This tutorial saved our lives literally, my hvac unit is now working after 3 technicians each 1 had the wrong diagnosis 1 said the motor bad Not! 1 said the 3 way valve is leaking Not! The other said bad thermostat Conjunction issue. Delay relay Bad, motor relay bad transformer bad and defrost board!
I’m about to try this tonight for a customer that got a bad board on a new unit 🤦🏻 3-5 days for the board to get in then I have to go pick it up and install it
Thank you for this video. I followed the steps and it worked perfectly. Just two issues I'd like to highlight to help others: 1. Please refer to the wiring schematic for specific colors of the reversing valve. Mine were black. 2. Also I blew the fuse at the a/c handler in this process so my thermostat wasn't working. One I found that and replaced it everything worked well.
Good video but when you connected the common lead for the thermostat you connected it to the black lead on the board and not to the thermostat wire I think it was the grey wire
thanks for this great Video I was struggling with one heat pump I was getting 24v but the board was not working well, after watching this video I end up bypassing it and it worked 😂
Great videos. Can an ohms OL on a Solenoid cause the 3amp fuse in the AH to keep failing? Can’t get Low Voltage on Contactor, changed contractor, same issue.
Okay, in the beginning you moved the black (C) wire out the way, @ 1:43 to 1:53, and tried to put the red wire from the contactor to the light blue (C) wire from the thermostat. Then later you put the black (C) wire from the board with just the red and orange (C) wire and the light blue (C) wire was not connected. Now which wires need to be connected in that stage? All light blue, black, red and orange which equals four wire or does just three need to go together, black or light blue with red and orange?
Hi how are you can you make a video .showing how to bypass the condensor fan relay on board for defrost and add and external relay to allow cooling and heat I've replaced this carrier board 3 times in a year and a half .just put a new board and new condensor fan motor just in case old fan motor was pulling to high of laps causing the relay to fail . However the board failed a week later anyway I've had the whole system checked over and voltage tested they found no issues but the board keeps failing the last unit I had the man installed a external relay for the fan which worked perfect until I had to get a new unit due to outdated freon thanks and I hope you can help
Bryan the way you ecplained it is for.experienced technicians, it seemed a bit confusing, the easiest way would be to just unplug the two orange reversing valves wires from the defrost board and simply connect them on the each side of the contactor so the valve can get its 24 volt. The valve will always be energized when ever there is call for cool. Great vedeo though!!
Ya I think this guy want's to show off his electrical engineering degree , but any tech can do that task in way less moves than his dumb ass video , Oh ya , why are we bypassing the control anyway ?
Christopher Paul what if condenser fan motor relay stuck open? U energized reversing valve but cond fan motor won't run. I would never bypass defrost bord(SW Florda) unless it's late call and I'm unable to get replacement part (most cases -next day in the morning it is installed).
Thank you for your time. Question: my AC/Heat Pump is freezing up around the indoor unit coil. No AC at all. Thermostat and inside fan are working, filter and A-frame are clean, drain plug is NOT clogged. Outside fan and compressor are working too. I haven't measure capacitance, but assume dual capacitor is good since compressor and fan both run. I haven't check for low refrigerant yet (R-410A). What could possibly be the problem? Would the defrost control board have anything to do here (it's spring time and only inside is freezing). Thank you much in advance!
@SuperCool Slide Rule" can you make a video on how to make yourself a light wieght, small home built window defogger wire setup. I have a velomobile I need to make a defogging wire setup, but can't figure out how to do it, and where to get the wire.
you right Aaron he messed up.. the red wire from the contactor is suppose to connect to the common on the thermostat wire coming from the air handler and that completes your 24v coming from the transformer the other yellow wire which is your call for cooling he has correct
I enjoyed your video thank you for the education, I do have a question. I have a temp star unit and I replaced the contractor, defrost board and fan board along with a new honey well digital thermostat. All looks well, the ac blows cold air but I did notice that the condenser fan is always running/spinning even when the blower inside is not blowing anything. Also the air power of the air coming out of the vents inside is not as strong and the other units. Can you please help
William Belliard You may want to ensure that the wires feeding the condenser fan are connected to the load side of the contactor instead of the line side (they should be on the side opposite the incoming high voltage wires). Hope this helped.
Bryan Knowlton Thank Bryan. Is the load side L1 or L2 correct? I mean have you heard of this? Could the fan motor be bad as well? Or if it spins that means its good. By making these changes will it increase the speed of the fan outside thus increasing the air blowing inside?
Sounds like you wired the low voltage incorrectly and by that I mean maybe at the furnace you installed the y wire on the r terminal instead of it being on y and therefore your your condenser is always running. Or you wired your fan high voltage going too the line side of your contactor that you replaced something is mis wired need more input.
If you have comments that are helpful or suggestions on how to improve a video please post it but if you don't have anything valuable to add then please keep it to your self.
Carskinify You don't "bypass the defrost cycle" as you put it. You bypass the defrost board. The board can burn out (a relay on the board) and not pass power (24v) to energize the main contactor and not allow the system to run or cool at all. I'm still new at hacks so I just get the replacement board and install it. People go hot for a few days, thats life.
Something wasn't right, I wired it exactly after spending an hour repeating the steps, plugs mine in and 60 seconds later, a loud pop!!! Maybe redo this video and rethink the wiring and be a little more in detail, thanks
Excellent reply , I love it , people like him don't realize that people shouldn't be attempting modification like that , leave it to qualified service company , I would sue the shit out of him , he is an accomplice to disaster.
You just cut half the words in the unit when all you had to do was run the "Y" wire directly to the contactor. Land the fan wire on the L1 terminal of contactor. Then you could have placed a common wire on the opposite side of the contactor and boom when the contactor pulls in you have air conditioning now you have to unspice all those wires and fix it all back ridiculous amateur status.

Good video. It clarifies the functions of the defrost board and the fact that it is just needed really for heating and some safety interlocks
Great tutorial my Board went out. It's on backorder and it's been 102° here. This worked great and the temp is dropping as I type. Thank you!!

Yeah i saw that too, good catch.

Aaron Green Just the light blue, orange, and red. Forget the black coming from molex plug (board).

Thank's Good Video. Ive worn out a couple of supercool slide rule already. a lot of information on that card. I use it all the time.
Why get a common from the board if your bypassing the other wires? Shouldn't you get common from the tstat wires?
Yes you should.I was thinking the same thing
Good job !!!!! thank you for sharing !!!!!
thanks very good to know this ,,,,,,,even for an old retired tech LOL ,,,,

simplicity at its finest, thanks smart brother!!

What did you do to fix it, I have similar problem?
@@bhaskarper909 low refrigererant

Will this setup allow the heat to work fine in the winter without the defrost?
yes, just leave the reversing valve wires disconnected, and it will run in heat
you right Aaron he messed up.. the red wire from the contactor is suppose to connect to the common on the thermostat wire coming from the air handler and that completes your 24v coming from the transformer the other yellow wire which is your call for cooling he has correct
Shouldn't you connect to the valve end of the orange wires not the board end? I tried this and burned up my transformer not sure what I did wrong.
That's what I'm thinking.. because how would it power the valve. why wire the board if you're bypassing board

Oh ya , if you can speed up the out door fan , it will surely blow like hell inside , dude stay away from this trade , your scaring me .

Thanks for the video. Can you do this with rudd and rheem?
Yes you can.
If you have comments that are helpful or suggestions on how to improve a video please post it but if you don't have anything valuable to add then please keep it to your self.
Do the red and blue wires that you jumped get plugged back into the relay? Thanks.
Thank you so much for your help
Great video!
Could I just jump yellow and orange and leave common alone? Shouldn't common still be present no matter what?
Basically just take the low voltage cooling wire out of the board and connect it at the contractor. 🆒
What if you don't have a RV and your indoor fan is wired with the unit....Package/A/C and GAS??
Thank you so much
So, I wanted to bypass the defrost board for heating, then just leave the reversing as is.
Great information! Thanks.
Andrew Laurice
How can you bypass the control board and still retain the ability to use the heat strips ?
please do one on how to read the control board.
Can you bypass the board for heating and cooling?
Yes but different way
How to wire up a hot water coil to an air handler using two relays and an aquastat
The defrost cycle doesn't work during the summer so if you just use the summer ac,why would you need to bypass the defrost cycle?
Carskinify You don't "bypass the defrost cycle" as you put it. You bypass the defrost board. Foghorn Leghorn your comment serves no purpose except to insult. Why bother if you can't be constructive or helpful.
You should make another video with a more simplistic explanation of a simplistic solution and correct your mistake while you're at it.
Thank you
Good video !
THANK U SO MUCH
Something wasn't right, I wired it exactly after spending an hour repeating the steps, plugs mine in and 60 seconds later, a loud pop!!! Maybe redo this video and rethink the wiring and be a little more in detail, thanks
Why would a defrost board fail?
because it's a man-made item.
Nice tks
thanks for you help I'll buy you slide rule I'll buy my defrost board in October
I tried this and it burned my house down. So my laywer is wanting your General Liability policy number

what about the reversing valve wire
just move the input wire down to the extra connection next to the yellow control wire on contactor
Not good for beginners. "Don't do this at home.
Good video ... but very bad explanation
Great video!
