      @@StephenJReid Thats right. The highest is slieve foy at 590m so not a patch on Donard but still gives a good workout with super views across the lough to the mournes. Carlingford is a lovely town as well.

    Thoroughly enjoyable hike in and camp in. The fire starting was a matter of feeling your way - you got it though making for a far cosier time - for your feet. Ha ha! I look forward to seeing if you get a fish. New to your channel and have subscribed on account of the great vibe here. All the best. Mark

    You should put your electronic equipment and the powerbank recharger inside your sleeping bag while recharging to keep them warm. Recharging in cold temperatures damages the batteries. Check regularly while they are in the sleeping bag for overheating. A room temperature of approximately 20c is usually recommended.

      Good to know! Never thought of that. Wouldn’t want it to come into contact with my hand warmers. 💥

    Awesome vid again man. You do vids super good. I loved the face plant. Also when you guys set up camp and it was so green is that normal around those parts? Snow doesn’t enter wooded areas? Life straws are awesome . Socky nooooooooo

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it’s usually green here in lower areas all year round. We rarely get temperatures below -2C so snow tends to melt quickly. The tree cover meant the snow landed on the trees, melted and then dripped down as water.

    • @AdventuresThings
      @AdventuresThings 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stephen J Reid that makes sense. Round these parts we get snow everywhere. But that’ll happen when -20

    What's your opinion on trekking poles? Do u really need them?

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weesham07 They definitely help, especially over long distances. I don’t use very often though or only use one as tricky to operate cameras and use them at the same time. They are not a necessity though.

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strictly it's not 100% legal, but generally tolerated if you respect the land and are smart about location. eg, don't pitch up in the middle of a farmers field or leave any rubbish.

      @@StephenJReid Seriously though, (I know it's a camping vid and all that), but in reality, would it not be better having the flint solely for a backup scenario, rather than spend a half hour in the freezing cold and rain trying to get the thing going?
      It would be a breath of fresh air for someone to say in a camping video "you know what, we do have some flint, but we're just going to use a zippo instead, because it's quicker?

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh there were multiple fire lighting options on hand but I had wanted to see Rob demo the traditional method. It’s not something I can do myself. However with a modern fire steel you can get a fire going as fast as using matches or a lighter.
