i think they overdid it with the twists and turns whch actually was eating away from the tension more than it should have been intended. the real estate agent moving in and stuff like that was just way over the top. especially if the story is based on true events you should never fall into the trap of making it feel unrealistic. also the side characters are very cliche... that being said the acting was fantastic. great cast

I found it boring.I also thought the character that Jennifer Coolidge played was comical and felt out of place for some reason.I would never recommend this to anyone.

I saw a news report last week that said since the Netflix series came out, fans of the show have been driving to the house to get a look at it and the neighbors complained to police about the sudden surge of traffic in their block so police cordoned off the house with crime scene tape and having cops periodically stop by to shoo people away. Kind of funny how the house has tons of “Watchers” now. 😂

The John Graff character is based on John List who, on Nov. 9, 1971, killed his entire family in identical fashion within their Westfield abode. List similarly lost his job, and gradually bled out his mother's $200,000 savings before killing her and his wife in the house. He also ambushed two of his children when they returned home from school, and it's rumored that he made himself lunch between the killings, after which he reportedly traveled to his oldest son's soccer game and shot him approximately 10 times later that night.

As far as the nearby resident relating to video games, he didn’t have a screen name of The Watcher, but a detective or officer who questioned him, recalled “to his memory” that he played a game called The Watcher. However this sounds like it could have been “The Witcher” video game, and the officers memory could have misconstrued this.

If I recall correctly, that suspect was brought up by his girlfriend (or at the time his ex?). One night she parked her car near the house for several hours, that brought the attention of the private investigator that was watching the house from a van. She was interrogated and she said she was actually watching his boyfriend, who lived in the area, and during the interrogatory she mentioned the guy was playing a game or using the nickname "the watcher" for gaming.

I think the Watcher as told on Netflix is a perfect allegory for what is going on today. One group desperately wishing to hold on to a romanticised past (the preservation society) against anyone who wants change or modernisation (those who move into the house). Huge distrust and dislike on either side, manifesting in utter paranoia. The point is that this made everyone in the show watchers at one point or another.

Has everyone ruled out maybe he or she was never watching from the outside but using something to watch on the inside, the real family installed cameras on the outside, hired a PI but maybe they shouldn’t be looking for someone but something. My guess is there could be hidden cameras/mics scattered throughout the house, giving the stalker the chance to watch from somewhere else.. you can’t catch someone if they are watching from a distance. And let’s be honest this was 2014 wasn’t that long ago, it wouldn’t be far fetched if the person live completely in a different area or state, broke in the house at one point put hidden cameras in, and just sat at home like a creep watching them, and it wouldn’t have been difficult to just go to the post office to mail a letter

I hope the Writers are at it , because I cant wait .. the Tunnels alone you could make several episodes about.. and we never even found out who was sleeping in that room ??? this is an amazing story ,and will leave you on the edge of your Seat .. it starts out kind of stupid, but it builds Nicely, and takes a couple of Nice Twists and Turns . the Investigator was awesome ..and then the plot twist there .. its not even that important WHO the Watcher is .. its the Story behind if which is so Fascinating .. The watcher/watchers were the home preservation society. It says the watcher was never caught but that is "officially" and for the characters of the show, us as viewers have the inside information that it was obviously the neighbours little club. Not to mention we literally are shown the man in the tunnels in the robe was John/ Bill. I dont know how anyone missed that.
Also id say that john wasnt made up by the private investigator, who did nothing but lie the whole time, as in the final episode we see that the teacher recognised John and John then insists he is from the library. The teacher then asks John how is family are and John just gives him an evil look.
All in all the story would have been shit if it copied the real story which was basically nothing happened.
The preservation society cause any homeowners that renovate in a way they dont agree with to lose their minds and move out, only to then become obsessed with the home themselves.

Great video. I thought I would share something with you and the rest of the viewers and get some other opinions. You are probably familiar with the case of family Annihilator John list. He killed his entire family in 1971 in Westfield New Jersey and disappeared. In 1989 an updated age sculpture was shown on America's Most Wanted and he was captured. He had been living for years as Robert Clark and nobody had a clue about his past. The reason I bring this up is because I've been seeing stuff all over the internet saying that the John graft character is based upon John list. Yes.. the town is the same.. the murdered the family thing is the same. However in The Watcher John graft is still out and on the loose. John list passed away in 2008 in a hospital not far from my house. So my opinion is.. yeah there are similarities to John list and John graft.. however there are so many other differences.. can we really say the character was based upon John list? Maybe we should be saying John list inspired the character. Yes the crime happened in Westfield New Jersey.. but other than that and the fact of the killing of the family.. I don't see other similarities. Honestly.. if you think about it.. can we even say without a doubt that John graft killed his family? Yes they allude to it several times.. but then Theodora claim to have made him up.. yet he's still supposedly attends the meeting at the end of The Watcher. What is everyone's thoughts on the character?

Anyway John Graff is a creep, he's the person in the tunnel, and having killed his whole family means he's capable of killing the ferret and the doggy. I think Pearl is The Watcher and drove John to madness, and keeps him around b/c she feels bad

    • @soonsims
      @soonsims 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think John killed his family because it turned out Theodora made this whole reveal up - so everything they unearthed before that is still true. It's also implied that the teacher recognized him when he asked ' How's you family Bill ', and they were interrupted. I think that definitely happened and somehow they formed an alliance with Pearl. Maybe the two of them were the Watcher. Perhaps he was the guy who showed up in the house when Karen moved in and killed her dog too. He's definitely a cuckoo a maybe his motive for these letters is to preserve the house/town how it was. And Pearl is so obsessed with the same too. But what I can't pinpoint is the blood cult and what Andrew's child saw. Because we know this likely happened. Unless Andrew really went crazy after the passing of his wife and the cult thing isn't a thing. Then there won't be loose ends. But I don't think so...so the track suit lady is also evil...? Wish we had more answers 😁

Was there really tunnels in the house? Did people get into the house through the tunnels. And was there a guy in the 90s who lived there and killed his family? And do we know anything about the current residents? And if they are getting letters?

I started watching this show and enjoyed it for several episodes. To me, a lot of it is not cohesive. Loan officer giving out personal info., side things like that. I decided when I saw 7 seasons total, this story line could not support it. I think it would have made a better movie. Appreciate your take.

they made it seem like Westfield is like Beverly Hills - ie. full of the idle rich. It's not. Economically, it's got a fairly decent spread

I actually hated the ending you know - just not getting an answer. Like the show made it seem like there was going to be a massive plot at the end. And then there wasn’t. Is that just me? 😂

I think the watcher is Karen. She said to that elderly couple across the street that she'll buy there home and something about an LLC, which was said that an LLC bought the branocks house. So I think they keep re-flipping the same house to make tons of money and repeat the process

With the amount of artistic liberty and lack of sticking to the true story they should have wrapped up the show in some way.

According to the show, the police did everything to help the family, including sending the letter for DNA analysis, and all they got in return was constant abuse and attack by the family. Who does that, seriously? If anything, you'd surely want to keep the police sweet and on your side!

And no one thought to install a camera in a tree facing the mailbox with another camera (with 360° view) on the roof facing the tree and the mailbox?
or to install a high fence with spikes, with a hedge?
That way no one would have seen the house.
With mirror stickers on the windows like that the interior of a house can no longer be seen at all?

I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but I might have given that secret cave in the basement another peak othe than the initial discovery. I might have even just walked in there and seen where it came out. Probably a crazy idea
