Thank fuck they did, there are some amazing devvy killing weapons now. i find the marksman rifles have insane power against them, but there are some other options: the scythe is amazing too, with it's new scope and 0 recoil, it can melt devestator heads the tenderizer is also a very forgiving option, i've found that putting it on max RoF, and using burst fire gives the best results, it still has good recoil and feels a bit snappier than the scythe since it fires instantly.
The railgun is extremely underrated, It oneshots devastators, reloads super fast, has very good handling and doesn't need a backpack. The HMG is also THE devastator counter but it's awkward handling make it hard to be mobile and agressive so I honestly prefer the MG over it, which still kills devastators extremely fast. AMR is also a really solid choice against them. Also the HMG emplacement stratagem is an absolute beast and completely overlooked by people, that thing even mulches Hulks.
It is if you're aiming for bodyshots (2 shots per kill) instead of headshots (1 shot per kill). For devastator headshots it's just a worse DCS which is just a worse Diligence for it.
@@mystery_exeIn the new update, shooting the lower abdomen (weakpoint/unarmored) will one shot the Devastator. Unless you're so far the dmg drop does you in. DCS and Normal Diligence can both take it down through the abdomen in 3-4 shots

I really like devastators because of their design. They are an intimidating enemy for new players that don't get any stronger, just more numerous. How you go about killing one is based on your set up, but for low armor pen weapons the head torso and weapons are valid targets. A lot of people neglect disarming higher level bots. Devastators like many bots become non issues with their primary weapon removed. So if your having trouble with devastators engage from cover and remove their primary weapon and they are as good as dead. With out their guns they can only punch you and they are not fast enough to catch you. Disabling bots is a core part of their design. Many bots can have their threat level reduced to practically nothing far faster than simply killing them. Hulks tanks and factory striders can also be crippled to hilarious effect. Factory striders loose the majority of their killing power when their chin mounted MGs are destroyed. Most medium armor pen weapons can remove the guns in just a few shots. Compare a few shots to the several air strikes, orbitals and lives lost in the process of killing it. Disabling is always an option and depending on your situation is going to be faster or your only option, because you don't always have the luxury of a kill shot.

as an avid bot player with plenty of hours facing them, I know of 2 good ways of dealing with devastators. the first is to carry a medium armor piercing primary like the dominator or slugger to break through the armored chest plate. both these weapons can break through normal and rocket devastator armor pretty easily but struggle a bit on heavy devastators. they have enough stun to keep them from firing and enough damage to deal one in in a few shots. the other option is to improve your aim. regardless of your weapon a shot or two to the head is going to kill any kind of devastator. it can be hard to get a lock on them when you're getting shot from every angle, but I've noticed that weapons like the sickle with high fire rate and low recoil can kill a devastator pretty quickly from close to mid range provided you can shoot the head. the main thing to keep in mind is that automatons have a feature called suppressing fire where they get less accurate when you're shooting at them. this can be a godsend against heavies because if you lie prone and gun them down they basically can't hit you outside of point blank. this might be hard to do if you're surrounded but if you manage to kite the enemies on you to one angle you can very easily deal with bigger swarms by standing your ground and shooting the face
I haven't used the Sickle in a while, but I found the cone of spread made killing Dev heads at medium range and longer to take too long. The new abdomen weakspot seems like a better, larger target for ARs and the Sickle which performs much like an AR.
Also don't forget the few weapons that are medium penetration ie: The adjudicator (if you can handle the recoil), The Dominator, the Scorcher, The explosive crossbow (can take out multiple devastators in 1 hit), The eruptor and the liberator penetrator (i think that got buffed) all ignore class 3 armour however they would experience that 33% reduction on some of them but the explosive ones deal enough damage to overcome this
Adjudicator is the jack-of-all-trades primary that brings the B.A.R. back. It can even down Gunships (stick to semi-auto for those until your aim and recoil control improves). I run it with Senator on most level 10s, unless I feel like mixing things up and training new skills. HMG is the stratagem version of jack-of-all-trades. It’s not as crazy good as the railgun, but it CAN kill Factory Strider bellies and tank/turret rears very easily. And Arc Thrower just erases every bot that walks on two legs (making it situationally better than HMG).
Th diligence counter sniper is a must for me. It allows you to surgically remove devastator heads, or just click spam them like they arent even armoured, while allowing you to clear any troopers with a single click. This works for me since i play with light armor and try to avoid patrols and play as stealthy as possible, so usually im the one ambushing them.
The Counter sniper primary is my new go to for devastators and every other small enemy. The handling is better than most weapons imo and it only takes one shot to the head to kill it. If you have the patience to crouch and shoot for a couple seconds (with cover preferably), you can take out those annoying ass rocket devastators within a couple seconds. If aiming isn't your strong suit, bring the default shotgun. The stun is strong enough to stun all devastators (as far as I know from experience), meaning you can take them out without them being able to shoot you back. VERY useful for rocket or heavy devastators. TLDR: Counter sniper good if you like aiming for the head. Default shotgun good for stun, meaning they don't shoot back.
I NEVER had issues with devestators strictly because my favourite weapons: The Liberator, Diligence, Anti-Material Sniper, Machine Gun, they all can pop devestator heads like a grape, especially when you crouch or go prone. Bonus points if you hide behind cover, because bullets do NOT go through cover :D
Not mentioning railgun OR counter sniper is wild. Railgun 1-ahotting them to the body lets you just shred them, and counter sbiper makes the 1-tap breakpoint on thw head, not to mention I think 3 or 4 ahots to the body. 1-tapoing heads is the most important break point, because it means you can kill them before they notice you and start moving. It's also cool to just provide support to teammates from afar picking off all the devastators.
As a bot diver from the first day I played, yes. I know the Devastators so well that I rarely even get ragdolled. I can dodge and time rocket boys pretty consistently.
My top devastator tip is to attack it with turkey feathers. They are extremely ticklish and will buckle before you in surrender, otherwise they'll pee themselves, which would be SUPER embarrassing to do in front of their friends. 10/10 Works everytime! *tries to do thumbs up with a mangled arm*
Laser Cannon, MG-43, and Heavy Machine Gun are all incredibly effective Devastator lawn mowers, especially the Laser Cannon and just casually melting heads after it’s recoil was removed, trivializes Heavy Devs the moment you can see their eyes Another tip in a pinch is if you’re using weapons like the Diligences or Assault Rifles (Libby, Tendy, Judy, etc) you can disarm heavy Devastators to give you breathing room against multiple, and it effectively just turns them into Berserkers but slow and significantly worse melee capabilities

Unfortunately the majority of the video was written before the patch, so the crossbow's 'devastating' lethality against Devastators just couldn't be put into the video. I was already losing my hair trying to adjust the video for the Devastator changes. I love the patch, but I hated the timing.
The Diligence Counter Sniper is also a really good pick as well. You only need a pop or two on the head to scrap em. Sure it’s no big iron on the hip, but it’s good for what it offers, not to mention if you don’t have the war bond for the handgun.
The regular diligence is a pretty solid choice if you can click heads well at most distances. If you've got the accuracy but not the precision then it's older sibling Count Sniper variant will lend you the stagger and armor pen you need to make quick work of most of their weak points.
To answer your question before the video starts in my completely subjective timeframe of clicking on it, What I know about devastators is that they are the weakest base model of the three, and as someone who only plays on 9 or higher, seeing them means one of those no good ATAT Knockoffs is nearby.
Someone already mentioned it, but the railgun is probably one of the best solutions, especially if you don't scope in. The game seems REALLY generous with headshots specifically on devastators. And even then you can just go for torso shots on safe mode for a clean one hit kill on non heavy devs. Something I don't think you mentioned is how effective range is. I mean yeah it's obvious in hind sight, but there's a real sharp contrast between getting shot at by a H.Devastator from 20 meters, and one form 60+ meters. Sure, not every laser or rocket will miss, but it's alot less likely to hit you if you're crouch/prone farther away, and railgun takes perfect advantage of that. Range is one of the best soft counters to Devastators. Another thing for teamwork/friends specifically is how much of an advantage flanking provides. If your buddy is getting shot at but you're not, it gives you plenty of easy to line up shots against Devastators. A H.Devastor's shield only protects it from the front, and if you get a side flank, those are easy torso shots with a railgun. If you see your friends are getting blasted, hit the Automatons from the side. They'll either turn to engage you which removes suppression from team mates OR they'll ignore you, letting you chain snipe them into oblivion. Hell, even Hulks are weak to this, as when they try to focus down a target (obliterator/bruiser) or bull rush it (scorcher), you can shoot their legs if they're facing a 90 degree angle away from you to cripple their speed, and kill them if you keep attacking the legs.
It's basically "Do you have medium pen?" Spamming like half (or even my full mag if I suck at aiming) of my adjudicators magazine just doesn't feel fair especially when I just see like 4 more striders waiting to obliterate me
A few weapons I'd personally highlight against devastators are definitely the HMG, Grenade Launcher and railgun, they all do a really good job overall while having different disadvantages compared to the autocanno, it's a preference thing really I'd say
ill add one thing, the explosive crossbow is another beast for killing mid tier enemies, its explosion can go through the heavy devastator shields, and i thnk it does the most damage out of any primary weapon.
Second comment but iirc, the Devastator’s head armor was increased due to the buffs to the Liberator, which gave it an extra magazine and 70 damage, so they increased the breakpoint by increasing armor value so the Tenderizer didn’t get outshined by a another gun with low recoil, but generous ammo economy and a higher fire rate with comparative damage on weaknesses points
Im always looking for a way to sharpen my skills, so I greatly appreciate this! If I wasn't already the bane of these things, I sure will be! Edit: I found sometimes going for the pods can mean another diver getting blown to orbit or being able to get its attention to actually finish it off. Also, if all else fails, explosives won't.
okay so hear me out.. the (ballistic) guard dog. i feel like its been REALLY slept on, even after its updates (fully filling from a resupply, and getting a large portion of ammo back from small pickups on the map). i think a lot of people favor the rover over it because of its tendency to just not stop shooting. however, this has been acknowledged and will be fixed in the future so may as well get used to guard dog downtime now anyway. the ballistic one also has a MUCH lower tendency to kill you and other divers, and it also feels like moving and bobbing around affects its aim way less. you will have goofy moments where its shooting a fab or a heavy devastator shield, but about half as often or more my guard dog will instantly kill devastators with a swift shot in the head. it also lets you run lower fire rate weapons (like the plasma punisher or the crossbow) since it can effectively remove infantry units from even being a thought in your head. give it an honest try!
One pro-tip. If a Heavy Devestator shoots at you, shoot at him, Automotons can uniquely be suppressed, in the case of the heavy devestator, it will make them highly innaccurate. It won't prevent them from headshotting you, but it will make it less likely.
When I whip out my trusty R-36 Eruptor, devastators go from predator to prey, they weep at my mere sight as they see their other devastator buddies get exploded in half by 15mm of Freedom
if using a weapon with high stagger, like the pummeler especially aiming for a non lethal part of the devastator will still stunlock it if you get a full hit, aiming for the rocket pack is a good idea to quickly stunlock a group of devastators and make them easy pickings for your friends
I think this has missed the most important point - all devastators can kill you or ragdoll then kill you if you are standing still in their sight for more than 3 seconds. Therefore the important reflexes are - if there's one who's got line of sight to you, shoot it to stagger it then kill it, and if there's more than one with LOS to you, DIVE, get to cover, then deal with them one by one. (Or use a suitable grenade or grenade pistol shot THEN dive, but the most important things is - NEVER deal with a group of devastators in a facetanking competition. The more important thing to know is to keep yourself alive over "how to kill a devastator". Other than that, a surprisingly good option to take is shooting the legs - AC 2 and lethal, so even with 500 HP taking out a leg from round a corner is surprisingly effective.
devastators' legs are also a weak spot (not in the mechanical sense of receiving extra damage, but they're easy to hit and if you destroy a leg the bot dies). the AMR can kill devs in 2 shots to the leg, and if a heavy devastator is facing you their shield doesn't cover their right leg. i also like to bring the machine gun sentry because it can handle entire patrols (less hulks) by itself and its cooldown is short enough to be used in basically every fight
The single best tool to deal with those things is the Diligence. And no, I don't mean it's slightly heavier son, the Counter Sniper. The base Diligence boasts significantly better handling and WAY more ammo while still one-shot-headshotting any and all devastators (Which means their heads have to AV1 because they have 100hp and the Diligence does 165 damage). You can take out dozens of those vile tin cans in mere seconds! Just be a little mindful of positioning and try to use at least a bit of your brain and it'll make the autocannon look like a throwing knife in (this specific) comparison.
used to be my go to before the dcs was buffed to one shot, but now i'm too used to the sluggishness of the dcs and can't give up that 3 shot to the hip on the walkers. (Also the damage vs gunships and hulk heatsinks is pretty nice)
It's one of the weapons that received one of the bigger buffs this patch. They boosted it's damage to match what the counter sniper used to have.@@G1beonGames
Hear me out; The grenade launcher. Not the pistol, the stratagem. Ive used it tons of times on the bots, it 2 shots on average and stuns any devastator in its blast radius meaning you can spam it at entire hordes, and then the entire horde is gone in seconds. It can also one shot striders, and if you're good enough you can kill the laser only tanks, and hulks if you land grenades between their legs so the splash damage hits the vents, or just directly hit the vents from behind. Its underrated as hell, and with it i have no issue wiping entire swarms of bots on my own.
I find the explosive crossbow to be a good stand in for an autocannon if you want to bring a different support weapon like the recoiless rifle. And you really do wanna bring one after the new patch
charge plama pistol shot to the shield then a few follow up shots for shields, anti material rifle to the waist bisects the rest is my personal prefrence, balistic shield helps with the shielded ones
(me complaining about heavy devys) I love how the devs were talking about adding an overheat mechanic to the heavy devastator and then they just didnt add it at all The heavy devastator borders between being stupidly op and then also the game considers them as chaff and spams like 4+ every patrol Why can a heavy devastator tank a buffed quasar round to the shield? I tested it and it takes about 3 shors to kill a heavy devastator to the shield. "Oh but why are you shooting the shield thats kinda stupid" ITS A CHAFF UNIT AN ANTI TANK WEAPON SHOULD BE ABLE TO 1 TAP IT REGARDLESS OF WHERE IM SHOOTING IT Why is the shield somehow more tanky then the armour of a hulk (hulks feel more fair to face against except for the bruiser with its command bunker turret arm)
I disagree, the rocket pods break quickly, are easy to hit, and dramatically reduce the range and ragdoll advantages rocket devastators have. if they aren't looking right at you, no headshot or abdomen shot, it's a great way to help your friends. And thanks for the tips! I hate devastators.

Two things you forgot to talk about 1 if you go full foot fetish on the removing a leg will kill them 2 the crossbow can two shot any dev if you hit them in the chest and as a ➕️ can be used with the ballistic shield to just say no to heavy devs

Devestators are really fun to deal with using the explosive crossbow cuz they all go down in 2 hits and get flung into the air like ballet dancers
being one-handed, it can also use the Ballistic Shield too, which is a *GODSEND* for how much it already does

I have 550hrs ~, so nothing new to me, but this video was actually high quality so o just keept watching.

Yep! Las weaponry cause them to burn, which is surprising REALLY effective. And since it’s a big ol’ target to hit, it’s easy to take them down.

They are extremely ticklish and will buckle before you in surrender, otherwise they'll pee themselves, which would be SUPER embarrassing to do in front of their friends.

Laser Cannon, MG-43, and Heavy Machine Gun are all incredibly effective Devastator lawn mowers, especially the Laser Cannon and just casually melting heads after it’s recoil was removed, trivializes Heavy Devs the moment you can see their eyes
Another tip in a pinch is if you’re using weapons like the Diligences or Assault Rifles (Libby, Tendy, Judy, etc) you can disarm heavy Devastators to give you breathing room against multiple, and it effectively just turns them into Berserkers but slow and significantly worse melee capabilities

Unfortunately the majority of the video was written before the patch, so the crossbow's 'devastating' lethality against Devastators just couldn't be put into the video. I was already losing my hair trying to adjust the video for the Devastator changes. I love the patch, but I hated the timing.
The Diligence Counter Sniper is also a really good pick as well. You only need a pop or two on the head to scrap em. Sure it’s no big iron on the hip, but it’s good for what it offers, not to mention if you don’t have the war bond for the handgun.

The regular diligence is a pretty solid choice if you can click heads well at most distances. If you've got the accuracy but not the precision then it's older sibling Count Sniper variant will lend you the stagger and armor pen you need to make quick work of most of their weak points.

To answer your question before the video starts in my completely subjective timeframe of clicking on it,
What I know about devastators is that they are the weakest base model of the three, and as someone who only plays on 9 or higher, seeing them means one of those no good ATAT Knockoffs is nearby.
Someone already mentioned it, but the railgun is probably one of the best solutions, especially if you don't scope in. The game seems REALLY generous with headshots specifically on devastators. And even then you can just go for torso shots on safe mode for a clean one hit kill on non heavy devs. Something I don't think you mentioned is how effective range is. I mean yeah it's obvious in hind sight, but there's a real sharp contrast between getting shot at by a H.Devastator from 20 meters, and one form 60+ meters. Sure, not every laser or rocket will miss, but it's alot less likely to hit you if you're crouch/prone farther away, and railgun takes perfect advantage of that. Range is one of the best soft counters to Devastators.
Another thing for teamwork/friends specifically is how much of an advantage flanking provides. If your buddy is getting shot at but you're not, it gives you plenty of easy to line up shots against Devastators. A H.Devastor's shield only protects it from the front, and if you get a side flank, those are easy torso shots with a railgun. If you see your friends are getting blasted, hit the Automatons from the side. They'll either turn to engage you which removes suppression from team mates OR they'll ignore you, letting you chain snipe them into oblivion. Hell, even Hulks are weak to this, as when they try to focus down a target (obliterator/bruiser) or bull rush it (scorcher), you can shoot their legs if they're facing a 90 degree angle away from you to cripple their speed, and kill them if you keep attacking the legs.

A few weapons I'd personally highlight against devastators are definitely the HMG, Grenade Launcher and railgun, they all do a really good job overall while having different disadvantages compared to the autocanno, it's a preference thing really I'd say
ill add one thing, the explosive crossbow is another beast for killing mid tier enemies, its explosion can go through the heavy devastator shields, and i thnk it does the most damage out of any primary weapon.
Second comment but iirc, the Devastator’s head armor was increased due to the buffs to the Liberator, which gave it an extra magazine and 70 damage, so they increased the breakpoint by increasing armor value so the Tenderizer didn’t get outshined by a another gun with low recoil, but generous ammo economy and a higher fire rate with comparative damage on weaknesses points
Arc thrower seems to be a pretty good option as well...with the stun and being able to jump to multiple enemies, also makes quick work of them

Edit: I found sometimes going for the pods can mean another diver getting blown to orbit or being able to get its attention to actually finish it off. Also, if all else fails, explosives won't.

okay so hear me out..
the (ballistic) guard dog. i feel like its been REALLY slept on, even after its updates (fully filling from a resupply, and getting a large portion of ammo back from small pickups on the map). i think a lot of people favor the rover over it because of its tendency to just not stop shooting. however, this has been acknowledged and will be fixed in the future so may as well get used to guard dog downtime now anyway. the ballistic one also has a MUCH lower tendency to kill you and other divers, and it also feels like moving and bobbing around affects its aim way less. you will have goofy moments where its shooting a fab or a heavy devastator shield, but about half as often or more my guard dog will instantly kill devastators with a swift shot in the head. it also lets you run lower fire rate weapons (like the plasma punisher or the crossbow) since it can effectively remove infantry units from even being a thought in your head.

One pro-tip.
If a Heavy Devestator shoots at you, shoot at him, Automotons can uniquely be suppressed, in the case of the heavy devestator, it will make them highly innaccurate. It won't prevent them from headshotting you, but it will make it less likely.

Dominator remains my go to for bots. Stun locks Devastators along with potentially one-shotting the head.
When I whip out my trusty R-36 Eruptor, devastators go from predator to prey, they weep at my mere sight as they see their other devastator buddies get exploded in half by 15mm of Freedom

if using a weapon with high stagger, like the pummeler especially aiming for a non lethal part of the devastator will still stunlock it if you get a full hit, aiming for the rocket pack is a good idea to quickly stunlock a group of devastators and make them easy pickings for your friends
I think this has missed the most important point - all devastators can kill you or ragdoll then kill you if you are standing still in their sight for more than 3 seconds.
Therefore the important reflexes are - if there's one who's got line of sight to you, shoot it to stagger it then kill it, and if there's more than one with LOS to you, DIVE, get to cover, then deal with them one by one. (Or use a suitable grenade or grenade pistol shot THEN dive, but the most important things is - NEVER deal with a group of devastators in a facetanking competition. The more important thing to know is to keep yourself alive over "how to kill a devastator".
Other than that, a surprisingly good option to take is shooting the legs - AC 2 and lethal, so even with 500 HP taking out a leg from round a corner is surprisingly effective.
The Diligence CS can also One Shot any Devastators with a single Well placed Headshot

devastators' legs are also a weak spot (not in the mechanical sense of receiving extra damage, but they're easy to hit and if you destroy a leg the bot dies). the AMR can kill devs in 2 shots to the leg, and if a heavy devastator is facing you their shield doesn't cover their right leg. i also like to bring the machine gun sentry because it can handle entire patrols (less hulks) by itself and its cooldown is short enough to be used in basically every fight
The single best tool to deal with those things is the Diligence. And no, I don't mean it's slightly heavier son, the Counter Sniper. The base Diligence boasts significantly better handling and WAY more ammo while still one-shot-headshotting any and all devastators (Which means their heads have to AV1 because they have 100hp and the Diligence does 165 damage). You can take out dozens of those vile tin cans in mere seconds! Just be a little mindful of positioning and try to use at least a bit of your brain and it'll make the autocannon look like a throwing knife in (this specific) comparison.
I've never thought the Diligence was particularly good, perhaps I treated it too harshly...

used to be my go to before the dcs was buffed to one shot, but now i'm too used to the sluggishness of the dcs and can't give up that 3 shot to the hip on the walkers. (Also the damage vs gunships and hulk heatsinks is pretty nice)

Hear me out; The grenade launcher. Not the pistol, the stratagem. Ive used it tons of times on the bots, it 2 shots on average and stuns any devastator in its blast radius meaning you can spam it at entire hordes, and then the entire horde is gone in seconds. It can also one shot striders, and if you're good enough you can kill the laser only tanks, and hulks if you land grenades between their legs so the splash damage hits the vents, or just directly hit the vents from behind. Its underrated as hell, and with it i have no issue wiping entire swarms of bots on my own.
I find the explosive crossbow to be a good stand in for an autocannon if you want to bring a different support weapon like the recoiless rifle.
And you really do wanna bring one after the new patch

the tenderizer is pretty decent at killing devastators if you can get the headshot, it's light recoil and high damage make quick work of them.
With the scorcher heavy devastators become much less of a concern because it just takes about half a magazine hit anywhere and their ded.

I almost always use a Blitzer, its range sucks, but it can stunlock multiple devastators, and kill them pretty fast.
charge plama pistol shot to the shield then a few follow up shots for shields, anti material rifle to the waist bisects the rest is my personal prefrence, balistic shield helps with the shielded ones

I disagree, the rocket pods break quickly, are easy to hit, and dramatically reduce the range and ragdoll advantages rocket devastators have. if they aren't looking right at you, no headshot or abdomen shot, it's a great way to help your friends. And thanks for the tips! I hate devastators.

I just shoot the devastators twice(or 3 times for the shield ones) with the eruptor (explosive sniper rifle thing) and they are dealt with easily.
