him even more.
They hate when female characters are portrayed as perfect with no character flaws, but they also hate when male characters are portrayed as imperfect with character flaws. These mfs just want power fantasies they can relate to and they can’t admit it
The alt-right tends to think very superficially. Despite the fact that they claim to value good writing, they don't care that Peter is a much better person and in a much better headspace at the end of ITSV. All they care about is the fact that the black guy and the woman are doing most of the physical fighting instead of the straight white man and that mere fact alone is enough for them to argue that Peter's character is "ruined".
yeah he has a fucking solid arch. and peter has ALWAYS been down on his luck, he’s genuinely depressed most of the time. it’s true to his character. they don’t actually want the movies they say they want. what would that be? a cardboard cutout that says “you should like me?” nobody likes conservative art it’s usually really bad. The Lion King is pretty good. i like The 300- super overtly fascist movie but i like it. most of the time it’s bad because it has no heart, i mean i think that’s the simplest i can put it. their media looks like a grift. their movies, their books- often with the word “trigger” or “cancel” in the title -read like a scam. they look visually terrible. maybe it’s a budget issue but really down to the writing they’re using the same rhetorical tricks. feels like you’re being scammed watching them.
I love Peter B. Parker! I know what it's like to hit a low point and barely function, to isolate yourself from others because you worry about them getting hurt. To see him overcome that, become fatherly (something he feared), and then get the family he actually did want is so lovely. The point being that it can get better.
I mean... That's Shad. He's basically living in an escapist fantasy where he goes back to the middle ages so that he doesn't have to deal with women wearing pants. At least he's not like Sargon of Akkad at 8:57 who would like to go back to bronze age Sumeria where only an elite priest caste was literate and there weren't any muslims yet...
As an African American aspiring screenwriter the word “woke” gets more infuriating by the day. Don't know how it went from pointing out social injustices to pointing out anything progressive regardless of judging it based on how good it is. I'm just glad there are more TH-camrs finally starting to call out the eternal grift.
here's how to identify woke in your media: step 1, ask the following questions: can the media, in any way, be possibly interpreted as presenting anything other that the ideals of the 1850s? does the media, in any way, represent any minority in any way beyond them existing neutrally? does the movie give any sort of message that would say that it's in any way okay to be a part of a minority? If you were to hand the media to a Klansman, Nazi, or Confederate would any of them dislike it? did the media, despite not being attributed to any of the previous, fail after launch? step 2: if you answered yest to any of them, you should throw out the entire thing. It's too woke to be saved. Otherwise, congrats, you have a non-woke movie.
Because it was genuinely used in its original meaning. Then leftists started claiming their banana peel with a condom on it (im exaggerating, but it captures the ridiculousness and lack of work put in) was woke and pointed out injustice (stuff like that didnt) Then the conservatives took that basis and applied it to anything considered leftist media. Politics is the new religion. People make it their whole personality and like to virtue signal how much they hate/love something depending on what their party likes. Too many people People have too much time and nothing worth living for nowadays.
@@lazerpie101 Well if the movie is actually progressive and not liberal progressive usually the con's are too stupid and have such little media analysis that you can confuse them into thinking it is making fun of "both sides" a good example of this is "The Boys." Another good example of this is "fight club" famously written by a gay man.
That was one of the goals. Woke was a perfectly usable term to easily define awareness of social injustice that could be used to educate others. This made it a threat. So they co-opt the term and toss it to the chuds to dilute its usefulness and remove a tool for deconstructing oppression. It’s not about good faith discussion, it’s just about making communication harder to keep more people under control. Who is “they”? I dunno. Whoever is profiting most off this anti-woke grifting, so fashy billionaires and their sycophants I guess.
I just think people nowadays are more cautious about anything progressive in a show in fear of it going to far and it leads them to jump the gun on some media
I love how all of you conveniently focus on this instead f the fact that Drinker actually praised both Spiderverse movies, because that doesn't fit your narrative, since by your strawman version of his view of politics in film, he would by necessity have to hate them for being woke.
Saw a guy on twitter who said that they should do a revival of Static Shock. Another guy said they can't because if they did it'd be all about "black issues" and "politics", to which numerous people rightly said that Static Shock has ALWAYS been about that stuff. This person tweeted back that the difference is shows back in the day used to have subtlety but now wokeness has taken over everything. I replied with an actual quote from the show " 'My best friend is gone because of you and your stupid racism' yeah real subtle". So much media that came out pre-2005 would be lambasted for wokeness today. If Alien or T2 came out today these dicks would hate Sarah or Ripley just as much as they do Captain Marvel. They just don't realize they're buying into some culture war grifter's bullshit.
What’s worse is they use Sarah and Ripley to argue how the “strong woman” character is badly written and “forced” today. Wokeness didn’t exist until 2016 indeed.
I mean all fairness to them the most recent Terminator movie killed off John in the first scene and then had Sarah spend the whole movie crapping on herself for being motivated by protecting her son.
@leephillips4402 and the first Alien had Ripley telling a bunch of men not to do something stupid and they all do something stupid and die except for her.
@@pianist150 that's a good example of what would be called "Woke" in this day and age but it dosen't really have anything to do with the point I just made.
@leephillips4402 well my initial point when referring to Static Shock was that things from the “non woke era” that these people love would infuriate them if they came out today. I don’t think the new Terminator thing you mentioned in anyway contradicts or refutes that? Or maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say
That would be fun! I have heard the story of a conservative christian complaining to his pastor that Jesus' words quoted directly from the Bible were woke! 🤣

It’s extremely creepy and alarming to see a grown man watching a princess peach movie that’s made for young children and then see him start complaining about her wearing pants.
It's beyond pathetic, but I don't see any cause for alarm (beyond Shad's monstrous misogyny, of course). The movie was made first and foremost with grown-ass millennials in mind, not kids. The complaint comes from the fact that Peach is supposed to be the damsel in distress who always wears a dress... except in the like dozen the games where she's a playable character, and has been everything from a racer to an action heroine to a fuckin' fighter, but hey, who's counting?

@@matthewharrington9723 That was when woke began... Except Star Trek only 'became' woke when they cast a black woman as the main character. Plus it was a good bit after the year 2000 before that particular Star Trek episode was broadcast in Mississippi, with a warning beforehand. That's back when the anti-woke used to win, one of the biggest parts of the Hayes code that censored Hollywood was about not showing black and white people (of either sex) together UNLESS they were the bad guys, or the black person was a servant, so as not to encourage the races to mix socially. That part of the Hayes code is also where we get "won't somebody think of the children" from. Showing black and white people being friends, or so much worse, lovers would encourage it in real life, and their children wouldn't be black or white, they wouldn't even be human. That's what the phrase actually means, no mixed race kids, not concern over the children seeing violence or bad language.
But Peach is wearing pants in a trailer! Oh, she actually wore a dress in the majority of said trailer? Oh, it's not pants, it's actually her bike suit from Mario Kart? Oh, there's context for it? I DIDN'T KNOW! Shad is so fucking annoying now.
i will say as a more centered right wing person.. the biggest problem i found with media in general is they make fun of the extreme, most right wing people aren't like that and most sensible ones have mixed opinions like how i support vaccines but don't support abortion. tldr: most of us aren't like this. we shouldn't group extremes with the more centred ones.

In other words the far left run the country and the shrieks of white supremacy, patriarchy, fascism, etc are all excuses to oppress the actual victims. I win. Not only does the weakness and powerlessness undermine the bravado of conservatives but the crushing authoritarianism and all encompassing power also completely destroys the idea that the left and their constituents are victims of the system because they control ALL of it and their opponents are the REAL victims speaking truth to power.

As to why movies like Alien aren't being torn apart by the anti-woke squad: they are also being used as a shield. Alien is such a monumental film, and it came out and was decided to be great, way before any of those buffoons were even born. They know that criticizing that would get them laughed out of any room. As someone raised in the conservative culture wars of the 80s and 90s, I see "anti-wokeness" as the newer, louder, more accelerated version of "politically incorrect" (e.g. reactionary conservative) rhetoric. It's the latest strain of "Rush Limbaugh yells about Mulan existing" or "my dad is angry that Princess Leia is a good shot". I wasn't allowed to watch Ghostbusters media as a kid because it was "demonic". Anything with a female protagonist or a prominent character of color was "PC" and therefore bad--yes, including the Alien and Terminator movies. Disney was on thin ice with my family because they kept putting out movies that portrayed white Christians negatively--e.g. Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. (Never mind that I went to church with hundreds of Frollos and knew them inside and out already.) For some reason, the summary of the phenomenon that I keep returning to is an episode of Gargoyles. The characters (time-displaced fantasy creatures from 10th-century Scotland) encounter a cave containing the ghosts of two people they knew back home. Both ghosts are animated by their eternal loathing for each other and the main characters, but over the course of the episode, one of the ghosts discovers he was mistaken and has been holding a pointless grudge for centuries. By the end of the episode, one ghost forgives and moves on to an implied afterlife while the other remains trapped in the cave. The last we hear of him, he's screaming at the heroes' retreating backs: "Don't leave me here with no one to hate!" As a kid, I thought the line was corny, but it stuck with me. I hear it echo in my ears every time I see what you call "wokespotters" desperately trying to find new targets for their viewers' rage. They really are that unsubtle. Their greatest fear is being left alone with no one to hate.

@simonebalakrishna4507 I minored in classics in college. I could point you at ancient Greek and Roman authors complaining about the weak, decadent, and wayward youth of their day and sounding EXACTLY like boomers now. There's even a word for it -- juvenoia. It seems like every generation of humans thinks things were just about perfect when they were young -- which is coincidentally also when their joints didn't hurt, they could eat whatever they wanted, everyone told them they were pretty, and they hadn't yet lived long enough to have much of a basis for comparison for anything. The only people I've met who WEREN'T nostalgic for their childhoods and convinced that their generation had the best stuff were my paternal grandparents ... who both grew up on farms in Ohio during the Great Depression, and who therefore were nostalgic for the post-WW2 period, when things finally were a little less dire for them. Funny how that works out.

I don't think it's even said in this video but this just made me think of how the phrase "forced diversity" is so funny to me. Like what is non forced diversity. Accidental diversity? Was George Lucas planning to make an all male movie but then Carrie fisher walked on set and refused to leave?
Forced Diversity is a thing. It's when studios use diverse casting choices as an artificial way to boost approval rather than for natural story reasons.

Is that mockery and belittlement, to show a character living a happy, fulfilled life? Because if so @ God belittle me, please!
I'm surprised they care so much considering their favorite human trafficking dirtbag thinks Peter Parker is "a pussy." If they knew anything about his actual character beyond "he's a white guy" they'd probably feel the same.
@@akeelyaqub2538 this is why the exact same "bad writing" gets passed over by these types without comment when the characters just happen to align with their biases and identity
The irony of anti woke people not realizing the "woke politics" in guardians 3 is very funny; it proves that artists need to be very explicit and in your face about their messages if they want people to understand them, which in turn creates more obvious woke media for those same people to complain about.
Fun fact:In 2024 people are complaining because Rogue from X-Men is not tighting her booty in every single shot of the new cartoon and that not having the camera fixated to her booty in very single shot of the trailer is woke somehow. (The cartoon hasnt aired yet.)
I'm pretty sure there was also a shot of Rouge's "cake" in X-Men '97 when she was fighting Bastion in the final episode, it can be seen for a brief second too lol. Dunno what these guys were complaining about.
What I especially find funny is that the new show actually sexualixes Rogue way more than the old one did. There are some seriously suggestive scenes with her and Magneto that they wouldn’t have been able to do in the 90s.
As a black guy I’m tired of hearing ignorant folks twisting a word that means be aware of injustices to fit their narrative just because a show or movie have a lgbt character or poc doesn’t hurt you
I blame the growth of social media for that. It has made a lot of words very meaningless, not just ones associated with justice or politics but different words like "literally" or "gaslight" which get so overused to the point of watering down.
@@ccricers Honestly information technology in general is a double edged sword that we simply do not know hot use responsibly just yet. If you think of the internet as a big brain of brains, all the neurons continuously firing isn't 'big smart' . . . it's a seizure. A brain/nervous system actually has mediating feedback loops that both excite and depress neuron firing . . . because unrestrained neuron firing is BAD. But social media has an incentive to keep the thumb firmly on the 'excite' button and never stop. And it's only going to get worse with generative algorithms spewing out automated hottakes and visual noise.
As a black guy maybe you should get over the fact that white people are equal. Woke was mainly popular in use to push black supremacist conspiracy theories on white people. "Get woke" meant to believe white ppl were some evil inferior race. You know it, all black people know it, so own up to it.
"When you've lived most of your life sheltered by privilege, the shift towards equality feels like persecution." -- [original source unknown, paraphrased]
That's the point. They've coopted the word. They've destroyed the power of the word. They are subjugating and attacking the original woke movement. That was the plan and it sadly has worked. The same thing happened with the phrase Social Justice, which was turned into "social justice warriors". People cannot justify being a bigot. So they have to find ways of mocking and harassing people who want to work and fight for equality.
It's hilarious and sad how people like Tyrone literally got his brain melted as he stumble deep into AntiSJW talking point. Some people are seriously trying to say, The Guardians Vol 3 film is great because its the only recent none woke Marvel film, or the only film with get this, AN AGENDA!! Forgetting the fact that the film is basically pro animal rights, drax's whole arc is basically from him being a Fighter to a dad, Mantis literally leaves her family to try and found herself (feminist icon right here), the villain is literally a supremacist and the whole theme of the Guardians is basically centered on found family. It's literally woke as heck and i love it for it. Nebula is literally a cyborg and their main concern is that they can't jackoff to her anymore? Super heroes movies are woke as heck and are very political too. It literally tackles or sort of real world problem from intensive police surveillance, corruption in the government, housing problems, finding your identity, discrimination, even relationship or different family dynamics. If this can include straight dynamic or romance so can gay relationships. I guess the only reason it's not woke for them is that because gay characters didn't exist or the reason it didn't push an Agenda because it didn't focus on female characters that much??? This film is proof that for AntiSJWs, there are only two sexualities, Straight or Political. There are only two genders. Men or Political. That Anti-SJWs are literally just the worse. XD For the record for Tyrone, you don't look like a happy fan. You look like a crazed lunatic that went down the anti-sjw rabbit hole.
I literally made a joke that the big bad was just eugenics in a human form How did the anti-woke crowd miss that? Are their brains seriously that rotted?
Their media literacy skills are just extremely poor and they aren't able to analyze a piece of media beyond its most surface level details. I mean, Rocket outright says to the villain something along the lines of "You didn't want to make things perfect, you just don't like the way things are", which, to me, sounds pretty pro-LGBTQ
Leftists create media, right-wingers complain about it. It's a tale as old as history. Even when "SJWs hate everything" was a meme in the 2000s and 2010s, you didn't see any leftist review bombings or massive outcries, no massive TH-cam communities religiously watching a daily video about what's problematic for the day and congratulating each other in the comment section on how righteous they are for their hate. The closest we ever got were Stering and Moviebob and neither found much success, once they tried to pander to the anger. But you sure as hell see it on the right. They have a thousand MovieBobs and Sterlings, now. And they find much more success, because, surprise: turns out the right is far happier being angry all the time. Shocker, right?
See, when leftists review bomb something or even leave like 5 or 3 annoyed tweets about a thing, it's a "cancellation". Like "The Left is cancelling our beloved actor!!" or whatever. But when rightists do it on a much more large, destructive scale, it's called a "boycott". A boycott is when you send death threats to people you don't like and buy their products just to destroy them on camera to show just how much you don't like them. Know the difference.
It helps me to keep in mind that there was a also time when I was much younger and dumber that I bought into some similar garbage ideas, but as I grew and learned, those times gradually turned into nothing more than cringey memories that pop into my head when I'm trying to fall asleep. Teenagers have always and will always be stupid, and clowns like these wokespotters will always show up to profit off of that stupidity. I think as long as they keep being as obviously ridiculous and embarrassing as the ones shown here, we at least don't have to worry about many of those dumb teens carrying those ideas into adulthood

@maestercraig3990 oh they've been doing it for decades. When Katee Sackhoff got cast as Starbuck in the Battlestar Galactica reboot fans of the original show lost their shit just like so many lose it these days.
funny thing is most of the comments said they rather have Ana De Armas as the replacement, which is very telling. seems they see a black woman as a problem.
The funny thing about people who bang on about things being woke is that they can never really tell you what they mean by woke. I'm not even sure they actually know.
Typically when I encounter folks who say something is "woke," I ask them to instead cite exactly what it is that they don't like. What is the part that makes this "woke?" And then press on from there. "It has a gay person? Do gay people exist in real life? Should the existence of gay people be entirely hidden away? Are gay people allowed to make media? Are gay people allowed to appear in film? If you say they are, then what makes the appearance of THIS gay person 'woke?' If someone's sexuality isn't stated, is it okay to suspect that they may be gay? Why or why not? What about the background actors -- what if every one of them was gay? Also, I should probably ask, what is YOUR stance on gay people in general?"
Doesn't matter what we say you'll always go back farther in time to say we're opposed to any sort of social change. Every leftist view on social issues after the "racism is about power structure, can't be racist against white people" era. That's about where it became crazy and you guys stopped making sense, trying to end racism with more racism. Then it's all downhill from there with all the T stuff.
They know what they think woks is if the movie doesn't have straight white men who gets to sleep with every woman in the film and gets the happy ending then it's woke if it has any black people gay people or strong woman in it then it's woke 😂
You can reduce it to nazis naziing. Straight kiss: good, queer kiss: bad. Black man: reaction depends but ussualy bad, Black woman: bad, blacks winning over whites: bad. White women: bad if independent, good if traditional mysoginist views of white women, white man good if classic alpha male.

Mario went beyond the Peach wearing pants thing. The previews showed Princess Peach getting ready to defend her kingdom, and looking prepared, while it showed Mario's early struggles. All of a sudden, they were claiming "Woke agenda" all over the place, not even stopping for a moment to even think about good story telling. Not even stopping to think rationally about how the plot goes. Comparing someone, who has already lived in the Mushroom Kingdom, and put in a position of power and responsibility, and backed into a wall. But no, this guy who just arrived there (which is shown from the first trailer) should automatically know everything about how the mushroom kingdom works should be better (day one) than every long-lived citizen. (I guess that analogy of convincing someone that they are better by birth than another, they'll give you all their money has some truth). Plus, not to mention it's a Mario Movie, and one with which the audience is to identify with the titular character. I'm sure none of us remember struggling to figure out Super Mario and we could just beat Bowser on World 8-4 day one. That's sarcasm. Of course, they changed their tune on the Mario movie, and practically 180d it. And no, not for any real reason, and Peach still was active and did great things in the film. No, but because they saw it as a movie competing with the Disney film at the time, and they wanted to stick it to Disney. So Mario became the movie they got behind to claim some "sales victory" over Disney. Because someone told them to.

The most anti woke person at my last job absolutely loved the Alien franchise. Of course I had to burst his bubble. "In the Alien movies, men become the damsels in distress. Ah but you missed another key factor if movie bad but strictly adheres to conservative dogma it's a masterpiece attempted to be hidden by the "Woke" elite
@@Peashamthis doesn’t really hold up to observation. Movies often get the “woke” label from conservatives /before release. How can you explain that if the woke label depends solely on audience reception to the movie itself? How can you explain something like the reaction to Barbie? Further, the point is that even if it’s just “bad movies are woke,” conservative analysis of what makes the movie bad in the first place boils down to there being minority actors in prominent roles, or the perception of progressive talking points. Meant to reply to guy above you.
I’ve pretty much seen the pattern they work on. They see something coming out. Look for something they can latch onto and make a bunch of vids saying it’s woke. If it does bad they ride the train on how wokeness ruins everything. If it does well they either A) ignore it to avoid getting trolled. Or B) retroactively act like like it was good and not woke at all to than ride the train that it’s great. It’s all clickbait in the end.

@@arbitarious On a more serious note, there’s a Jesse Gender video that highlights a recurring theme in James Gunn’s movies, men starting out toxic masculine before other characters challenge his viewpoint to unwrap a better person under that persona. Though sort of based on that, Gunn’s Superman will probably be a criticism of Snyder’s Superman.
@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 obviously he did actually make those jokes but they probably never would've been unearthed if he wasn't a vocal critic of Trump
Ive seen comments on wokespotting grifter videos (thnk critical drinker / nerdrotic) which openly admit they won't even watch something if there's a POC on the promo art. Fully embracing the slippery slope from being mildly annoyed at perceived tokenism, to outright racism.
Remember when Captain Marvel blasted the villain mid monolog toward the end of her movie, and it was touted as some brazen display of woke man-hating feminism? Meanwhile all I could think about was it literally just being that one scene from Indiana Jones but with Brie Larson instead of Harrison Ford.
The reason pop culture works from the 70s, 80s & 90s are considered gold standards while everything recent is "woke" is simple - social media didn't exist back then. Sure, there were grifters of different sorts, but there weren't a dozen virtual platforms pulling millions of marks to them. That's what really makes me nostalgic about those decades. Thank you for another insightful, sensible video.
The difference is in the past you had to write letters to make your opinion known. Reading some letters Marvel got after they changed the X-Men in the 70s I wonder what would have happened if they got Social Media back than.
Technically, social media did exist in the 80's & 90's, in the form of Usenet. But it wasn't as widespread, and the text-only format meant that you needed to use convincing arguments (or at least solid knee-jerk rhetoric) rather than flashy memes. Unfortunately, many of the battles are still the same. A frequent disruption on Usenet was the Great Floating Homosexuality Flamewar.
True I think of Cinderella in the 90s, if that movie came out today you know these culture warrior channels would have been calling it woke like they do the The Little Merimaid now, back then in the 90s if somebody had a problem with a character being black I wouldn't have know about it.
I've also noticed that as soon as the "woke" thing turns out to be actually good, it suddenly isn't woke anymore. It happened with "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Dune" as well. I've seen a dude argue, without a hint of irony, that the casting of a black woman as Liet Kynes in "Dune" isn't woke because "she's a mother and the left hates motherhood and the maternal role". Of course, the fact that Liet is a parent isn't even mentioned in the movie. That level of cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics must physically hurt.
Wait. So is "the left" comprised of bitter single mothers and makeup-loving man haters who want everything handed to them on a platter, or do they hate mothers and femininity and want to destroy them? Which one is it? 😂
@@Spacey_keyDune is…interesting. I wanna watch the movies, they’re really good apparently. But I guess some thing could be considered ‘woke’? (Men practicing intense amounts of self-control, powerful women etc etc).
Considering so many 'fans' accuse new Star Wars media of being woke, imagine how they'd react if the original trilogy released today. In A New Hope, Luke and Han try to rescue Leia, she criticises their rescue, takes Luke's blaster, shoots at the Stromtroopers and rescues the men by telling them to flee through the garbage chute? WOKE! At the end of Empire, Lando (a black man) replaces Han (a white man) as pilot of the Millennium Falcon? WOKE! (Then when Jedi came out they'd make videos backtracking once Han came back) In Jedi, Leia fights back and kills the gross man (alien slug thing) who enslaves and objectifies her, then a native people (Ewoks) rise up and overthrow their colonisers, the fascist empire?? WOKE!!
It amazes me that those scammers will start pronouncing a film as "woke" at earlier and earlier stages before any actual info about a film is out. And generally the reasons they base these decisions on are quite telling of what their true intentions and motivations really are. If you get what I'm saying.
that’s what they did with margot robbie’s harley quinn. in their minds, a dress is just as impractical as sequined underwear and the actress is dumb for complaining
on that note, the fact they cared about context when they were called out tells me absolutely everything I need to know about them when they do that style of content.
Anybody else find it incredibly bizarre how Arcane had 2 lesbian main characters and no one complained, but when lightyear has a literal 3 second lesbian kiss everybody bitched and moaned about it as if it had anything to do with the overall plot?
You have no idea how good it is to watch a politically literate TH-cam video. Its very rare because it actually takes effort to analyze stories and not succumb to pathetic grift. I'm just happy channels like yours and Jessie's exist.
Imagine then how it feels to go to the university now where literally everything is a whole pathetic grift about trying to point out how every literary work, every film, every piece of art forever has nothing interesting or good about it and is only racist, sexist, homophobic and otherwise bigoted and has nothing interesting to analyze outside of this. Academia is obsessed with Marxism and intersectionalism. The anti-woke movement is merely a response to this. You may find it annoying, but it's literally just people trying to get the politics out of entertainment after decades of both academia and the dominant cultural ideology in general trying to force politics into every sphere that's supposed to be private - such as those of entertainment. If we can't have it, neither can you.

Not just Ripley, but also Vasquez in the second film as well. The cherry picking these guys do is absolutely unreal. They'll talk about some woke agenda permeating throughout Hollywood when it comes to *gasp* a superhero movie having a female/black lead where a white man isn't at the center of everything, but they won't even address how projects like Batgirl with a black lead got completely canned, while the same exact company did everything in their power to make sure The Flash got released, despite its star actor having numerous legal issues. Or Cyborg's actor getting blacklisted from WB for calling out the racism he endured (and sexism he witnessed) during his time there.
Ah but you see, batgirl got cancelled because WB recognized the WoKeNeSs that they were forcing down their throats. Hiring a black woman to play batgirl was just way too wOkE for general audiences and the decided to cancel before they went broke. (This is legitimately the reasoning i heard from weirdos justifying the Batgirl thing)
The “woke” nonsense is hilariously pathetic particularly because the process is close to using actual critical theory in interpreting media, but stops at the most obvious and superficial interpretation that fits their narrative.

Ok, wokespotting is a fun game. A New Hope is woke: Princess wears pants, refuses to be a damsel in distress, talks back to men, and saves the male heroes. What other beloved movies we can do wokespotting on?
Terminator 2 is woke because it shows a woman being stronger than men and recognizes mental illness and PTSD exist. (Remember when Fox said that recognizing PTSD and Mentla Illness exist is being Woke? They were talking about Barbies.)
Joker is woke because shows corruption, and that rich people don't care about the poor. Recognizes the importance of medical social programs, and that some people have no other way to get treatment. More so, it shows that mental health is important. It also showcases that people with disabilities have lesser job opportunities, and ends with a riot against the rich and powerful.
Here's the kicker: EVERY movie is "woke', because movies are usually about change. The characters, especially in good films, arc into better versions of themselves, and progressive characters work better in film, because people like to root for the underdog who goes against the power structure. The bigots don't understand that they are FOR the power structure. They're literally the villains.
Not a movie, but the Portal games are very woke. The main protagonist is a disabled woman, the main antagonist is a clever female robot. The only two male characters I remember were a robot literally created to be an idiot and voice recordings of a delusional conspiracy theorist. I don’t remember everything because it’s been many years, but we know that the anti-woke grifters wouldn’t care
Grifters playbook. Watch trailer: claim woke, get outrage clicks. Movie bombs: go woke, go broke. Movie does well: the trailer was woke, but the movie isn't. We didn't get enough context. We're always right. Works with video games, too.
As we See right now aswell with Ghost of Yotei First it was a female lead which Made the Game woke in their opinion They found Out the VA has a left winfg opinion now the Game is woke because of that lmao It's so stupid
@Dooood89 the whole culture war is stupid by design. Kinda like a screaming child being dragged into the dentist. The bigger the tantrum, the longer they can delay the inevitable.
It is funny how they call GotG 3 anti-woke when they were the ones who tried to cancel James Gunn when he criticized Trump. Then they tried to cancel Gunn again for rebooting the DCU. Plus Gunn is pretty outspoken about his politics and he's definitely not with the anti-woke crowd. At this point, they just attribute movies that don't do well to it being woke rather than problems with the writing or directing that have nothing to do with "woke." There have been plenty of bad movies or box office bombs that didn't have women or minority leads. Saying that a movie like Eternals didn't do well solely because it was woke makes as much sense as saying that The Mummy, Wrath of the Titans, the Ben Hurr remake, John Carter, etc. did badly because they had male leads.
And speaking of the DC reboot, it's looking to be one of the most "woke" (read: non-conservative) things ever. Hell, Creature Commandos is the first thing in the DCU coming out and it includes a robot whose purpose is to kill Nazis
Movie Theory released a video in the last few months about this, investigating if "go woke go broke" is actually true for movies. The answer, no it's not there's basically zero correlation between "woke elements" and how well the movie does financially. He also pointed out that there's a lot of other mistakes Hollywood and the studios have been making of late that are likely to be much bigger contributing factors to their current woes.
The Peach thing is so stupid. She was a playable character in the second main game of the series and has been playable in basically ever spinoff. Funnily enough, she actually gets treated much better by the developers than Zelda has, even though she's the princess most people would call the more feminist one. Peach gets to do things. Zelda may have more characterization, but the devs won't stop shoving her in the princess box for 99 percent of the game
Yeah, I remember when people were complaining all about Peach at the start of the Mario trailer, and assumed it was just sexist bullshit. But then I saw the same types of people saying it was anti-woke, and I was just like dafuq?!

What's even funnier about the Guardians response was that alongside the 'anti-woke' response. James Gunn got into an argument with someone online calling the film woke because Cosmo was voiced by a woman in the movie instead of a man lol
It is weird how characters being gender swapped from women to men in an adaption is "fine" such as Cosmo. Cosmo is a male in the comics, while their real life counterpart was female. Then we have Laufey in the early Marvel comics and the first Thor movie. Laufey is Loki's Mother, not Father in norse myth. Yet Marvel gender swapped the character and these grifters are not angry at this. Recently played a game that some people were calling woke... The reason? *One* of the characters was a lesbian, which didn't come up until the second half of the game when she left with the person she discovered she loved (a character we see only once if I remember)... All the other characters are straight and cis (as far as we can tell). Just because one love story (one we barely see and can even be against as a choice) wasn't straight some people blew up and marked the game down (encouraging others to do the same to combat "woke")... When I see people typing "WOKE" with vitriol I just can't take them seriously anymore and just imagine basement-dwelling guys who can't get laid and so blame anything and everything (especially those who yell woke when there are important female characters). Seriously, I think some of these people wouldn't be so hateful if they could get laid... But i'm guessing they aren't for a good reason (their personality).
Maybe it's because I'm Russian, but what the hell is wrong with speaking about politics? Politics is our life, changes and cultural clash is our life, but I guess the entitled conservatives always fight for their status quo
It's due to some people being so... enveloped by politics that it's honestly scary how seriously they treat it. Like for some people it's the thing they hold onto the most like they fear their freedom will be taken away. (In their eyes, when in reality it won't) Its a symptom of social media being so unchecked and chaotic that it has damaged society, possibly irreparably, but the scale of it I feel won't be known for years to come, and I'm not an expert so I don't know.
its a really weird thing in american culture. "Politics" is what people call anything they aren't really forced to interact with on a daily basis. Its why that infrastructure bill got passed, roads can't be political to the average person, because they use them. Food stamps are political to people who don't use them. It's an inversion of the old quote "the personal is the political." The american goal, culturally, as someone living here, is often to insulate ones self from society, and therefore society becomes political. It's why people in suburbs tend to be much more quick to call anything they don't like political. I think this happened because of several decades of "politics" just being the thing that happens on cable news
I think you slightly missed one reason Guardians 3 was seen as anti-woke: it was popular and people like it. These people have to not only make their stupid points, but they have to argue most people feel the same way.
I used to be in the Maulerverse a few years ago. The strat that worked on younger me was just attacking movies for being woke that were already kinda bad, and since I had trouble explaining why I didn't like them it made me more receptive to their bullshit. Captain Marvel, for example, had some issues with how she was characterized in the movie not really lining up with the conflict seemingly only present in the climax, leading to a lot of kinda pointless action. Ofc, young me didnt know that, monkey brain just went "me no like" and let internet people fill in the gaps.
If you felt comfortable I would love for you to elaborate, what is it about younger people that makes them so willing to buy in? This is no judgement it's the "hate" component that throws me for a loop, why is it always anything different than straight, white, and male?
@@darthonyx2382 I feel like if you're young, you'd be somewhat naive enough to gobble up anything as long as it made enough sense, I feel like this is why we would sometimes listen to these people since we didn't really know any better, and I think this is why I actually did watch these kinds of people often before (now I can't fathom that happened at all).
@@darthonyx2382 I know this is a few months old, but I think, coming at it from sam's angle the issue stems from vocabulary and experience. If you're young you might come out of a movie, like Cap Marvel, going 'well, that was good, but there was something I didn't enjoy about the main character but I don't know what'. Maybe it pops up on your feed, maybe you search it out, but you find a video explaining what's 'wrong' with her. Aha! You now have the words to explain your feelings, and all these people agree with you as well. Now the next time you see a movie you got back to that person's channel or someone like them to see what they thought, and if they disliked it in the same way you did. And soon it becomes the framework for how you critique a movie, and now you have no incentive to learn things about screenplaya or writing or executive meddling because your framework for what makes a movie bad is entirely divorced from those things. And, neurologically speaking, it's very rewarding to get excited and worked up about things! It's addicting, so it's very easy to start going into movies looking to get mad instead of trying them with an open mind. And then you can mock the out-group with your friends in the in-group, which reinforces social bonds and also feels good. Win win win!!!!!
Aliens is truly the most perfect example of "woke means literally nothing." A woman, the only one strong enough to lift a giant machine gun, belittles a man who is immediately torn apsrt while pissing himself in the next scene. The finale has the Stunning and Brave female protagonist kill the big bad who is also a supremely strong female character while the only White Male watches helplessly from the floor covered in his own white fluid. IF THIS IS NOT WOKE. NOTHING, NOTHING CAN BE WOKE.
The criticism that the Mario movie was woke because Peach was wearing pants or was taking a more action-centered role frustrated me because it was clearly coming from people who haven't played a Mario game in a very long time. But they were still talking like not making her a damsel in distress was somehow rewriting her character or something. Peach taking a more active role in the action has been something Nintendo's been doing for a long while now. Hell, in Mario x Rabbids Peach had a laser shotgun (and was one of my favorite units in that game).
Not to mention, it seems like even in recent games where she is kidnapped, there is a little twist to shake things up. For instance, in Mario Odyssey, her feeling overwhelmed after her rescue (after a stressful kidnapping, obviously) and being bombarded with Mario and Bowser proposing to her made her insist that enough is enough. In the endgame, she's allowed to wander freely.
That being said, I do have my issues with how they handled Peach. Or rather, making her Mario's main companion and rendering Luigi as the one in distress. I also felt that she could have had some moments of vulnerability instead of being perfect at almost everything (Mario and the others had moments of weakness). HOWEVER, I still detest Shad and numerous others making a huge fuss and making it to be far more nefarious. God, I hate humanity sometimes...

I don't necessarily like the terms 'woke' because of its overuse, but people can still be annoyed at things like millennial writing, tumblr humor, 'punching up', inoffensive diversity and inclusion, 'girlboss' archetypes. I know not to go down the rabbitholes like critical drinker, but I still think a lot of media now has become shallow with oversaturated political correctness
Even with regard to the games industry, a lot of games are being 'updated' for modern audiences. One example is the Lara Croft collection removing a polynesian character considered offensive, who asked for this? Why are people now so eager to walk on eggshells so not to appear offensive? even when its not
And old disney movies get disclaimers now too, but ONLY for racial caricatures.

It's concluding in a logical fashion. Once you redefine woke as anything you personally don't like, then woke just becomes a yes no opinion.
Basically Street Fighter 6 over the past month.
Take too much work for Drinker while he can act like an idiot on youtube and get free money.
You are blatantly ignorant, wokeness is rewarding perceived victims or marginalized groups and give them resources , resource takes many forms from money, clout, handouts, in this context the free resource is representation a resource given to them because they DESERVE IT because they are victim and marganized aka WOKE

@@danagarland1450 This seems a little mean-spirited, unless I'm misinterpreting something.
All they care about is the fact that the black guy and the woman are doing most of the physical fighting instead of the straight white man and that mere fact alone is enough for them to argue that Peter's character is "ruined".
yeah he has a fucking solid arch. and peter has ALWAYS been down on his luck, he’s genuinely depressed most of the time. it’s true to his character.
they don’t actually want the movies they say they want. what would that be? a cardboard cutout that says “you should like me?”
nobody likes conservative art it’s usually really bad.
Pretty sure the people who hate his arc are the same people who want him to stay miserable.
Women wearing pants is woke??
Holy shit, that's 19th century tier.
Shad is a guy who roleplays that he's in the middle ages. To him, the 19th century is too progressive.

As an African American aspiring screenwriter the word “woke” gets more infuriating by the day.
Don't know how it went from pointing out social injustices to pointing out anything progressive regardless of judging it based on how good it is.
I'm just glad there are more TH-camrs finally starting to call out the eternal grift.
here's how to identify woke in your media:
step 1, ask the following questions:
can the media, in any way, be possibly interpreted as presenting anything other that the ideals of the 1850s?
does the media, in any way, represent any minority in any way beyond them existing neutrally?
does the movie give any sort of message that would say that it's in any way okay to be a part of a minority?
If you were to hand the media to a Klansman, Nazi, or Confederate would any of them dislike it?
did the media, despite not being attributed to any of the previous, fail after launch?
step 2:
if you answered yest to any of them, you should throw out the entire thing.
@@lazerpie101 Well if the movie is actually progressive and not liberal progressive usually the con's are too stupid and have such little media analysis that you can confuse them into thinking it is making fun of "both sides" a good example of this is "The Boys."
Another good example of this is "fight club" famously written by a gay man.
Love how Critical Drinker be mad that Peter B. Parker can enjoy being a dorky father.
“The modern audience is brainwashed to root for an emasculated Peter taking care of his kid when it should be his wife’s job!”
At very least he was consisted that he called out Peter of getting kid with him and not just Spider-woman, which is rare.
These dimwits think "contrast" is just a button on their monitors.
Does he really think that being a good dad and spending time with your child is emasculating? God forbid he has any children.
I love how all of you conveniently focus on this instead f the fact that Drinker actually praised both Spiderverse movies, because that doesn't fit your narrative, since by your strawman version of his view of politics in film, he would by necessity have to hate them for being woke.

(Never mind that I went to church with hundreds of Frollos and knew them inside and out already.)
For some reason, the summary of the phenomenon that I keep returning to is an episode of Gargoyles. The last we hear of him, he's screaming at the heroes' retreating backs: "Don't leave me here with no one to hate!"
As a kid, I thought the line was corny, but it stuck with me. I hear it echo in my ears every time I see what you call "wokespotters" desperately trying to find new targets for their viewers' rage. They really are that unsubtle. Their greatest fear is being left alone with no one to hate.

Or how about XMen? Nothing woke there, just blatant metaphors for racism, being gay, and a Holocaust survivor becoming super-Hitler.
Probably the worst thing about the wokespotters is that there's a younger generation coming up that thinks that is what media analysis/criticism is.

The reason pop culture works from the 70s, 80s & 90s are considered gold standards while everything recent is "woke" is simple - social media didn't exist back then. Sure, there were grifters of different sorts, but there weren't a dozen virtual platforms pulling millions of marks to them. That's what really makes me nostalgic about those decades. Thank you for another insightful, sensible video.
The difference is in the past you had to write letters to make your opinion known.
Reading some letters Marvel got after they changed the X-Men in the 70s I wonder what would have happened if they got Social Media back than.
Thank you! People never seem to bring that up when discussing wokeness or how “things were so much better back then”.
There’s also a bit of survivorship bias involved. We always talk about the successes from the past, but not the failures.

Perhaps you are a moviebob fan?
Ah but you see, batgirl got cancelled because WB recognized the WoKeNeSs that they were forcing down their throats. Hiring a black woman to play batgirl was just way too wOkE for general audiences and the decided to cancel before they went broke. (This is legitimately the reasoning i heard from weirdos justifying the Batgirl thing)

The “woke” nonsense is hilariously pathetic particularly because the process is close to using actual critical theory in interpreting media, but stops at the most obvious and superficial interpretation that fits their narrative.
Yeah, the Last Jedi was the moment I left them because I realised that their media literacy is worse than some Eastern European kid and they really talk more about actor existing more than actual critique of story itself.
Ok, wokespotting is a fun game.
A New Hope is woke: Princess wears pants, refuses to be a damsel in distress, talks back to men, and saves the male heroes.
What other beloved movies we can do wokespotting on?
Freddy Got Fingered could be an interesting one to do wokespotting for.

Having a female lead doesn't make movie woke.
The Peach thing is so stupid. She was a playable character in the second main game of the series and has been playable in basically ever spinoff. Funnily enough, she actually gets treated much better by the developers than Zelda has, even though she's the princess most people would call the more feminist one. Peach gets to do things. What's even funnier about the Guardians response was that alongside the 'anti-woke' response. James Gunn got into an argument with someone online calling the film woke because Cosmo was voiced by a woman in the movie instead of a man lol
They clearly did not understand the historical reference
It is weird how characters being gender swapped from women to men in an adaption is "fine" such as Cosmo. Cosmo is a male in the comics, while their real life counterpart was female.
Are you still living there?
sry if it's an inappropriate question.
@@steamboatwill3.367 I am, it's an interesting experience
You answered your own question, conservatives benefit from the status quo while the people they hate suffer for it.
And yet Barbie came out and it was popular and everyone was calling it woke
Sucks for them because it became the highest grossing movie of 2023
I used to be in the Maulerverse a few years ago.
Captain Marvel really should have much better, but man was it just mid. It made WW2017 look like a masterpiece (and even that film isn't perfect).
@@darthonyx2382It is not always anything different than man, white and straight. You got the wrong ideas.
Aliens is truly the most perfect example of "woke means literally nothing."
A woman, the only one strong enough to lift a giant machine gun, belittles a man who is immediately torn apsrt while pissing himself in the next scene.
Plus, imagine being upset about women wearing pants _at all?!_ 😂
Peach has been in the Main character or at the very least Supporting character seat for nearly 15 years at this point!
