“Once, there was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died. The end.” It may not have helped SpongeBob, but that story still cracks me up to this day.
"Something Smells" is one of Patrick's best episodes. His methods might not have always worked, but he did everything he could to make SpongeBob feel good about himself again. A true friend right there. Plus, "The Ugly Barnacle" and "LOOK AT IT!" are still hilarious.
I love how SpongeBob is really into all of Pearl's changes until she messes with the menu. No one messes with the Krabby Patty! I also like how he helps her get out of the job at the end.
I love how Spongebob says to the blue fish, “I hope my horrible ugliness won’t be a distraction for you.” One might imagine the blue fish to normally say something like, “Oh you’re not ugly,” instead he says, “Not at all boy.” He didn’t even deny Spongebob being ugly. 😅
My personal guess as to how Patrick's psyche works: whenever there's something he can't explain (so like, once every 11 minutes), his brain clings to the first random idea it comes up with, such as "maybe it's because SpongeBob is ugly". Then his brain constructs a whole new perceprion of reality based on that random idea, adjusting his memories and personality accordingly.
So, fun little fact. In "Something Smells" there is a recording error where Spongebob repeats dialogue when his talking to the building, but ONLY in the DVDs. Instead of saying "Hi building" like he does in Paramount or tv, you will hear "I just don't get it" followed by Patricks "I don't either" right before they say it, again. Its an error throughout EVERY DVD with that episode and has never been corrected. As a kid, I thought I must have scratched up my "Nautical Nonsenses" DVD because of the repeated line. But recently, I bought the 300 episode DVD box in celebration of 25 years of Spongebob, just to find the SAME ERROR. I was floored!
It’s funny how Patrick didn’t even attempt to “test” SpongeBob’s way of dressing or his voice like he did for ugliness. Admit it Patrick, you wanted SpongeBob to be ugly.
It always blows my mind when someone around my age range only starts watching spongebob when they're well into adulthood. Still, it's nice to see people experience one of the greatest ever made for the first time. It's a rare sight :)
Hi, parade! Hi, tuba player, hi, drummer, hi, guy with the cymbals, hi, trumpeter, hi, tambourine girl, hi, timbale man, hi, didgeridoo player, hi, triangle player, hi, guy with the kettle drum, hi, pianist, hi, guy with the flute. And hello, Dolly! 🎳
5:41 what do you mean EVEN Twitter? Like it's a surprise? Twitter is the FIRST place I'd expect that stuff. It's like a meme at this point. Get banned for the n-word? Nope. Get banned for using the word cis? Sure.
Twitter is the place where you’ll find being so far right and those who are so far left. Racists and those who are so “woke” to reason to reason. I hardly see any in between
For me, the episode with Pearl was like a lot of those Malicious Compliance stories that I hear about on Reddit, where a new manager comes in and starts trying to change everything to stroke their ego. As a result, a business that once worked like a well-oiled machine suddenly drops in performance, and the manager is either forced to revert the changes, ends up being demoted or fired, or the company goes under completely. It frankly goes back to the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm sure you--as a business owner, Alicia--understand that perfectly.
Fun fact: on a couple of DVDs that has the Episode "Something Smells" on it. For the Scene with Spongebob and the Building, it would repat the line that Spongebob says in the Next scene "I just don't get it" Instead of "Hi Building"
I liked how the townsfolk and Patrick sort of gaslight SpongeBob into thinking he's ugly. Patrick meant well, but man can he be savage with his unintended insults.
I feel there's an important lesson here. One I have learned over the years and have recently experienced for the umpteenth time in my line of work: Don't let teenagers be in the manager position! Had an 18 year old manager at my last job, and her attitude nearly got me fired, by her! She wrote me up because the work I was doing didn't let her slack off, wording it as her "picking up my slack" when she went nowhere near my workstation, even on my days off according to my coworkers. Stop putting kids in charge just because you can only give them part-time pay
I don't know if anyone else had this, but whenever I watched the Something Smells episode on Nick, (I live in the UK) when Spongebob talks to the building and it moves away the audio is flubbed. Instead of "Hi, building," and it rumbling away, the next exchange the "I just don't get!" and "I don't either." plays and the the episode returns to normal. This happened on every repeat, for years. I don't know if it still happens, since I don't watch TV anymore.
Someone made a video about that exact thing, it was apparently an editing error which only got noticed when they were recording the DVD commentary track for the episode. The crazy thing is, dubbing studios in other countries received the version with the error in it, and most of them assumed it was intentional, so they dubbed over it the same way.
"Bossy Boots" was I think the first episode on a DVD I had as a kid. Honestly pretty topical for recent discourse about "adapting to modern audiences" and such.
“Something Smells” is one of those best episodes where you can laugh and definitely highlight the best moments within it and how good it is! Even us ugly people felt empowered by it despite our confidence being in the toilet. Though the dating scene thing wise, in my experiences and view it just goes to the physically appealing people.
I know from the title alone that alica heard the story of the ugly barnacle as a kid but didn't knew it was from spongebob EDIT: turns out she was ugly and proud
I dont know if anyone mentioned it in the prom episode but while yes sponge is canonically an afult nickelodeon was heavily trying to push and force the creator to make him a child
1:57 I don't blame Alicia lol. If anyone has been to an anime convention, this is what weebs smell like when they haven't showered or wore deodorant lol.
26:36 Okay, I elect we bring doofus back. We have goof and even oof in the vernacular but I feel like doofus has a prime spot in the modern lingo meta.
Alicia if you enjoy chili let me ask you this…do you like to add corn or brisket in your chili, because my dad (who’s from southern Texas) likes to add both along with the sides of cheese, sour cream, and Fritos
Didn't skip the intro, no code word. To be fair, they did kill a kid in the "Hooky" episode, so that wasn't off the table. There's another, even better death joke later, but I shan't spoil it.
Hold up! Alicia straight up said, “Even on Twitter!” lol You were surprised there’s toxic people on TWITTER???? Whaaaaat???? No way! How could this have possibly happened??? 😱😱😱
You know, I find your Spongebob playlist so funny because the thumbnails are nothing but slightly different poses of your avatar laughing EXCEPT for the one featuring Nature Pants.
Well as a wise episode of South Park told me. The more people use a word to describe you the less power and meaning/impacted ends up having. Like shit. Or in your case the hard end/RT word. I don't feel like using the actual words because well I'm above that Science I went to a school for the blind/disabled this was normal stuff considering our English class at us read Huckfinn and stories about people with disabilities who went through shit.
“Once, there was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died. The end.” It may not have helped SpongeBob, but that story still cracks me up to this day.
Here, here!
That and "LOOK AT IT!" are the best parts of this episode. Patrick was the best here.
i always love quoting it c:
"Something Smells" is one of Patrick's best episodes. His methods might not have always worked, but he did everything he could to make SpongeBob feel good about himself again. A true friend right there. Plus, "The Ugly Barnacle" and "LOOK AT IT!" are still hilarious.
Idk why you think this...maybe it's the way you're dressed?
I love how SpongeBob is really into all of Pearl's changes until she messes with the menu. No one messes with the Krabby Patty! I also like how he helps her get out of the job at the end.
I love how Spongebob says to the blue fish, “I hope my horrible ugliness won’t be a distraction for you.” One might imagine the blue fish to normally say something like, “Oh you’re not ugly,” instead he says, “Not at all boy.” He didn’t even deny Spongebob being ugly. 😅
The way he says it leading to “DAAUGHHHHHHHHHGHGG”😂😂😂😂
being fair, he probably didn't care about his looks and wasn't even going to bother thinking about it.
"Look at it!! Look at it!! LOOK AT IT!!"
Patrick is too iconic.
@andrewblissett2211 IKR! that still makes me laugh my guts out! 🤣
Fun fact: when SB yells from his roof, Sqidward says something different in the German version. There he says: "the _proud_ part is new to me."
Dang, Germans are savage 😂😂😂
1:06 I can never get used to Avatar Alicia’s disgusted face. It makes the reactions so much funnier and better. 🤣
Patrick's a vibe 😅
Spongebob: "I'm ugly and I'm proud!"
Squidward: "Is that what he calls it?"
I see what you did there.
😆 😂
So, fun little fact.
In "Something Smells" there is a recording error where Spongebob repeats dialogue when his talking to the building, but ONLY in the DVDs. I was floored!
Yep I got the first two hundred separately and it's got the error there too. Wild.
All (or at least a lot) of the international dubs were dubbed over the version with the error too...
It’s funny how Patrick didn’t even attempt to “test” SpongeBob’s way of dressing or his voice like he did for ugliness. Admit it Patrick, you wanted SpongeBob to be ugly.

The fact that Krabs was saying the price of EVERY item he mentioned...
Yeah, he was crying on the inside the whole time before finally breaking.
5:41 what do you mean EVEN Twitter? Like it's a surprise? Twitter is the FIRST place I'd expect that stuff. It's like a meme at this point. Get banned for the n-word? Nope. Get banned for using the word cis? Sure.
Twitter is pretty much 4Chan 2.0 now
Twitter is the place where you’ll find being so far right and those who are so far left. Racists and those who are so “woke” to reason to reason. I hardly see any in between
i just gave a guttural "YES, THE UGLY BARNACLE!!!!"
So glad this episode doesnt have a glitch, and spongebob actually gets to say hi building, instead of I just don't get it, twice.
If only Alicia started watching SpongeBob a little early, the Christmas episode would've been on time.
Fun fact, here 5:10 when Patrick says maybe is the origin of Sans's voice
*Maybe it's the way you're dressed? Maybe it's- May- Mamamamamama (Megalovania intensiefies)
For me, the episode with Pearl was like a lot of those Malicious Compliance stories that I hear about on Reddit, where a new manager comes in and starts trying to change everything to stroke their ego. I love how Patrick went on the coldest roast fest of all time on SpongeBob without even realizing it
Fun fact: on a couple of DVDs that has the Episode "Something Smells" on it. For the Scene with Spongebob and the Building, it would repat the line that Spongebob says in the Next scene "I just don't get it" Instead of "Hi Building"
That's how it always played for me on the Nick TV Channel hear in the UK.
That's how I was first exposed to it.
Even as a youngling, I always knew something was off. Especially since the DVDs came with Closed Captions.
I liked how the townsfolk and Patrick sort of gaslight SpongeBob into thinking he's ugly.
Patrick meant well, but man can he be savage with his unintended insults.
13:04, 13:42
Those parts got me laughing so hard. That's where those memes came in
🤣🤣🤣🤣
8:56 Worth it!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the blue fish's face when he smells Spongebob's breath still makes me laugh so hard! 🤣
AH YES, The Ugly Barnacle, THE GREATEST SHORT STORY EVER TOLD :D
17:13 Notice how he said "a pizza" and not "some" pizza
"A little [Texture] never hurt"👁🥗
I know this sounds random, but this is the Sponge Bob episode that was used to make Sans's font sound
30:30 the US Dept of EDUCATION??
I feel there's an important lesson here. One I have learned over the years and have recently experienced for the umpteenth time in my line of work: Don't let teenagers be in the manager position! So many quotes and memes from this episode alone. 😂
Once there was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died. The End.
26:28: Yeah. The fish in Bikini Bottom are savages. XD
As soon as I saw which episode you were watching, I knew you were going to die inside the moment you saw SpongeBob's "sundae".
13:20 Flossing instructions unclear; uploading tick tok dance.
Spongebob: I'm ugly and I'm proud!
Squidward: Is that what he calls it?
😂
16:30 There’s actually a whole video committed to showcasing how Patrick is a terrible friend to SpongeBob (spoilers of course).
The guy that says MY🦵 is named Fred.
Patrick saying "Maybe it's the way you're dressed?"
That line has been cemented to the undertale community
I don't know if anyone else had this, but whenever I watched the Something Smells episode on Nick, (I live in the UK) when Spongebob talks to the building and it moves away the audio is flubbed. Instead of "Hi, building," and it rumbling away, the next exchange the "I just don't get!" and "I don't either." plays and the the episode returns to normal.
This happened on every repeat, for years. I don't know if it still happens, since I don't watch TV anymore.
That happened to me in the US a couple times too
Someone made a video about that exact thing, it was apparently an editing error which only got noticed when they were recording the DVD commentary track for the episode. The crazy thing is, dubbing studios in other countries received the version with the error in it, and most of them assumed it was intentional, so they dubbed over it the same way.
Probably the most memed episode of SpongeBob
"Something smells..what could it be?"
Guy in the back - "my leg!"
"Bossy Boots" was I think the first episode on a DVD I had as a kid.
Honestly pretty topical for recent discourse about "adapting to modern audiences" and such.
“Something Smells” is one of those best episodes where you can laugh and definitely highlight the best moments within it and how good it is!

no code word for today...im not a creative commenter, alicia. i need the code word to give you engagement
Guess the code word was ''error''
Error
Here's something you can do for the first episode here.
Swap the word ugly with racist.
Have fun.
"The Ugly Barnacle", a joke so great that it resulted in such a following, like in the form of a (joke) TV Tropes page.
5:11 fun fact: patrick's "maybe" is where toby fox got the sample for sans "voice" for undertale
Just a reminder that tomorrow is LITERALLY Christmas Day (so merry Christmas or I hope you have an amazing day if you don’t celebrate Christmas)
Also I absolutely ADORE Alicia she’s so entertaining and hilarious and she is one of my favourite Vtubers
I know from the title alone that alica heard the story of the ugly barnacle as a kid but didn't knew it was from spongebob
EDIT: turns out she was ugly and proud
There's nothing more adult than doing what you want, when you want. Especially if that's watching cartoons.
Remember to brush your teeth lads.
Instance of Skin Theory with the mail-fish.
Patrick: “Just do what I do when I have problems…. SCREEEEEAAAAM!!!!!”
Me: “So basically every liberal. Got it.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“I’m ugly and proud”… I feel targeted
pretty sure what spongebob made violates chemical warfare laws
Actually, The King Krab sounded like a nice name replacement to the Krusty Krab.
7:33 Can't believe those fish would prefer the everlasting smell of mayonnaise.
i still sometimes just go "LOOK AT IT!" when showing people stuff
I am ugly and proud 😢😅
... and that's what he calls it?
18:07 hahaha yea no 😒 some men (especially me) are just born unattractive and we can't afford to spend on cosmetics to help our looks
SpongeBob season 2 3 and 4 are non stop peak full of memes and Banned episodes lol
Now that Alicia is this far into Spongebob, she should be ready for the Spongebob Anime by Narmak. She'll at least get all the references.
Funniest short story I ever listened to in my whole life The Ugly Barnacles.
We're already in season 2? Aaah, I'm excited. I wonder if I'll remember a all of these too. So far I have!
Alicia if you enjoy chili let me ask you this…do you like to add corn or brisket in your chili, because my dad (who’s from southern Texas) likes to add both along with the sides of cheese, sour cream, and Fritos
Didn't skip the intro, no code word.

"because there's racists"
D:
Hold up! Alicia straight up said, “Even on Twitter!” lol You were surprised there’s toxic people on TWITTER???? Whaaaaat???? No way! How could this have possibly happened??? 😱😱😱
3:27... Talk about subverted expectations.
So, how many episodes do y'all think Alicia has to see before she can react to Skin Theory?
You know, I find your Spongebob playlist so funny because the thumbnails are nothing but slightly different poses of your avatar laughing EXCEPT for the one featuring Nature Pants.
"I'm ugly and I'm proud!"
No amount of blocking TH-cam in my country will stop me when I want to see your reaction.

11:27 BREAKING NEWS: Twitch VTuber Murders Her Entire Chat Within Seconds
As long as we're talking cartoons, why not some modern ones?
Like Bluey?
Or maybe some Flipnotes, from Zane Little? :3
Merry Christmas, Alicia.
Best. Story. Ever.
Merry Christmas hope you're having a wonderful Christmas Eve
Happy Holidays Alicia!
U should check out the amazing world of gumball it has a similar experience to all the chaos in spongebob
11:39 Buzz Lightyear what?
Yeah, you know how last season Patrick was a ride or die homie? well now he's an asshole but at least he's still funny
Was there for the stream, here for the algorithm.
17:36 Smash Bros players be like
AM UGLY AND AM PROUD
This is a good episode but I've been wondering is Alicia gonna go back to Adventure Time? Or did she like get copywrite striked on it?
Can you react to robots 2005 movie please i hope you love it
You try flossing some of us cannot do it properly
Love the reactions!Comment❤

18:00 aww yea, 2/10 not bad..
Weve seen her face before shes literally white what da heck lol
I was thinking could Alicia react to The suicide squad movie that’s the 2020 ish movie and we have a character named Rat catcher
