subbed and liked!! really loving your "run along" videos. do you tend to meter for the shadows or just center-weight the meter? i find my highlights overly blownout when i meter for the shadows (rating portra 800 at 400), and have tried a few rolls that did not give very nice highlight rolloffs even after post processing, so am looking for some advice if you'd give it :) also, can't seem to get those nice portra pastel pinkish colours. greens are always too green. wondering if it's a scanning issue or my lens (a leica 35mm f2 asph, on a leica m6 classic). finally, what is the "joe greer technique" mentioned at 6:05? thanks in advance!
Thanks mate! I tend to meter always for the shadows. I do this by metering for the ground or shadow parts in the image. But also like to measure the light from my hand, like you said the “Joe Greer” way haha. I think you have some issues with scanning, because I have overexposed Portra 800 for 6 stops and still didn’t blow out the highlights. How are you scanning your negatives? It’s not your camera and lens setup for sure.
@@TIPSinc01 thanks so much! I'm not sure how they are scanning but I'll check it out for sure. I was worried it was my camera or light meter but both seem to work fine and you confirmed it!
@@lioncityhyperbole no problem! You could check out this episode if you want to get into scanning yourself: th-cam.com/video/OwE-iFuMqCE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1NRjRF8iB1MFnl3-
lovely video! and awesome photos. i really hope you'll keep at it cos i would love to get to know your process and learn from you. your photography inspires me! and your cats should definitely make more cameos haha
Thank you so much! I’ll definitely will! Appreciate the kind words for sure, there will be a new video every week so stay tuned! And I’ll ask them, but they charge me too much each video. 😭
Great video man ,Porta a bit expensive for me right know. Still learning film and shooting the Cheapo filmstocks for now. Keep it up with the video’s !
Think I need a full on tutorial lol. So if you are sending a roll of 800 that you shot 1/2 at 400 and the other at 800 into a lab, do you ask to push or pull? Or do you just have them develop at 800?
Haha no problem! Just let them develop as normal. So as 800 in this case. This way the shots that you rated at 400 stay overexposed and the shots that you rated at 800 stay normal exposed. 🙏🏼
Great stuff! Your exposures are always spot-on! Do you adjust the shutter/aperture on every photo or just use a different combo for sunny shots / shade shots and roll with it? Keep up the vids!
Thanks man! Appreciate the comment! Uhm.. if I have the time to adjust I will. But when shooting fast, more street work, I stick to a couple of combos with an occasional metering for skin tones. ✌🏼
Why should I shoot it? Because I just got a roll, out of curiosity! :) The film looks good, I never used it before so this video example came in handy at the right time.

Would you recommend for a point and shoot camera w no shutter settings
I’ve only really used the Canon Prima Zoom 85N lately!

This, for me, proves that a good shot has nothing to do with a how expensive your camera is. Thanks for the upload.
It never does! You’re welcome mate ✌🏼
Awesome video. Good tip changing the meter between day and afternoon. I guess you develop it as normal, correct?
Thanks! Yes just developed at box speed!
Great video man ,Porta a bit expensive for me right know. Still learning film and shooting the Cheapo filmstocks for now. Keep it up with the video’s !
Thanks mate! Yeah it’s pricey! But there are definitely some cheaper stocks that are great as well! Keep on shooting!
when you shoot it at 400 instead of 800 do you also let them know in development? or do u develop at box?
Just develop as box speed!

Do you switch ISO from 400 to 800 mid roll?
Yes I do this a lot!
@@TIPSinc01doesn’t this mean that a portion of the roll will not be exposed properly?
@ depends if you push or pull the roll. In my case I like to over expose my color film. So that means nothing in development will change.
love this. was this rated at box speed?
Thank Jan! No this was rated at 400!
Rated at 400 but developed for box speed?

That’s the only reason you need! Happy that this video cam in handy for you. Have fun shooting that roll ✌🏼
get auf haha.... Love your video's Bro!
Haha thanks bro ❤️🙏🏼
nice, what lens did you use for your photos?
Thanks! I shoot with the voigtlander ultron 35mm
Do you push or pull it?
No almost never!
@@TIPSinc01 how do you achieve this kinda look?
Uhm, think by exposing it a stop over and the way I’m scanning these do a lot.
@@TIPSinc01 scanning yourself? what would you recommend?
Yes! I would recommend DSLR scanning for sure.
Man, I thought you were going to take the camera on the water ride and told the screen “oh sh1t”! Probably wise you didn’t.
Haha, I could’ve brought my point and shoot on it though. Next time!
Totally worth the price. Hurts a little to pay $16 for it tho 🙃
Yeah it hurts. But the results make up for it 😁
8:38 Amazing framing
Thank you so much mate! 🙏🏼
What you mean why.. I’ll tellllll you why because it’s way better than portra 400
Haha! That’s enough reason for me 😏
@@TIPSinc01 hell yeah!
10:18 is so cool.
Thanks! My older brother (The father) is also loving that picture a lot! 🙏🏼
