Love the build. Have suggestion on improvement. Take cut off from bottom of tank, shorten and use couple latches to secure where they can't get to float. You may have already done that. I will build couple for my goats. great design.
Thank for your comment. I was concerned with the float but so far, the goats haven’t messed with it and it have been doing great for 2 years now. You will have to clean the little hole where the water feeds into the small Barrel. Thanks again. 😃

@@royfamilyhomestead3196 I just found your video & LOVE how well it works that's the kind of setup I need for 6 dogs & on a well would be great for them. How much did the supplies cost & how did you keep it from freezing in the winter months?
I'm considering creating a water dispenser for mature goats by attaching a goat's nipple to a barrel. Based on your experience, do you think mature goats would use this setup for drinking?
We tried the metal pig nipple early on and they wouldn’t us it. I don’t think adults would use a nipple of any sort. You could try it on a cheap 5 gallon bucket and see.
It could freeze. The hose on our did a couple of times but thawed by mid-day. The barrel never did. Im thinking about designing a wind operated agitator.
We’ve not had any problems with them bothering the float. It might be because of the lip all the way around that end of the barrel. I kept an eye on it and thought if they did start messing with it, I was going to take a 4” pvc pipe and make a cover. Watch the end of the video and I kind of explain what I was going to do. Thanks for the question. Please like share and subscribe. 😃
It’s holding up extremely well. I did add a shaded top over the small barrel to help in keeping it cooler and cleaner. As far as the big barrel, we’ve not had any issues with the water getting hot. The plastic is really thick. Thanks for your question. 😃

@@timothyridgeway6789 all I did was drill a hole just big enough for the threaded portion of the float assembly and tightened everything up using the provided hardware that came with the float.
Also comes with the gasket and plastic nut and on the cut drum where you got for the goats to drink out of do I need that brass fitting to screw the float to ? Or could I drill a hole then put the float through the hole and tighten it up ?
Actually, we've been using this system for 2 years now without any issues. I clean it once a years and flush the tubing 2 to three time a year. Take 15 minutes tops. as far as temperature, I'm not sure if it because they are blue barrels but the goats have never seemed to mind and when i clean the small barrell, the water always feels cool to lukewarm even on the hottest days. But thanks for the comment. maybe other people have thought the same thing and now they can read my comment. :)
I'm a Nigerian, and i'm proud of my dwarf goats. Nice video.
This is BRILLIANT! Thanks for the inspiration, from across the pond.
Thanks 😊anything to make the chores easier lol
Thanks for the video, rainy day in SC and been snagging ideas for a chicken watering system, lots of great ideas in this video!
Thanks! We enjoy our little homestead.

Great video, subscribed for more. One favor to ask, do you mind putting a list of your supplies, link, and cost in the description?
This what I needed I plan to use this for a spring summer set up.
It’s been working great with no issues

Use a soaker hose at the outside garden after the regular hose Leigh needed to get to beds . Just thinking .
New subscriber my hubby’s gonna make this for our Nigerian Goats thank you 🙏
It’s been working perfectly.
Nice idea sir keep it up❤ love from pakistan❤
You can use the bottom of the top piece and cut it about 8 inches long, and put it over the float end it would cover it all up
Nice idea was looking for something like that
It’s been 9 months since we built this and it is still working great.

Great job smart man
Thanks. Just trying to make thing a little easier on the homestead
You could shorten the barrel piece you cut off to make a shield.
Funny you said that, I just pulled that piece out and was thinking the exact same thing. Thanks

Wanna use this for our pigs goats and rabbits using a ibc tote
What for there's a valve? Make a hole lower and you can remove a floating valve (if your upper barrel haven't a leaks)
That’s a good idea but I didn’t want to worry about trying to keep the big barrel airtight.
Did anyone catch the saying measure once cut twice 😅 good video nice idea
Lol I didn’t catch that in the editing. 🤫
Does this freeze in the winter. We get really cold winter here

How are you keeping the goats from breaking off your float?

Thank you so much. Sure saves time.
It's been a year, how's it holding up a year later? How do you keep the water cool in the 55 gal drum?

Your a genius
Thanks. I cannot take all the credit for this project. I watched several TH-cam videos and came up with my own design.
Where is a good place to look for those used blue barrels? I looked at new ones and almost fainted. Lol
We have a guy near us that sells them for $25ea. I know I e seen a bunch of ads on Facebook Market
Craigslist has them occasionally or you can check restaurant supply stores that are open
Float was a little too high. Water will overflow before it cuts off.
Actually it’s been working perfect for over 2 years now.
May I have the floater's Amazon link please

@@royfamilyhomestead3196 thank you so much 😍
I thought it was measure twice cut once lol
Is the float threads 3/4"?
Its threaded for a standard hose. I think it is 3/4”
Do I have to use a brass to screw the float to or could I just drill a hole and put the float through the hole and tighten it that way
@@timothyridgeway6789 all I did was drill a hole just big enough for the threaded portion of the float assembly and tightened everything up using the provided hardware that came with the float.
Oh ok because I ordered a low pressure float and it comes with a adapter fitting for water house

If I'm not mistaken I think vinegar kill goats.
?
That’s plenty water probably to much it will get nasty an hot very fast
