I saw Santana and Jeff Beck in 1995 at the beginning and end of tour. Carlos brought up an unnanounced guest - one of the members of SANTO AND JOHNNY. At thevend of the tour ( NY) he brought up VERNON REID and they played " Sun Ra" a tribute to SUN RA. The next morning of Jones Beach show- I went out of my way to buy their debut LP! NOTE: SANTANA didnt have a record contract for Woodstock appearance. 5:00

The melody for Europa is based on a circle of 5ths & the song 'All The Things You Are' which was popular in the 1920s (have to check that date). The circle of 5ths is a powerful musical tool to add drama to a piece & also to transition to other keys. Europa, Samba Pa Ti & Song of the Wind are my favorite Santana numbers. They are simply majestic.
Great job, "Europa" I think is a tune that makes you touch the sky with your fingers... a masterpiece
my dad was a big fan of santana as he used to own a lot of their records on vinyl and saw them a bunch of times. "europa" is my mom's favorite instrumental. santana>>>>>p.o.d. & linkin park. i never liked those bands. i hated nu metal back then and i still do. don't put deftones in that category. they were way better than that.

Gato's album is SUPERB, i wish there was a Super Audio CD of it, deserves a remaster like that!

This video seems to have completely passed over the most important detail - the connection between Europa and the tune known variously as Emporte-Moi/Amor Adios/Y Volvere. First time I heard Europa, I couldn't remember any of the names of that standard song, but I'd heard it enough times to ensure I instantly recognised the connection - specifically that guitar phrase corresponding to the "no sufras mas!" moment. What I didn't know then was that the first eight notes of Europa are a specific reference to the Y Volvere arrangement

My favorite Santana album and two instrumentals on it are sublime! In my view, the summit of Santana's art which he never topped (maybe with the exception of Moonflower). Great analysis as usual, amigo. 👍☝👏

Fue una palabra complicada. El francés me fue muy dificil en el colegio, nunca logré entender bien la fonética asi que te recibo el feedback positivo haha

thanks man for another great vid . . the Santana recording that really hit me and got me back into him was on the Live Under the Sky live with Herbie. Their version of Spartacus on that night is another very soulful epic Santana moment that reminds me of the soul speaking and wailing like you describe here. Cheers

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Definitely, and he is known by generations around the world even if the online views or trends might not show. When I was younger I may have been chasing the most technical metal guitar stuff for so long and I missed the importance of that soulful appeal. My parents also loved this music and had his CDs to play for happy times. Some people say, as musicians we express who we are inside as people, and that is something Mr Santana clearly excels in as well. The kindness and soul just emanates from him. Thanks for the reply and i'll see you next vid :)

Can’t wait for this. I absolutely love the “Amigos” album. Along with Zeppelin, I’m a huge Santana fan. I love everything up to and including “Shango” and I’ve been lucky enough to see Carlos twice in concert…. back in the 80’s. One show in 89 Jeff Beck opened for him. What a double bill! I really dig the Spanish flare to Santana’s music. That Hammersmith 76 footage with him doing Europa is amazing….the whole gig rocks! Cheers
