They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What may seem an eyesore to one person, just might be a beautiful masterpiece to another. There are places beloved by communities and protected in the hearts of those that hold their memories of its tattered hallways and decayed rooms dear. This is the way that we feel when we explore places that have been forgotten by time. Left to rot and decay and only holding the silent whispers of what once was. We know that there are people out there with malicious intent toward these places that we venture into. It saddens us when we see the filth and destruction they leave behind, but we want to make something very clear… We are explorers and lovers of history. We in no way, shape or form condone the criminal activities that take place in the historical decaying places that we document. Social media has brought many of these places to the limelight, but the intention is to show the beauty and mystery of abandonment. Not to invite trouble. Trouble will find its way on its own and to say that the peaceful documentation of these places leads to criminal activity, is mind blowing. We have met so many amazing fellow explorers in our travels and are so thankful and humbled by the positive responses we have received. We know that this type of exploration is not for everyone…many people don’t understand why we find such beauty in decay, we can only explain it as a beautiful journey into the past. We invite you to watch our explores and come along as we visit these amazing places. As for the criminal activity that occurs, those individuals are responsible for their own actions. It is a terrible part of our society, but reality, nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for loving this location just as much as we do. We hope that through this video, the memories held within will remain.

The stage was locked in to Academy Aperture, 4.3. That was the demise of this once awesome movie palace. Many movie palaces over the decades have met the same fate. UNFORTUNATELY/Cinerama 2.7.6/1 and even CinemaScope 2.55/1 or even 2.35/1 were to wide to accommodate these modern screen sizes so the doom of these once GORGEOUS theaters were set. WHAT A SHAME. Question: Why wasn’t this theater saved before it was destroyed by the elements and than the distrustful so called human element. Sure one day it will just crumble to dust now…… Thanks for sharing this TREASURE. New to your channel. Now hooked.
Thank you very much! We appreciate your kind words and your great comment! It's such a shame to see this beauty just falling apart. The architecture is simply amazing! :)
Good job guys. I went in this theater a couple of times, once in the 60s when I was a little kid and once in the 70s after it had been closed for a while. My mom and I heard it was going to be open to the public and we went right away. It was still pristine and gorgeous, just took your breath away. Everything was glittering and golden. Such a shame to see it now but still a grand old building.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. For me (Jen) personally, this will always be one of my favorite places that we have ever been to. I was awestruck by the beauty of the architecture and wished that I could have seen it in all of its grandeur. I grew up just south of St. Louis and had heard about it, but never had the chance. To see it in this condition is sad, but we hope that we were able to breathe just a little life back into it, if even for just a moment. ❤️❤️
Isn’t she so captivating!!! I have admired this building for years from afar and am so happy to have had the chance to see it up close! Thank you so much for watching and for such a great comment!
Ar--20:12-- Look up to the left side, it's probably a trick of the eye but doesn't it look like a person standing there? It's up on the balcony where you see the light shinning through. At--14:23-- Maybe the holes were for the air conditioning. Those theaters had air conditioning back in the day which at the time was a big thing. Maybe the held speakers. At--8:02-- Yup! There would have been a beautiful glass/Crystal lighting fixture there. If you look at the Majestic theater in Texas they show it. And on the ceiling they got the Nation Geographic folks to put STARS on the ceiling they way it actually appears in the sky ! A beautiful blue ceiling.
We thought about that after! Since it was the first of its kind to offer air conditioning, perhaps that is where the vents were? It does look like a person...crazy!! We definitely felt like we weren't alone. We loved having you come along with us on this one, thank you!!
@@JMExplorations I'm not crazy? It looked like a person to me, and faint footsteps at times. Can I bet a 'gho👻st in your back seat like a little kid going;"Can we go on another adventure now?!!" 😃😂 Are we there yet? (I refuse to 'grow up) 👻💖
There is enough left of the interior that it’s original esthetic could be maintained while still incorporating unique, modern decorative treatment and repurposing. Structurally, however, does anyone know how it stands? Why is a building on the NRHP in such a condition?? I thought that status would preclude this from happening…
We agree with everything you said and we also wondered why a building on the NRHP would be left in this condition! The architecture was simply amazing and bringing it back to life would be awesome!

Where you thought the rich person seats were just above to the left and right of the stage is actually the chambers where the pipes for a Wurlitzer theatre organ used to be. Thankfully decades ago, that organ was taken out, restored, and is now installed in the lobby of the St. Louis Fox Theatre.
Thank you so much for this comment. We were captivated by this theatre and only wish we could have seen it back when it was open. Sometimes we make guesses about the things that we see that are completely wrong. We appreciate your input!

@@JMExplorations Hi Jan and Marcel! I went to bed at 6 am and woke up at 10;55 just in time. For all the good it might do I'm going to try and write to the Majestic Theater in Texas and see if they would have any clue on if the building could be saved. It may be too far gone but it's worth a try. Well if ya give it a good 'go' who knows what might happen. I'm just glad you got in and out safety. You both do such a great job and make a beautiful couple.💖 It's a beautiful day in Maryland. Such a shame that soon it will be cold and deary. I hope this is the last year to be in an apt run by not so nice head manager that won't fix a thing in my apt. Good news is that in the spring hopefully I'll have the $ to take her to court😂😁🤗🤗🤗 She has no clue of the pictures I have, she'll see them in a court room. I learned in the Army to study your enemy, plan well and zap big time when they least expect it. She hates me because I stand up to her. Standing up meaning simply asking for a recite when I pay the rent ! and she won't do that. I haven't had a working light in the kitchen in two months! We can't have hot water to wash clothes but the manager has 4 Caddys. (4--now) Not trying to brag but I think she done messed with de wrong white chick. Playing dumb and being dumb are two different things, ya know man. Ha, ha, ha!! I don't know why she hates me so, just for asking to get my apt fixed, and for a recite at the end of the month? Nothing's been fixed in 7 years!! Then IF one finds a way to move out the slum Hud manager likes to hit the tennents with the repairs!!! and by taking all their deposit $. I'll start not too long from now by trying to get a legal aid lawyer & see if my rent can be put in escrow till ALL the repairs are made and see how that works. One can only try. I put all this here because if someone see's this and they too have a Hud head manager from hell maybe they can take heart and get the courage to FIGHT BACK in right ways. It can be done with alot of work and ALOT of praying.
Thank you for doing this video! Fred Leber who, with Harry Redmon, built this theater, was my grandfather. I never met him, he died long before I was born. But the legacy of the Majestic Theater was part of the lore and legend of our family. My mother would have been 11 when it opened in 1928. Imagine her happiness at that. I saw Clayton Moore, the "Lone Ranger," in person there when I was about 10. When the contract with the distributor ran out, around 1960, we "let it go for taxes," but I will share your video with my children so they know a bit more about their family history.
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment! This is exactly why we do what we do. It is a chance to preserve history and bring forth treasured memories from the people who know these places the best. This particular building has captivated me (Jen) for years. I had admired it from afar for so long not really knowing just how spectacular the architecture was up close. When I finally had my first look up close, it took my breath away. I can tell you that we both feel drawn to this building and recently visited it again when we were back in the area. It still looks just as beautiful
I’ve lived in the St. Louis metro area most of my life and have driven by this beauty for over 30 years. So happy to see a video celebrating its beauty and majestic past. Thanks for the awesome video!
Thank you, Chris!! I (Jen) am originally from St. Louis and have loved and been fascinated by this building for years as well. I had no idea when I was admiring it from afar that it was so detailed in architecture. After seeing it close up and then taking a journey into the interior, I fell in love with it even more. It makes us happy to know that we could bring people along with us on this adventure! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a great comment!
@@JMExplorations Oh that’s awesome! I’ve always been intrigued by that building. I used to take the Metro Link into the Lou from the Illinois side for work for a few years and couldn’t get enough of the architecture. Seeing the unfortunate disrepair East St. Louis has fallen under is really sad but the crumbling buildings there are what got me interested in urbex! My wife and I lived in Virginia for 4 years and the amount of abandoned buildings out there was astonishing. Everywhere we went there was some beautiful dilapidated structure with some kind of story that deserved to be explored. My buddy and I went into the Dejarnette Sanitarium in Staunton, VA. I recommend if you’re ever out that way! Stay safe out there!
The outside of the building is a work of art, it's a tragedy the inside is so trashed. Still beautiful, I hope the structure can be saved and re-purposed.
The first time I (Jen) saw this building for the first time, I was literally blown away. We are truly thankful to have had the chance to film the beauty of the architecture both inside and out and to share it with you. Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!
What a stunning architectural wonder! Sad to see it in such a dilapidated state. Must have been a luxurious marvel in its glory days. Thank you for taking us there and to help keep its memory alive. Loved the old photographs that you added. Really brought the energy and vibrancy to life. Thank you and take care! LeeAnn
Southern Ontario Sasquatch thank you! This building was so incredible on the outside! Even the inside had some areas where you could tell how grand it was! :)
Ok im baaaak!! Lets do this.. ☺️☺️☺️ Incredible architecture and facade. Love the narrative Jen. It was a lot more trashed inside than I had anticipated from the outside. Its such a huge theatre and still has a presence. It has a very palatial feel to it. Bet it was elegant & grand back in the day. As always, another epic explore 👊🏻☺️

Awwww Guys!!! Our schedules are conflicting right now...I look for you always...just tickled me to see you this am!!! Is it just me...but the earlier theater's remind me of earlier cathedrals..architecturally speaking....buildings where love resides!!! Your explore was great...as always the history you Guys always offer is great...and it's always like checking in with old friends and that's the best!!! Thank you for all that you do..Marcel scares the bejeezer...lol..out of me...lol. Thanks Guys for taking me along!!!!❤❤✌🙂
I assume you are talking about 16:35. I would like to see a silent era theater urbex for the new place some emphasis on the organ layout, even if the organ is long gone. In addition to buy pavers it would be a Lift for the Console, a Relay Room and a Blower Room in addition to Wind Lines for the high-pressure blowers these instruments often used.
You guys did an amazing job on this beautiful old theater!! Ive seen a few people go in but it was just awful footage and they didnt stay in long... thank you for all you do!!
This is going to sound like a crazy idea BUT !!! Maybe if we reach out to the Majestic Theaters still left and others in the entertainment industry COULD THEY STILL SAVE IT?! Do you think that could be possible? It could be used not just to watch movies and theater productions but also for fund raisers, MAYBE training for theater students and such?
It is such a magnificent beauty and wouldn't it be wonderful. Unfortunately, the inside of this building is most likely beyond reasonable repair. As it stands on the National Register of Historic places, we can rest assured that it is protected. Perhaps it could capture the attention of an entity that could help revive it, but it seems like it may just stand as a historic reminder of magnificent days gone by....
@@JMExplorations You are probably right. It would have to be completely gutted and re--done. But it can't hurt to try. Then if nothing comes about at least it was worth that try. April kiddies are known to be fighters, Mars is my planet. Can't hurt to write to the Majestic Theaters company folks, all they could say is "no".
When the Statue of Liberty 1st came to America money was raised to have something for it to sit on, even kids from all over the US would have penny drives back then and look at the statue today ! SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO SAVE THIS THEATER !
@@JMExplorations You bet chah!!! It's worth a good try, and it sure would be great to see the place put back together and to be a proud happy building again where many happy memories could be made for years to come. They'd better make you too VIP's at it's grand opening, I'll be driving your limo 🎩 👻
For all the good it will do I will write to Texas and see what they say....they own one of those theaters. They can say "yes" it "no". Maybe reach out to Bill Gates, or Producer Mike... Reach out to the state the building is in . At least give it a good try. What could it hurt?

It's a beautiful day in Maryland.
@@chriswilkinson7654 Ahhh!!! So we read this and said... road trip!! Lol. Thank you for the suggestion and we hope to hear from you again!
@@JMExplorations 😃😃😃😃
Wow! Great video and a truly beautiful building! ❤️
SunnySide of Everything thank you!! It truly was MAJESTIC!!! :)
Excellent video! Definitely a place I have on my bucket list should I ever get there. Keep on exploring!
Mr. P. Explores thank you!!! You should definitely go! It's an amazing place to see in person!! :)
My favorite video of yours so far! Great job guys!
Thank you, Matt! It truly was an honor to explore this location and we appreciate your support!! :)
Ok im baaaak!! Lets do this.. ☺️☺️☺️
Incredible architecture and facade. Love the narrative Jen. It was a lot more trashed inside than I had anticipated from the outside. Its such a huge theatre and still has a presence. It has a very palatial feel to it. Bet it was elegant & grand back in the day. As always, another epic explore 👊🏻☺️
Explore with me, Marlo C 🍃 thank you! This place was just so awesome! the outside is just mesmerizing!! The inside is trashed but you can tell that it used to be so amazing!!! Thanks for coming along and be safe!! :)
What an incredible place to see, both then and now! Btw - Excellent narration during the intro!! You guys continue to impress us with one great video after another!!
Nick P Was Here thank you our friend!!! I (Marcel) wish you wouldn't fill Jennifer's head letting her know she did good on the narration!!! Her head is big enough!!! LMAO....j/k....We appreciate the kind words!!! :)
J&M Explorations Hahahaha. I’ll keep that in.. Mind lol... Also, it was awesome how the natural light was hitting the stage area. Very cool explore!
Nick P Was Here yeah the natural lighting on the stage was awesome! We wish the lighting could have been better to see the theater! It was so beautiful!!!
Those boxes close to the stage above the doorways with pillars were the pipe organ chambers. Most likely a Wurlitzer pipe organ.
It must have been such a grand sight to see! Thank you so much for watching and for such an informative comment!
The organ was reinstalled in a different theater as a Lobby Organ.
Possibly a console lift, Left side of pit @18:29, apparently they had two consoles and 8 ranks of pipes split between the two chambers.
You guys did an amazing job on this beautiful old theater!! Ive seen a few people go in but it was just awful footage and they didnt stay in long... thank you for all you do!!
Haunted Ramblings thank you so much for your kind words!! We were so drawn to this place when we first spotted it! We just had to go inside!! lol
I love East St
Louis, Illinois I would love to
This City Become a giant
Metropolis, like in China
Infrastructure has failed this City
When owners dont take care of buildings this happens . Once the roof leaks . Its done for !!
That is a true story!!!
You have the same passion for this place as we do!!
@@JMExplorations You bet chah!!! It's worth a good try, and it sure would be great to see the place put back together and to be a proud happy building again where many happy memories could be made for years to come. They'd better make you too VIP's at it's grand opening, I'll be driving your limo 🎩
👻
For all the good it will do I will write to Texas and see what they say....they own one of those theaters. They can say "yes" it "no".
Maybe reach out to Bill Gates, or Producer Mike... Reach out to the state the building is in .
At least give it a good try. What could it hurt?
It touches our heart that you would do this. Thank you
